  1. What I haven't really seen anyone talk about is the effect the new obstruction crackdown could have on these games.  Maine is supposedly this defensive power, but how clean do those defensemen play?  Looking over their box score with VT, I see about 7 penalties that I would classify as obstruction-related.  If the Sioux can apply more offensive pressure than VT did, frustration could lead to an increase in that.

Don't get me wrong, penalties could be even making for a really boring game, or ND's big defensemen could end up on the wrong side of too many obstruction penalties.  Regardless, it's not out of the question for 25+% of each game to spent on powerplay, which could certainly affect the outcome.

There was 64 PIM in the Notre Dame-UMD game. There were 24 powerplays in the Denver-Windsor ex. game. I think there was close to that in the UND-Manitoba game. I expect a slow, penalty filled game.

  2. So, from these comments, I have the lines:

    Stafford - Zajac - Massen

    Porter - Murray - Genoway

    Prpich - McMahon - Kaip

    Fabian - Fylling - Spirko

    Does that sound right?

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

    Those lines look pretty good.

    P.S. Thanks, kr.

  3. This "Penalty Box" bar in GF, how big is it?  I hear they will have the game for a nominal fee on Friday.  I don't live in GF, I will be there for this weekend though, that is why I am wondering where to watch the game there.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I believe it is $7. There will also be a volleyball game at the Betty and the women's hockey game going on at the same time of the UND-Maine game.

  4. Moreland gets no respect, no respect

    RIP Rodney D.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Oh yeah. They forgot to announce Jake Moreland (who aparently is on the team, wearing #5 with no name on the jersey). They announced him as an afterthought about 2 minutes after everybody else was announced.

  5. Give us some information about the Meet the Sioux!! Who won the scrimmage, who scored, who looked good and bad!!!

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

People will have to help me out, I don't remember everything.

-The White team won 5 or 6 to 0.

-Rylan Kaip scored. McMahon went into the net a got the puck for him. :D

-Kaip skated with McMahon and Prpich quite a bit.

-Zajac and Stafford were kept together most of the night, and both looked good.

-Murray, Spirko and Porter were kept together most of the night.

-Foyt had the only penalty. It was called by the other ref, who I didn't catch his name.

-Radke still looked a little out of place.

I will try to remember more, but I'm sure others will help. (schmidtdoggydog, jloos, driscol)

  6. Excuse my ignorance but where exactly is the Penalty Box?  Is this just the bar at the end of the REA?

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

That is what they are calling "the bar" that is in the Olympic arena.

    September 27, 2004

Starting this hockey season, there will be a new penalty box at the Ralph Engelstad Arena.

The general public will not be allowed in the club lounges that overlook the ice in the upper bowl. Instead REA built a new bar in the arena's Olympic Center.

Both club lounges are only open to Fighting Sioux Club members. Previously on the south bar was reserved for Fighting Sioux Club members, while the north lounge was open to ticket holders over the age of 21.

According to Jane Sykes, Ralph Engelstad Arena marketing coordinator, the decision to build the new bar was made in order to free up space in the existing bars.

The club seat owners felt that the bars were too crowded, Sykes said. She added that the decision to implement this new policy change was made by top-level Fighting Sioux Club members and REA management.

Patrons of the Penalty Box will have to watch the game on televisions, but Sykes said the Penalty Box will feature special events during the games to keep fans entertained while they are away from the action.

"There will be nightly drink specials and entertainment for the non-club members," Sykes said.

New this year are reward cards, which reward frequent drink buyers with free drinks. During games in the Penalty Box, Sykes said REA officials plan on having prize giveaways and drawings.

Cheerleaders for the Minnesota Vikings will be on hand to meet Sioux fans and sign autographs Oct. 22 during the game against Minnesota, Sykes said.

Sykes added that non-members of the Fighting Sioux Club will still be able to enter the bars at the north and south ends of the arena, but they will have to rely on guest passes that will be available for club members to use.

Sykes said the first guest pass will be free for club members, but additional passes are obtainable for a price.

  7. Quote:

By next week, I may be the only person in New Jersey wearing a Sioux jersey

Actually, I assume there are quite a few Sioux fans out in Jersey.  They have drafted from UND frequently.  David Hale has played a few years for them.  Zach Parise is being hailed as the next big thing and is beginning his career in Albany, their farm team, and UND incoming Freshman Travis Zajac was their first round draft pick this year.  It would be great for another person out there to buy a Sioux jersey.  Siouxshop.com has lots of merchandise.

Mike Commodore and James Massen were also drafted by NJ. (I am still probably missing some).
