  1. YAY! My Wings won it, but not before Jiri "Bad Timing" Hudler nearly does it again. Oh well, he has all off season now to worry about how he's going to right that ship. 3 of the 4 final goals of the game were 5 hole. Sorry, but to me, 5 hole goals are just flat out weak. Fleury was amazing regardless though. He kept the series alive for the Penguins. Now, will he bounce back next year or will he pull a Cam Ward? I'm happy for Dallas Drake who finally won his first cup after 16 years in the Pros. I almost think the Con Smythe should have been shared between Zetterberg and Fleury. Really, Zetterberg won it for the Wings and Fleury kept it alive for the Pens. What a great series.
  2. That's my thoughts too. Despite the refs that made the call being out of position, the first GI was clearly interference. I am surprised they called it because it was a potentially stanley cup clinching game and it was OT. A lot of crap was being let go. The second call was indeed horrific. It wasn't interference. I don't think Fleury flopped (I should know. I watched Hasek turn it into an art form), but I think he had to have done something to embellish. How else could that have been called? Tonight's game will be interesting. As a Wings fan, I expect it will be close, but not good for us.
  3. As a Jew, I'm shamed to admit the ADL as representative of my culture. They are exactly like the NA activists. They want to dictate policy wherever they can on the basis of shaming or guilting their way out of people who have better and more important things to do. I've been solicited by them in the past and I assure you I have not, nor will I ever, contribute to their cause. They are too over the top or too "Us vs. THEM" to be truly effective.... where have I heard that perspective before? GrahamKracker? Jesse Jackson? Al Sharpton? Louis Pharakhan? Hmmm....
  4. Nope. Wings will eventually prevail. Pittsburgh will blame the entire affair on Malkin. In Detroit news: Hudler will again do something stupid that may put the remainder of the series in jeopardy for the Wings. Zetterberg will once again be heads and tails better than EVERYONE (teammates included) on the ice. Seriously.... Zetterberg was IIRC a 6th or 7th round draft pick. Where the hell were the European scouts on this one? I can't believe that scouting analysis could have put him lower than mid first round. The dude's amazing. Toews is amazing for Chicago, and I hope he turns into the Hawks' version of Zetterberg. Dastyuk can be more flashy, but Zetterberg is the best at both ends of the ice. And yes, Zetterberg is better than Sid the Kid, imo. He's definitely better than Malkin.
  5. Listened to and watched most of the third period and OTs (was driving to the Twin Cities). In case anyone wonders why it is important to play 60 full minutes of hockey, Detroit now knows. They played a pretty good 59:20. They then played 2 really good OTs. Jiri Hudler shouldn't play Game 6. Sorry. There was ZERO reason to take that penalty. It was ridiculously stupid of him. Zetterberg's goaltender interference in the first OT was just Henri being overagressive and stupid. Thank God we survived. The second goaltender interference was hogwash. In any case, when Talbot (IIRC) scored with 34 seconds left in regulation, I was very sure the Pens would win the game. I just didn't think it would be in the 3rd OT. Now, back to Pittsburgh with momentum in Pittsburgh's favor. I would not be surprised to see this go to Game 7.
  6. Dude, where's my car?
  7. What do you know... a venue that keeps alcohol consumption to a minimum. That way, less jerks and idiots abound. Self-moderation abounds. Sounds like a great venue to me.
  8. Now that this mystery has been solved, here are a few mysteries I'd like to know: Where's Waldo? Where's the Beef? Who is buried in Grant's tomb? Where's Nemo? Where in the world is Carmen San Diego? Where, oh where, has my little dog gone?
  9. Fighting Sioux and Red Wing hockey.... PRICELESS.
  10. Beats watching boring-assed basketball like nobody's business.
  11. It sounds much better when spoken from that perspective. SCSU Athletics: Takin' what they can get for the past 20+ years.
  12. What's wrong with Boise State?
  13. Bring back BLUE ICE!!!!
  14. Let me sum up what I've taken from this thread thus far: 1. Wheeler is a bust. 2. It is Lucia's fault. 3. Wheeler messed with the Yotes and the Yotes messed with Wheeler and Wheeler walked. WTF? Set aside the irrational hatred. We're nothing better than happy when it comes to this crap! Wheeler's situation is baffling. He got the rookie max but didn't feel like Phoenix would let him play in the NHL right away. Seems selfish, but it is Phoenix's fault ultimately because they spent the last 3 years or more convincing him that he's got that kind of talent. It was only Gretzky who saw it that way. Everyone else (I was one of the loudest detractors of Wayne's selection of Wheeler here on SS.com, but certainly not the only) knows he's late 1st round talent and STILL IS. He's got great size and the flexibility to play wing and center. He'll make it somewhere, but not in Phoenix... maybe. I'm not sure what the rule is on this, but can't Phoenix still sign him? They may not, but couldn't they? In any case, if this thread is going to be yet another venue for Gopher bashing, then we mustn't be surprised when the red X appears and the word "Closed" replaces the "Reply" button.
  15. Here is the history of the swastika in simplified form. It was basically a good luck and/or religious symbol for all but the last 69 years or so. In fact, in SE Asia, it still is used as such, according to my friends who either have relatives there or have visited that part of the world.
  16. Bettman keeps getting more and more retarded. First off, Wrigley is a beautiful baseball field, but I wouldn't want to ruin the old stadium by putting up hockey there. Secondly, Soldier Field would be a better idea... Or maybe Comiskey (Yeah, I refuse to call it U.S. Cellular). Thirdly, I think it would be better if it already wasn't a big rivalry. Make it Pittsburgh (Crosby and Malkin) vs. Chicago (Toews and Co.).
  17. He went through the CHL. However, I heard his name. I can't remember exactly why his name is so recognizable to me other than the fact that he did score the game tying goal to send Canada to OT vs. the US and made Toews famous (and probably drove the coffin into the self-confidence of Frazee). A tragic loss. Seriously, this guy would have played as a regular in the NHL next season. According to mwade on USCHO (Sorry no link) he had the bike only about 2 days.
  18. That would be awesome. Just awesome. An underachieving top 10 draft pick going to an overachieving (at least during the regular season) NHL organization. And just for clarification: Seems I was right all along. Gretzky was an idiot to waste a top 5 pick on this guy. I have no problem with him drafting Wheeler, but he should have traded down and gotten the extra pick that year. That way he would have another pick that may be approaching NHL ready to compensate for Wheeler taking a walk. Now he gets a compensatory pick that, at best, is 3 years away from competing for the NHL. Was Wheeler Gretzky's first pick as GM? If so, that could explain the pick. Simply evaluating good talent too high.

