When I see some played I'll comment on it.

    I will be happy with progress. Like if a 3rd and 17 isn't a 50/50 proposition.

  2. Fact of Life--Kids develop and reach their potential at different rates.

I know of many players who while their game wasn't mature yet, they made mature decisions and did not let ego get in the way of the big picture.

for example sometimes it means choosing a team in the NAHL even though you had earned a spot in the USHL...spot as 6 or 7th d-man vs. top pair defenseman on #1 penalty kill and power play unit....which is better for your development?

Thoughts of Mussman give me PTSD.

I remember being at a Booster meeting in Fargo and he was talking about the new NCAA rules regarding the play clock and when the game clock stops and starts and him talking about their being less plays in football games now so he was planning on a lot more no huddle and playing fast on offense and I am sitting there thinking "but Coach you haven't recruited any talent on defense in a couple years, wouldn't it make more sense to keep the offense on the field as long as possible?"

Sadly I was correct in my assessment.

I would like him to explain exactly what he saw in the 5-6 Bubba that deserved an extension and why he thinks Bubba is the leader we need given his lack of playoff success and late season meltdown last year.  What are our expectations for the football program?

Dumb move, Francis should be shown the door also.

I don't think he'll get another NHL head coaching job, but Lindy Ruff ended up in Buffalo so who knows.

Starting to sound like this was player driven.

I guess the lesson in all of this is not to overachieve early as a franchise.  Gerard Gallant gets the axe early on with Vegas after overachieving and so did the Kraken.  I would think with the lack of finishing ability, the Kraken would wait until they get some high end talent, which I thought was why they didn't go head on into free agency, because they wanted to progress like most new franchises do.   Very odd, but I have a feeling they have someone in mind they want to install.

Bylsma who is coaching their AHL team has been the talk for weeks.

Should we be surprised Schloss didn't say much about Ludvig signing an ECHL deal?

Maybe Berry could chime in on his situation?

Hah, see what I did there.

I am not sure we will be a player in the near future for NIL deals for incoming freshman and transfers but would hope we could be a in a situation where if a player is leaving for an ECHL contract, an AHL contract, or even signing his NHL/AHL ELC where all signs indicate he will be spending at least his first season in the AHL that we would be able to offer 60K or 80K to the player if we wanted him to stay.

not really sure who is the clear cut fav to replace kelly armstrong but this little snippet on becker's wiki is interesting.....

With Becker's "key issues" it would seem he would have been more of a fit running for Governor instead of wanting to join the cesspool in DC

  9. It is only starting to get interesting with regard to collectives, transfer portals, and NIL.

    Here are a few scenarios.

Big Money School, coach indicates a player they are targeting who has 3 years of eligibility left. Collective comes up with 4-500k for the athlete and he commits to school. Player comes in and averages 4 points and 1.5 rebounds a game and by end of year is losing playing time to lightly recruited walk-on. Say coach has overvalued guys in the portal a couple years in a row and the Collective has footed the bill for these "failures"....is the coaches seat hot with the alumni not happy?

Same scenario but the collective has been burned by guys coming in and grabbing the bag and then moving on to another school so since these are basically "employment contracts" they decide to structure them as 2-3 year agreements with the athletes. Coach moves on to another job or gets canned and new coach runs a different offense and brings a couple of his current players with him and does not really have a spot for the player with 2 years left on his "agreement" with the collective. Is there a buyout option?

What an NHL glorious mess last night.

PHI pulls not knowing what else was happening in league and "The Osh" scores the ENG to put WAS into playoffs.

Sanderson gets an apple on Stutzle's OT baseball swing (belt high slider) goal to knock DET out.

Being a Flyer fan I was watching and one minute things were looking pretty good and then Montreal chokes away a lead against Detroit for the second time in two days.

it was a real shame that Oshie getting the empty net goal and clinch the playoff spot for the Caps was that it made the penguins game tonight meaningless(sarcasm intended)

Anyone else hoping Oshie has coaching aspirations?

If I had to guess his initial coaching might be if any of his 4 kids under the age of 10 start playing sports. Seems like the kind of guy who will want to spend as much time with his family as possible when he is done playing.

Still say Blake took the short end.

I believe that the numbers on Blake's contract were incorrect.

Looks Like he was paid as a first rounder and burned a year on his ELC.

CAR wasn't guaranteed to lose him, they'd have still had his rights till next August correct?

He could have got the same deal or better from CAR next spring.

Basically the ONLY way I see a win here for Blake is if he gets a game in the final week in the National.

Still haven't heard anyone say anything about the knee yet either....

Speculation could say that's maybe what the CAR staff was evaluating?

Maybe the thought is get what money he can now and let the pro club outline the rehab ( if thats a concern) into next season in the American or the coast.

I would be surprised if he got a game this year. They are still jostling for their playoff position. If he is healthy though he may get time with team as their Black Aces practice team during the playoffs depending on what those rules are with regard to games played and contract.

According to cap friendly, his contract is more than reported. He doesn't have any playing/performance  bonuses built in though.

As far as NIL I think the number to keep a guy who isn't quite NHL ready would be around 80k to convince a player to stay another year as that would be equivalent to AHL salary....minus the signing bonus

Maybe Carolina didn’t like the way Blake was developing. Wanted to get him within the program to get him on track

Carolina is on a prospect signing binge right now. They did not have an AHL affilaite this season and it has hurt their depth. They need to restock the shelves which is why they are currently trying to sign all the prospects in their system as they plan on having an AHL team again next season.

"For starters, the Hurricanes currently do not have any AHL veterans signed to two-way contracts.

Last season, the Canes had 10 two-way contracts, meaning they had plenty of organizational depth.

Furthermore, of those 10 two-way players, four played in at least one game for the Hurricanes over the course of the season, with two of them - Jalen Chatfield and Stefan Noesen - becoming NHL regulars out of training camp.

The bottom line is that the lack of veteran depth will be a big hurdle that the team will surely have to face at some point during the season.

The whole point of having those AHL vets is to 1) provide some dependable culture and experience for your prospects to learn from and, most importantly, 2) have dependable players that you can call up in the case of injuries.

Without those players, your options when things start to go sideways are not promising ones."

They had 14 players on entry level contracts this season and had them scattered around the AHL, ECHL, and Europe. This is not ideal for continuity as most NHL teams and their AHL affiliates work hand in hand on the systems they use.
