  1. Since when does the regime at UND care what the public wants?

I know what you're saying, I'm just hoping since they've "ticked off" enough people (to put it lightly) they could at least step up to the plate and let us in on the process. But like you mentioned it probably won't happen. I'd prefer not to let the decision rest solely on the UND admin. Oh well, we'll see how it all shakes out, kind of thinking out loud here.

  2. It would be REALLY nice of them, if the let it go to a public vote, or at least let the public have a say in it. I remember when the FM Redhawks were first getting started in Fargo, they let the public submit ideas, and then the managers/people in charge/investors withered it down to their top 3 or 4. From there it was put to a public vote, and if I recall correctly the public vote was 100% the deciding factor in determining they would be the Redhawks.

Something similar UND could do is take submissions from the public. Let the administrators select the top 10, then have alumni (just donating alumni, maybe) take it down to 3 or 4 then put it to a vote. Vote being open to everyone. I realize there's flaws in this, but it's just an idea. Hopefully we get a say.

  3. My husband found something very similar to that at Scheel's in Bismarck. (Maybe not quite as large?) And, FYI, he was there today and said the place was NUTS. May not be much left in the Sioux section by day's end!!

I'm in Bismarck too and was thinking of heading over after work, doesn't surprise me. As anyone been able to access siouxshop.com today? I haven't been able too.

  4. Well now that he nickname is gone, like it or not we have to settle for second best. There's a reason why all the "unique" nicknames aren't taken, they suck. There will ALWAYS be SOMETHING to make fun of with ANY nickname. The sooner people get over that the better. Not trying to stir the pot, just trying say, that nothing beats the Fighting Sioux, so be prepared for a possible nickname that isn't all that and a bag of chips.

  5. To be honest, it was an uphill battle the whole way. The nickname was doomed from the get go by the so called "authorities" on the subject. They played our game knowing damn well the whole time they would retire it. By the end it wasn't about what's right and what's wrong, what's hostile and abusive and what's not. It came down to a few people with a vendetta against the name. As much as I wanted to keep the name, i always felt that we stood no chance. One thing I can say to all the Sioux fans is

DON'T LET THE HATERS GET TO YOU, DON'T LET THE TROLLS GET UNDER YOUR SKIN. HOLD YOU HEAD HIGH AND BE BETTER THAN THEM, THEY'RE JUST ANTS. LET THEM SAY WHAT THEY WILL AND IGNORE THEM. A TRUE SIOUX FAN IS BETTER THAN THAT. STAY CLASSY SIOUX FANS!!! FIGHTING SIOUX FOREVER!!!

  6. I like it because:

    1. We keep the Green/Black colors.

    2. Pheasants are an awesome bird, fast and cunning. Pretty mean too.

    3. How sweet would that look on the side of a football helmet! I might actually go to a game!

    4. We could actually have a mascot at games.

    I dislike it because:

    1. It has to many syllables. So it's tricky to work into chants/cheers. (A few innovative chants would be needed).

    2. Pheasants doesn't have a ring to it like some other nicknames do. Maybe use the logo and use a alternate name for Pheasants. (see point 1)

    3. Pheasants are more prominent in Western ND. But still in ND nonetheless.

    4. I'm not a fan of change, I like to keep things the way they are. :: sadface ::

But with a few fine touches, this has all the potential in the world, according to me :silly:. To each his own, right?

  7. It is so hard to come up with a nickname that is unique. Some team somewhere is bound to have the same thing or something similar. While the name "Sioux" is unique, the usage of Indian imagery in sports is just as prolific as the usage of Bulldogs, Huskies, etc. So in that regard it is a common name. When/if the nickname is changed, it is almost certain the name will be already used. If we're told to change the nickname, we'll have to settle for second best, there's no getting around that. So if I get a vote (which i don't) I'll vote Pheasants, I love that!

  8. Getting a Lamoureux jersey would be awesome, a little to rich for my blood right now. Too bad the Kristo is autographed  otherwise that would be pretty sweet.

  9. Do you guys even read the previous posts--what your attacking is his post that was directly related to MKSiouxs, which basically said they should get some portion of the licensing-- his response... using sarcasm. That's why I posted what I did, and that's the same reason I'm sure he posted what he did. Because the thought of that is just so ludicrous that it either illicits a response like mine, or incredibly sarcastic response like his. But the fact that you guys can't detect the saracasm is concerning.

It's hard to read sarcasm. Use an emote next time!

  10. Exactly, seriously enough with the freaking Blais talk, damn.

    THANK YOU!!

    1997 and 2000 says different

How the hell does winning a national championship 10-13 years ago GUARANTEE we win one this year or last year?

  11. I can't believe it only took 40 minutes of hockey to bring back all the "Dean Blais is the magic cure" talk. HE IS NO 100% SURE FIRE GUARANTEE WE'D WIN ANY NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS! The sooner you get that through your head the better.

  12. Really? would you like to re-live getting embarrassed on national TV against BC? Or how about blowing it against New Hampshire last year?

Like I said ding-dong, it's no treat, but it's still better than not being there. Not even making it would mean we would be a worse team. You go on the ignore list, drive by prick.