    CHL

The WHL won't be tempting Clarke at all. The QMJHL will. They receive a compensation package of some kind that they can use towards a college education if they desire. They have the ability to hire an agent. They can be signed by the NHL team that drafts them and not lose eligibility provided they aren't over 21. Really, the main temptation besides compensation lies in academics. NCAA hockey players have to balance academics with athletics or they lose eligibility. MJ players may still have academics to worry about, but I've yet to see evidence that not doing well in college affects MJ eligibility in the slightest.
  20. He wants to be Lucia's secretary?

    CHL

Right now, they're even. Both seasons are over.
  22. Yup. Definitely a good choice on their part. Actually, I think he was a better hire for Minny than Hill.
  23. ZOD is a troll. Not sure whether he's a fan of the Gophers or just someone trying to get a rise out of people. Just ignore him. He won't do anything or post anything unless he feels that there is a put down he can slip in there. No big deal. Move on. I really think Chorney's not around because of the injury. This may help us out. The Oilers went on record last year saying that there is nothing college can do to improve him any more than he already has, but with the injury, perhaps the Oilers will allow him to recover at UND?
  24. Who cares about the votes unless what people the rumors and the way society is on the reservations is totally bunk. If activist groups really are into bullying and pressuring the masses in such a way as to make the masses believe that voting to support the nickname would be to throw away their heritage, how valid is the vote? It can't hurt to wait for the vote to be cast, but expecting anything other than what we already know would be foolish. In my (apparently racist) opinion, the US Government isn't the only bully the NA people face.... the Tribal Council and NA activists do their share as well.
