  1. Looks like NoDak is sharing their Neulion webstream tonight with Miami as it shows it is listed for us to view on our end. I'll be watching. Good Luck guys. I'll exit the board now.

I'm definitely sensitive to it, maybe overly so but I grew up respecting the logo and what it stood for. But definitely come on the boards more often, we can always use some victim's err... I mean opponents fan perspective :)

  2. That's the way it seems, doesn't it? A lot like Colorado College.

I wouldn't want to play Miami in the opening round and would gladly let St Cloud have them instead.

Yeah agree, but I want that Penrose Cup to have UND on the top line

  3. I've had several interactions with Hakstol over the years at the Final Five. Every single time, either before or after a game, he would stop to say a few words to kids who are in the hotel lobby. MafiaMan Jr was busy scrounging up autographs at the Crowne Plaza a few years ago and Hak asked him if "the boys" were all taking care of his signature requests. He also asked if my son played hockey (the answer was "yes) and said he'd be keeping an eye on him and maybe see him in a Sioux uniform in a few years (my son was 9 at the time). Whether being on the way to the rink for the pre-game morning skate or coming back from a title-game thriller, the head coach of the Sioux was always pleasant to deal with.

But, that's just my two cents. I'm sure it's much more fun for radio hacks to grumble about Hakstol's demeanor on the air and that they've heard rumors that Dave spends his free time volunteering to euthanize puppies and kittens at The Humane Society.

Hey now! Don't provide real stories that actually happened instead of just conjecture that he doesn't seem like a nice guy. Cool story about his interaction with your son though.

My parents have ran into Hakstol in St. Cloud and said he couldn't have been nicer. I think he's really intense and that puts some people off for some reason, not sure why. I remember seeing him at King's Walk in the pro shop about to go play golf and he looked as if he was about to play in the Masters.

In my opinion(I'm sure a lot of bashers will disagree), he doesn't do anything less than 100%. He really wants to win and I think that has shown when he's won the McNaughton Cup, Broadmoor Cup, and NCAA regionals. Just one final step, and I hope he gets there really soon(like within the next 2-3 years).

  4. Well played Mauer...well played.

The boys have popped in 3..........in their last 37 PP chances.

    I stand corrected.

As long as 37 attempts is enough of a sample size for you to declare the dump and chase completely useless no matter the personnel, knock yourself out. Just pointing out that it was a black and white answer to something that's not that simple. If you have the right personnel or the right situation the dump and chase isn't a completely dead option. This team has had it's fair share of struggles carrying the puck in as well, turning it over at the blue line, and allowing more 2 on 1's than I care to remember. Hopefully mixing up some lines and changing the strategy throughout the course of the game so other teams don't know what we're doing every single time, like last weekend, would prove to more fruitful.

  5. Yeah, I noticed it several times on Saturday night. I think that's the method the Sabres typically try to use to enter the zone on the PP (a good team to copy, since they're dominating the NHL these days). I think the intent is to have the puck carrier enter with speed, which can sometimes be easier when it isn't your first player through the neutral zone.

I must have missed it the next few times. Admittedly made it to the bar upstairs for a shot and drink after the 2nd period so that could have affected my recollection  .

  6. Scheme and execution need to change as well. Dump and lose chase to puck won't get it done...regardless of personnel.

Not necessarily true, that would imply dump and chase has never worked for anyone... ever. However did anyone notice the one time a UND forward pretended like he was entering the zone, turned around and passed to a dman who carried it into the zone? Then of course Mattson flubbed the puck at the blue line and it was cleared again. They never tried it again despite it working, thought that was odd.

  7. Geez, I'd love to respond to this right now, but I'm busy walking Dave's dog and after that, I have to pick up his suit for Friday's game at the dry cleaners. I'll try to pick this apart bit by bit later, though, I promise.

They just folded the team after reading this forum so forget the suit.

