Right. It appears to me that we still have all the tools, it is just getting those tools to show up at the right times that is our main issue. Inconsistency is the BIGGEST problem our team has right now. Inconsistency is a STRONG indicator of youth. We have 9 freshmen in the lineup on any given night at least. That's more than any other team in the WCHA with the possible exception of UMD. It may be more than any other team in DI that isn't called RIT.

No, but I really think that we do talk about Kessel too much. It really is kessel.com around here sometimes. I think we have better things to talk about than what he is doing.
-
We should hear about it within a week after he commits somewhere.
-
No, actually, I think Kessel is better that Daigle.

As negative as my attitude has been lately (especially during games), I'm still on board. My preseason expectations are still plausible right now. I knew coming into the season that a top 3 finish in the WCHA was out of the question. I also couldn't expect another trip to the Frozen Four (we'll see about this one, but I'm not expecting it that's for sure). With all the adversity the Sioux are facing this year with youth and inconsistency, I only want the Sioux to make the NCAA tourney. Whether they are one and done in the tourney or are able to go all the way makes no difference. I really think it is important to make our own regional. And that's it for my expectations. I agree with brianvf- Our defense has performed MUCH better than I thought it would preseason. Our goaltending was as strong as ever. IMO, I knew Phil was a good goaltender but I guess I feel he's better this year than last year. Jordy has taken his game to another level too. I just don't understand why our offense is so sporatic and inconsistent. Well, our road ahead is a lot more difficult with the sweep at the hands of the Huskies, but it isn't an impossible road.

YAY LADIES!!!!!!!

A good point. Alexandre Daigle was supposed to be the next Wayne Gretzky and he hasn't done badly but not nearly matched to the hype. Right now, the next "Golden One" is being outscored by a Russian phenom (AO is the real deal, btw). So I see your point. What I MEANT to say is that Chorney's playing style, if it matures correctly and develops adequately, could resemble Lidstrom's current style. There's always risk that it won't pan out, but that's reality.

As much as I dislike shep's negative attitude (and how negative my attitude has become as of late), I will disagree wholeheartedly with this. Goaltending wasn't the issue, like shep said. I think the best scenario is that we have BOTH goaltenders playing well. The fact is, neither goaltenders are bad, but neither are game stealers either. Goephert is a game stealing goaltender (heh, with the way he is playing it's conceivable that he might be signed by the craptacular Rangers after the season). That being said, it falls on OFFENSE to give the Win column a boost. You have to realize that the Sioux were outscored 4-2 this weekend. 4 to 2 isn't a bad margin, even if it is a pair of losses. This doesn't say that defense was the problem. It doesn't say that goaltending was the problem. It says that OFFENSE was the problem. As I look at the stat sheet, Oshie and Toews scored for the Sioux this weekend. Notice something? Yeah, both are freshmen. Where was the upper classmen? Why did Stafford and Zajac and Porter and Fabian (even though he's not a true scoring forward) take the night off? As far as I'm concerned, I can't hold Smaby accountable for this, he's not known for offense. I think the Sioux played ok this weekend but SCSU played better than ok and still only managed to score 2 goals a game against us. One final point: If we relied on only ONE goaltender season in and season out, what do you think we'd end up being if that goaltender got injured? If you want an answer, look at UW right now. Any questions?

It's going to be odd of me to say this, but this year, it's the AR's who lack quality. Last year it was the head officials. Does this mean the overall quality of head refs are improving? Or are the ARs regressing? I don't know, but I don't remember so many bad calls by ARs in the past as done this season. Oh well... Maybe they are getting confused. I know a number of ARs are head refs in high school (Ludwig), women's hockey (Eslinger), and other places.

I think this is great! Next we'll give trophies for just making the tourney in the first place. And since every team will make the tourney, everyone gets a trophy so EVERYONE is a winner! And besides, it's not winning or losing that counts, it's how many ribbons and stickers you can get in your collegiate career! Please. There are going to be winners and losers anywhere you look. If you can't handle that, then I HIGHLY suggest you drop out of competitive activities.

No, I agree with Sioux Yeah Yeah on this one. You have to realize one thing: Only ONE person for the Badgers is out of the game involuntarily, and that is Elliot. If a team is as good as their record infers, then this shouldn't stop the Badgers. They are failing MISERABLY at the first sign of adversity. Yeah, Elliot is their #1 goaltender and their #2 is a freshman, but still, their offensive and defensive makeup is UNCHANGED otherwise. Really, there's no excuse for getting swept by Denver and, though the jury is still out for tommorrow, if UW is swept this weekend, they are basically out of contention for #1 and no longer a favorite in anything.

Lameroux? Wait a minute.... When did Phil moonlight as an NHL head coach? Me thinks you mean Lamoriello.
-
This isn't flattering to say but Goephert didn't look as good as he did the last time we played him. He was leaving rebounds ALL OVER THE PLACE!!! Yeah, passing was terrible all night long but seriously, we should have won that game. Passing drills up the ying yang. I'd've done it tonight. Wait until the crowd has gone and then ran them for an hour or two then sent the team home to rest. But I'm not Hakstol (thank god or the Sioux would probably be 0 and forever)

Keys to the loss: 1. Whiffs. We couldn't settle the puck down in deep all game long. 2. Pressuring late in the third. We lost momentum and it stayed away. 3. Bad luck. I don't know what else to call those two goals for SCSU.
-
5 seconds left. SCSU is going to win this game. Wow.
-
Wow......... Twins fest is happening tommorrow! A full amount of GET THE HELL BACK TO THE GAME going on here.
-
Anyone have better luck? Some putz is telling the forecast.

Lost radio coverage
-
Confusion is starting to set in. We're sounding (listening on the radio) lost out there on the ice. 3 minutes left. Crunch time.
-
No, I don't blame Lammy or even Chorney. I think we need to get something going. NOW. And we need to keep it going.
-
SCSU Scores. 2-1 I think that's a death knell. We don't have 2.5 periods to score another one.
-
Wow that was a freshman mistake by Lee.... thank Parise for the net and Zajac.
-
I don't care if the player is 44 years old, SCORE dang it!
-
Whew. Now, let's get something going.
