  1. I sensed that Kessel would be a better fit in the gophers system and would be more excited to play an up tempo game, rather than the clutch/grab/hold style the Badgers play.

  2. He's got one of the most rare natural talents.  A goal scorer.

He has scored goals at every level he has played at. I seem to laugh every time Woog talked about him, because he always mentioned that Brandon's knock is he can't skate. I'll take him "not being able to skate" and scoring goals like he does anyday.

  3. I29 was not that bad.  I drove home after the hockey game on Sunday and averaged 60 mph, would have been faster but there were some people going real slow.  If the road conditions from Fargo to GF were a deterent then it only kept the casual fans away, those that go to socialize...unless people were worried it would was going to be a lot worse than it was.  Not sure why the crowd was so quiet other than it was a relatively boring game for long streches.

Well you might not have had a problem, but obviously some people did, at least according to this story in the Herald.

  4. I bet there will be less of a waiting list for Season tickets in years to come. Also I wonder if they will keep making people pay 1000.00 for lower bowl tickets.

I've wondered the same thing Goon. Asking for 1000 bucks will be tough in the down years and not quite sure they are going to get it then.

  5. was it wrong of me to walk into the state high school hockey tournament championship game on saturday night and wish that the college team i love had the same kind of fan support.  even though the upper deck was empty, during the game you weren't able to carry on a conversation.  I LOVE THAT.  I was dissapointed with the fans also on sunday afternoon.  I understand the reasons but if you stick 10000 people in an area that size, it should be loud.  I coulda carried on a convo with someone three sections over and had the attention of everyone within said sections. :silly:

It is really tough to make that comparison. A championship high school hockey game has a lot of excitement, especially when its between the two home town schools. You have a lot of fans on both sides, where as a home hockey game usually has a good majority of the fans cheering for only one of the teams.

  6. It may be the opposite in Grand Forks and Grafton but for the rest of Eastern ND basketball is more important then hockey. And yes the state hockey tourney belongs in the GF moving it to Bismarck would be a terrible idea. Why would you want to move the hockey tourney out of one of the best hockey cities and venues in the country? Regardless of whether the west ever gets good, the state tourney belongs in GF. The state football tourney however doesn't and I'm glad it's finally returning to it's rightful home in Fargo, GF couldn't support it just like how Bismarck would never be able to support the state hockey tourney like GF does.

Is Fargo a football city or a basketball city? You said they were both.

  7. Jan Brady State University. It's a "Brady Bunch" reference to Jan Brady (SCSU) who -- as I understand it -- was forever jealous of her sister Marcia Brady (Minnesota). I never watched the "Brady Bunch." If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me.

That is exactly what it means PCM.

  8. I guess the broad point I'm trying to make is that (many) Sioux fans are often more deserving of the "fairweather" label than the "diehard" label.

I think you are preaching to the choir on this one, because a very good majority of fans who frequent this message board would be labeled "diehard".

  9. I'll toss out a few more reasons why the house wasn't packed on Sunday. The Sioux are at .500 in the WCHA, not far above .500 in their overall record, out of contention for the league title and on the bubble to make the NCAA playoffs. On top of that, the Sioux have no viable Hobey Baker candidtate, the team hasn't been lighting up the scoreboard and it can often be very frustrating to watch.

The way this season has gone, I'm not surprised by a drop in attendance.

    well said PCM

I just pointed to some reasons why the building might not have been full, not saying that is why for sure, just speculating.

I know a group of about 20 individuals who didn't make the trip in from Fargo, because the roads were so bad. According to the Herald, there were quite a few accidents on the highways around the area yesterday.

  11. The Saturday afternoon UND/Wisc game was packed, 11,500 official attendance.  Sunday, however, the attendance dropped to 10,500.  1000 empty seats for a game with the hated Badgers, what gives?

First of all, it was a sunday afternoon game.

Second, the participants and fans of the state high school hockey tourney the days before, really boosted saturday's attendance.

Third, the weather and roads were really bad.

Wow, that is all I can say about your post. Sounds like you are a little bitter about South losing in the semifinals. What is kind of funny is you have been saying all along that South would win the title and the Grand Forks dominance was over, well guess what, South is not going to win the title this year. I do not have a dog in this fight at all, but you call some Grand Forks people "elitists" for gloating about their programs, but your post does just as much gloating and bragging as anyone's posts on here.

So let me take a guess, your kid plays for the Flyers?

Your quote of "what I've seen with my own eyes the kids who play hockey in the Fargo youth program are superior players to the kids who play in the GF youth program", is kind of amusing. You are the kind of hockey parent that is killing youth hockey and giving it a bad name. Let the kids play and quite judging them at such an early stage in their hockey career. Fargo has a great youth hockey program, but that is still a long ways away from high school hockey.