  8. Making the tourney every year, winning Broadmoors, and going to numerous Frozen Fours is not "mediocre."

Oh crap, I agree with a Gopher fan. I better turn in my Sioux fandom ASAP. It's pretty funny that the Minnesota fan is trying, or so it appears, to inject some logic and keep fans from jumping off the cliff after a split.

All in all, this is pretty damn hilarious watching this website blow up like clockwork after every single regular season loss and re-hash the last 10 years and why Hakstol should be fired immediately and replaced with one of the SS.com forum members.

  9. I have seen comments to the effect of "I would like to have a "natty", but.....". Which tells me it just isn't all that important to them. They are satisfied with winning seasons and a few league titles here and there. That is their opinion. I do not share that opinion. With all the tools we have at UND, NCAA titles should not be this impossible to win.

I think a lot of times saying that is that fan finding the silver lining in some of the ncaa disappointment we have had. Almost every one of our fans wants a natty. There are just some slight disagreements on how to get there.

  10. The problem is, when things started going badly Sat. night, one of a couple of things should have been done. 1.) For the first time in years, someone should have gotten into a fight to fire up the team and turn the momentum back our way.

#11 was being a pain in the a** for example. Or Archibald for that matter, should you really get away "clean" w/ a hat

trick? In the early 90s we may have lost, but we at least roughed some people up before they left the building! And

yes, I know that this is a team where, unlike previous years, we don't really have any fighters, but if that's the case, the coach should come up w/ a different plan. . .like pull Saunders for the freshman after the 5th goal; could he

really been worse on breakaways than Saunders?. (Although stopping the cherry picking, B.C. breakaways might have been

another solution!) Or hell, OUR coach could have started throwing things and gotten kicked out of the game. Maybe that would have gotten through to these guys. Some one needed to wake them up during this game and no one stepped up, player or coach.

At the very least, there should have been some serious skating going on afterwards. It was a pathetic effort, all

    around.

Ok. That's my one "once every three years" rant. :)

Did you see how Archibald's "hat trick" was scored?

1st goal- off Simpson's skate, so really an assist by Archibald

2nd goal- big change up that almost was too slow to cross the goal line yet Saunders magically missed every part of the puck

3rd goal- driving wide around Schmaltz, who recovers and gets his stick on the puck. Saunders overplays Archibald and fails to notice the puck sliding in the near side of the net.

I wouldn't put it up there as one of the sexiest hat tricks ever scored. If anyone deserved to be "roughed up" it was our goalie and defense so I'm all for the bag skate idea.

  11. CHN just finished theirs a week or two ago. But, while they were working on it they still had the old table posted, so I was warning people that their posted table was wrong. Now that they've finished it, their's seems more correct to me.

In short, in trying to do it myself before USCHO or CHN did it, I found out how basketball applied the weights and did that (even though it seemed subpar). When USCHO came out with their's about a month ago, they did the same thing I had done, so I assumed it must be correct (even though it had proven pretty quirky as I was trying to implement it).

Once CHN did it the other way and declared they were sure they were right, I now think USCHO just did what I did -- found out how basketball does it and assumed that must be how hockey does. But, basketball's implementation doesn't work well with the dropped games. So, I'm going to start moving entirely to the CHN calculation (though will maintain the ability to run USCHO's if we get more information in the future).

Makes sense, I'm interested to see how this will adjust to your future predictions and if it will be more or less volatile and hopefully (fingers crossed) gives UND a better chance to make bigger moves upwards!

  12. Yeah, the conference playoffs can definitely help. But, keep in mind that if you don't win it all you get at least one loss. So, if an at-large bid matters for you, you're probably adding something like 3-1 or 4-1 at best. For teams around 15 in PWR, that can be enough to push you in; but generally not if you're down around 20. (At least under the old PWR, the new one seems a little easier to climb from 20 to 13-14).

For what it's worth, I like CHN's PWR slightly better than USCHO's (objective, not because of how UND performs). I've spent the last week working on duplicating it, so now should be able to run CHN's or both going forward.

Yes, good point. You would have to have AT LEAST 1 loss, could even have 2 with the 3rd place game now.

