2021-22 University of North Dakota Hockey Season
stoneySIOUX replied to Frozen4sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
There's two very clear distinctions people are missing over and over... 1) Being "alright" with it is frankly irrelevant. He did what he did for himself and I will not blame a kid for that. If you want to, that's fine, but save your mental health lol. He came to UND to try and make the NHL. Simple as that. 2) It sucks and it likely caused him A LOT of heartache. -

He absolutely has a chance to make the Sharks out of camp, without a doubt, and could make $900K. Set for life, likely not, but still pretty darn good. -

Maybe it doesn't for you, but it's pretty clear that it does for others on this thread. -

Of course, but Jasper absolutely has the body type, skill, and size to play there. You leave early when the offer is right. I think he just took what he could. Very unlikely. But when making a decision like this, you should absolutely consider all the options. -

Just giving you a hard time. We were definitely going to be battling for home ice and I completely agree the chemistry will take time. I am excited about all the new players with transfers and rookies. Still think this team can be a darn good one. Gonna be heavy and strong defensively. Losing Jasper doesn't help, no doubt. But, I think we'll be ok. I'm interested in how/if/when we fill this last spot. Heard a couple intriguing rumors. Certainly nothing set in stone. -

Good to know Bubbs' job is safe this year. Jasper is our new scapegoat. -

You missed the part where he went to development camp this week, dominated, and then was offered again. It is what it is. -

Definitely feel where you're coming from on it being a late move. Not a good look and is a huge bummer. But, the Sharks aren't good... maybe they are signing him with a shot at the NHL this season? So hard to pass up. He did what he thinks is right for himself. -

You sure? What happens if they kid blows his knee out? Who are we to say what he should or shouldn't do, honestly? -

Totally agree with the bashing of the school employee. Kids do dumb things lol. Yep, totally a bummer for our squad. I really thought he was gonna have a great year, too. But, he had to make a choice for himself. -

Hey, all of that is level-headed, IMO. None of us like the timing and that makes sense. With that said, your dream employer calls you with your dream job, you stay because of your team? Not sure I would. -

Kid made a decision for himself, which is likely tied to his dream of playing NHL hockey. Sharks are apparently giving him his shot. Sometimes, you gotta jump. We don't know the whole story. I definitely don't disagree that it reflects a bit on his character, but what does Jasper owe us as fans, personally? He came here to try and develop into a pro hockey player. There's a difference between applauding him for leaving and understanding why he did it. A lot of this thread feels like sour grapes towards a kid because some don't like him because of his political beliefs. -

So, your take is that he created friction, but because of a default, he just was given it again? I mean, I don't think that's true, but I can't say you're wrong. Everyone has their opinions on the kid and that's fine, but losing a No. 1 center and the type of player he is is absolutely not addition by subtraction. This feels like personal resentment for the kid over his kneeling. I find it hard to see Jasper as a "me" guy and how the team is in any way boosted by losing him. -

After all of this supposed "friction" he created in the locker room, he was again voted a captain. Yes, he did something as a "me" player, but that's why you come to UND, to try and play in the NHL. Would he have still been a "me" player had he not jumped? Again, he was voted a captain -- twice. It's not a season ender because we have good players, but it's absolutely not an addition by subtraction. -

I'm gonna say it... I wish you well, Jasper. I'm sure this decision wasn't easy and you are going to/have already pissed off A LOT of people, but you do you, man. Players come to UND to try and win a national championship and make it to the NHL and I'm all for a guy jumping at his opportunity. Good luck and I'll be cheering for you to make it to the show. With all of that said.... ugh, this blows. -

Ok, so the big picture... in this situation... is that we lost our No. 1 center... like I said. Got it If he didn't leave, would he still be a detriment to the team? Goodness. He was voted a two-year captain in spite of any tension he may have created prior to leaving. This absolutely not addition by subtraction. -

I guess I don't understand the "big picture" here. Could you elaborate? I can't speak of what he was like as a locker room guy, but a two-year captaincy isn't a joke at UND. I certainly never heard of any major gripes. All I see is a team who lost their clear No. 1 center and defensive stud basically a month before the season. -
That thing will be off that sidewalk by the Monday after Welcome Weekend. Book it.

You're GD right, CM.

Not gonna lie... that hat and stare combo has me dying. It's hilarious.

And again, I was only commenting on how ugly that effin' statue is. I think you're overthinking this thread here, friend. Have a beer. It's Friday.
-
Choose a side for what? Our name is our name - period. You may have not been speaking directly about/to me, but I am only commenting on how ugly AF that statute is. It's not good.
-
I think you're making fun of us who think this statue is horrendous, but I am not sure. Sarcasm font? In all seriousness, of course this silly statue won't affect me, nor my love for my alma mater one iota, but that doesn't mean it's not a horrendous statue lol.
