  1. WDAZ shoots on M2 film.  There are less than 10 stations in the country who use m2.  it's a very low quality of tape.  kvly and kxjb currently shoot on dvc-pro which is digital.  i don't know about fox sports, but i can say they most likely use dvc-pro.  it's the highest quality tape on the market that most stations can afford.  wday/wdaz can definitely afford to move up to dvc-pro, its just the matter of do you want to spend a ton of money to convert now, when you're going to have to convert to all-digital in a couple years.

it's not just wdaz that has cut it sports to 2 minutes.  with sports center, the only sports information a majority of the world cares about is local stuff.  it's kinda hard to find 5+ minutes of local stuff everyday to keep that time filled.  high school, college and twins games are what you'll get at wdaz.  if you want highlights from the nba finals, you'll go to espn, just like everyone else.

Thanks for the info, I have been wondering for some time if I was the only one who thought WDAZ's sports footage was terrible, glad to know I am not. Thanks again

  2. There are many other problems with the Cityscapes proposal that should kill it: parking is a huge deficiency; as is traffic flow into and out of downtown if they ever did sell out 7500 seats.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

What I can't get over is how the backers of the proposal have been on tv and radio, and have been quoted in the paper saying that parking isn't that big of a problem in downtown Fargo and that is a big misconception they are trying to get over.

What world are these people living in anyways?

  3. There needs to be a lot of sports information in the Herald since WDAZ doesn't give much time to sports.  :glare:

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I think WDAZ's sports is about 2 minutes long each night. Another thing to point out, has anyone else noticed how low of quality the game footage is that is shot by WDAZ cameras. I'm talking about highlights from local basketball/hockey/football games. You turn it to KVLY and even Fox's sports, and their footage is a lot brighter, more colorful, and just a lot more eye friendly. Are they using cameras from the 1950's?

  4. I think it will be great for Rich to get that record but I'm sure that's not a reason for him to stay/go.  I hope they have a great season this year and Rich gets recognition for it!  I'm just so sick of all these people saying, Rich has to go, it's the same people who were saying Hakstol has to go half-way through the season this year.  Some people think they need to be way too involved in the athletic dept.  I'm surprised there weren't a lot of resumes sent in for the A.D. position from people on siouxsports.com, as many seem to be qualified to make all the decisions facing the position.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

The beauty of siouxsports is it is a place for people to come and openly express their opinions.

I'm definitely not qualified to become the AD, but does that mean I can't express my opinion on subjects regarding the basketball or hockey programs? If that is the case, than I guess only a couple people will be allowed to post on this board.

  5. I am excited to see Marto play. After watching him play a bunch of games over his career, he has the ability to rush end to end with the puck and make people look foolish along the way. Obviously he played against weaker opponents, but that does not mean he won't be able to make it with the sioux. He obviously can play the game if North Dakota, Minnesota Duluth and U of Minnesota were all interested in him.

  6. I just heard last night that the people sitting next to me may not want to renew their tickets for the coming year.  I may be able to put you in touch with them and you could work out a deal with them where they would renew and you buy the tickets from them.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Be careful, I wouldn't want to get caught doing that.

  7. Right. I was strictly talking as college players.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Ok, I see your point now. It is nice to be able to have these kind of arguments, shows we have had some good players wear the Sioux jersey the last couple of years.

  8. If I'm not mistaken the future REA Manager talked at the Fan Appreciation night last Monday.  I don't recall what his name was, but I do remember him speaking. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong on this because I already thought they hired somebody.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I haven't seen or heard anything about this yet.

  9. Ohh, I find it so cuTe that CRR replied to my/our message but quickly deleted it!  Yeah I saw it....Why did you delete it (not you Monster but CRR):D?

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

    Very mature statement

I deleted it, because when I realize I had written something that was out of haste, I thought it would be better to just delete it. Is that a good enough reason?

  10. I'm not ripping Zajac.  I love the guy.  Every time he touches the puck I think something special can happen.  But it's no accident Parise put up 60+ points his freshman year and Zajac just under 40.  I don't think Zajac is way less of a player than  Parise was, but yes, I think Parise had a bigger impact on the college game than Zajac has, so far.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I agree with you, but that doesn't mean Zach is going to be a "better" player than Zajac in the pros.

It was the way "siouxtatoo42" made it seem that Zach was and is head and shoulders a better player than Travis. It is too tough to compare them right now.

  11. Aye

    lol

I agree Sicatoka, that would be nice to alieviate some of the headaches of leaving the Alerus Center. There is no reason why people should have to wait 45 minutes to leave a parking lot when there is only 10,000 people attending the event.

  12. I really don't care about spending another 4-5 bucks at an event, but with the already hideous traffic flow, can you imagine getting in the lot with every car having to stop and pay?  IMO, this will only add to the congestion when you have people making change, searching the seat cushions for loose change, etc.

    What's your opinion?

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Paying a couple bucks to park doesn't bother me, because I can see that is definitely going to happen sometime soon. What bothers me is they don't have enough spaces right now when they have big events and that will only get worse, if and when they build the Canad Inn. Where are people going to park once that building project starts? Why don't they pave more of the open areas surrounding the arena? I know the answer to that is cost, but parking in a "field" when its raining isn't exactly going to attract people to come out to the Alerus to attend an event. I heard Mac Talk yesterday and they talked specifically about this issue. The points were raised that they didn't charge a parking fee to begin with, because they included that fee in the facility charge that gets tacked on to each ticket. They figured they could raise more money that way. So what happens now? They charge for parking per vehicle and per ticket, so you get hit twice with the fee?

  13. Standard equipment is pretty much a must in any sport, sorry to say.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

That is exactly what we are talking about here, whether or not a shield or a mask should be considered "standard" equipment in the NHL/AHL and therefore the players should be forced to wear one or the other.

"Sorry to say", it is not considered standard equipment at this time.

  14. I guess my take on the whole thing is this: I believe it should always be the player's choice in professional hockey if they want to wear a mask, shield, half shield, etc. I'm glad that college along with other leagues have made full face masks/shields mandatory.

If the player chooses to play without the shield, than they take the risk of being injured.

It was interesting to hear Nick's Dad on the radio this morning with Mike McNamara.

    Get well soon Nick.

  15. and also they didn't do any cheers with swearing.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

The atmosphere during Canada's game was great and a lot of fun, but you must not have been sitting in the section I was. I'm not saying the whole arena were swearing during their cheers, but there were a few cheers from out section with about 50-100 people were they were swearing.

  16. So much for Barry Melrose's prediction that Sertich and Sterling would split the vote, enabling Cornell's David McKee to win it.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

For some reason, I knew Melrose would say that yesterday and last night.

congrats to Sertich on a great year.