What's the reasoning for switching your stance on PWR as I thought earlier in the year you were more keen on USCHO's?

  13. I think they need to win in Minneapolis to get to the dance.

They don't "need to" as of right now, however if they don't play extremely well coming down the stretch it's a possibility.

Winning the Final Faceoff obviously will get them in but there are other ways. We are 3 pairwise spots out of having a solid chance at being in, so I'm not ready to submit to the doom and gloom just because we had a home split.

  14. 8 NCHC games remaining. My guess is best case scenario of 6-2. That leaves UND (per the mathematical mind of Jim) at.......12 to 13 heading into the NCHC playoffs. 5-3 leaves UND on outside looking in at that point.

Don't forget that Jim did not factor in a potential 2-5 extra games beyond that. I have a feeling UND will at least need to make it to Minneapolis to be playing in the NCAA Tournament at the end of the year.

  15. He needs skaters beside him. OD isn't one. Rocco missed Drake this weekend IMO.

^ This, if you're expecting Rocco to turn into Oshie or Frattin and take over a game physically and otherwise you're going to be sorely disappointed. He needs other players to feed off of like Drake.

  16. I think miss Sioux is correct... we are starting to see the effect of losing so many of our forward recruits. The goals we do score are hardly pretty and when we make a good play the boys typically screw it up. When I just mentioned has been an ongoing issue the whole year, last nights game was a result of multiple defensive (both forwards and defensemen) breakdowns and a low compete level. However that UNO team did have much better forwards than we do.

Another thing to consider is that blais is such a great coach, you are starting to see him build a decent program down there. He also has the two leaders in USHL scoring coming in next year. UNO could be pretty good next year if they can find a goalie. another tidbit, I believe Kristo was the last blais recruit (could be wrong here) meaning hak was riding blais recruits for a while.

Wouldn't that mean that Blais recruited Kristo when he was about 12?! This doesn't seem right to me but Kristo came here knowing full well that Hakstol was the coach so I think we can give up the Blais recruited players approach 10 years after he's left the program  .

  17. Yeah crazy; I think that's why this loss stung so bad. not only giving up the lead but giving up 5 straight. not sure what was going on in that bench.

I really think that 2nd goal that hit Saunders in the mitt and popped in to the crease was a tough, tough goal to allow. Then the freak goal off Simpson's skate and just to top it off, the absolutely awful goal that was maybe moving a mile an hour that Clarke missed. That's how we lost that game.

I'd say Saunders is credited with 3 bad goals in this game. I wanted to see Hrynkiw in the 3rd period to breath some life back into the team because it was clear our goalie's confidence was shot.

  18. This team wastes way to much on the cycle and or grinding it out on the wall, lots of these players were goal scorers on their previous teams, you don't forget how to score. You can't score behind the net or eating the puck against the wall with you face in the glass.when was the last time we came back from being down 3-1 to winning 6-3 Hakstol style won't let that happen. We can say miller, mateau etc would have changed some things but the style is not fun to watch and not much scoring.

Um...Semifinal game against the Gophers in the Final Five 2 years back, but we were down 3-0 and won 6-3. So apparently "Hakstol's style" will let that happen. :silly:

  19. I agree with you fully... and this very thread is one of the main reasons I don't visit this forum anymore... To believe we have fans that act like this when we get a loss is unreal.. Those people give me the feeling an arrogant gophers fan would and I'd just rather avoid those types of people.. Last night was a tough loss I get that, we played very poorly and it was often hard to watch.. but sure enough, come to siouxsports and this is the top thread. A bunch of NHL coaches hidden behind sioux related usernames show up and start in.

Yup, last night sucked as did Saunders and our power play but let's forget it and move on. Of course this thread didn't show up when we were on our 10 game unbeaten streak that everyone has conveniently forgotten. Time to focus on Miami and controlling what we can instead of going on this pathetic Fire Hakstol routine. Let's finish the season strong and win the NCHC playoffs so there's no doubt we make the dance.
