  1. I know the Sioux are still doing a slow boil after the SF debacle, but now I have a double ulcer. We just learned tonight that our backup QB Steven Sheffield had a 'procedure' done on his foot to repair an injury received during Saturday's win over Nebraska and will be out at least 2-3 weeks. Original starting QB Taylor Potts was in uniform on the sidelines Saturday but it is unclear whether doctors have cleared him for full contact play after the concussion he received 2 weeks ago. Until this season, Tech had never had a QB miss a game due to injury since Mike Leach was hired in 2000. Third string QB Seth Doege was highly recruited but has not started a game since he was a sophomore in high school. He missed his junior and senior years due to, you guessed it, injury. Doege played two series in the 4th quarter of the Kansas State game and led the team to a TD. Frankly, I don't know who is behind Doege on the roster. I know we have a couple of highly ranked freshmen who are being red-shirted this year. The good news is that our next game is against Texas A&M this Saturday in Lubbock. A&M started the season strong but lost 62-14 to Kansas State last week. That's the same Kansas State that Tech beat 66-14 the week before. The following week we host #24 Kansas. Then we have a bye week before games against #14 Oklahoma State and #25 OU. %&##* Just when things were looking up. And we just jumped into the top 25.
  2. All I can say is that sometimes this sh*% happens. Sometimes the kids don't have their heads screwed on right for a game and they get embarrassed by somebody they should have beat. If there was an easy fix for it, it would never happen. How do you think Ohio St feels about losing to Purdue yesterday? Or remember Appalachian St over Michigan last year? It happens to the best teams out there. That's not to say it's acceptable. I'd venture a guess that as long as any of yesterday's players are on the team, they'll make sure among themselves that it won't happen again. This is the kind of thing that will test a team's character. Some never get over it and the season is basically shot. But some teams learn from it and do their best to get better every game afterward - for personal pride if nothing else. With the way this team has fought and won against teams that should have beat them (remember last week?), my guess is that they will prove to be the second kind.
  3. Mixed emotions here. Bummed at how the Sioux played, but Tech is up 24-3 at half.
  4. I must've jinxed by talking about how this might be a trap game. We came out flat and they are bringing their best game.
  5. Tech 14 Nebr 0 4:52 1st Final OU 16-13 over UT
  6. from the Big 12: OU 16 UT 13 late 4th TTU 7 Neb 0 early
  7. Great pickup! Nice to see you guys getting your future growth lined up. A good coach can get the most out of the kids he gets and looks like your coach is doing fine. You can never tell how good those 2-star guys can really be. We had one named Michael Crabtree who was a 2-star QB in high school. You may have seen him in that Texas game last year. The only WR to ever win two Belitnekoff (sp?) Awards. In fact, until this last recruiting class, our whole team was made up almost entirely of 2-stars and less. Come to think of it, our current place kicker came out of the stands, our punter was a walk-on (Russell Erxleben's son if you're old enough to remember the Texas All-American kicker), and our 'replacement' QB was also a walk-on. Threw for 490 yards and 7 TDs in his first start last week against Kansas State. Sometimes I question the value of the HS ratings.
  8. That's one thing we don't have to worry about down here - hockey games drawing away football fans. Football is the only show in town (not that that's necessarily a good thing, it's just our reality). I've been impressed with the Sioux's ball-hawking and taking advantage of almost every break this year. If they weren't playing with that intensity, no telling what their record would be. Sounds like USF may offer some chances at more turnovers. Talking about fan dedication..... In Lincoln (where we play this week), Nebraska has sold out their stadium every game for THIRTY YEARS. I don't know what that stadium holds, but it's got to be in the 70-80,000 category. That is an amazing record. I hope we jump on them early to quiet that crowd. Here's hoping we both quiet some crowds this week. GO SIOUX GO RED RAIDERS GUNS UP!!
  9. It took half the season, but my Red Raiders finally put together a complete game tonight. 66-14 over Kansas St. Tech started the 2nd sring QB (maybe not for long) who threw 7 TD passes before they put in the 3rd string offense. 740 yards of total offense. It's about time. We have a tough stretch ahead with 4 ranked teams in the last 6 games: @ Nebraska Kansas A&M @ Okla St OU @ Baylor (JerryWorld in Dallas) I've got tickets to all but OSU and Nebraska, so I'll be MIA on some of the UND game days.
  10. Good game, overall. The defense won the game with the INTs. Hope Sutton isn't banged up too bad. Game over.
  11. That was a big stop. Just need to eat some clock now.
  12. Ints are keeping us in the game. But I'm not complaining.
  13. Turning into a defensive battle.

Two game day threads going at once here, guys. I get confused easily enough as it is.
