  1. No I am serious about this. I never liked the black and I never was impressed with Ben's design going back to the day it was released. All the lines are too sharp and does not flow well.

A lot of people disagree with you according to that contest that ranked it as the best looking logo in all of hockey, but hey you're entitled to your opinion...

I guess the reason I like the new one is because of the symbolism behind it.

  2. Can not grab the concept of a joke? I do like the retro jersey at the top of this thread. I have never liked the black jerseys though. Heck I press my shirts when they come back from the cleaners. I also never thought that Ben's design looked good on the jerseys compared to the Blackhawk design.

I hope this is a joke too...

  3. I agree, Mario is more responsible defensively, but I think Pattyn is better in the offensive zone already. He makes better decisions, is better in the corners and is a pretty good passer as well, along with being a faster skater. Leaving all of the intangibles and leadership out of it, in terms of pure hockey playing ability, I would take Pattyn over Mario in a heartbeat right now.

That be leaving quite a bit out of it considering that's Mario Lamoreaux in a nutshell. It'd be like saying, leaving out all of the physical skills I'd take Joe Finley over Jonathon Toews because he's taller.

  4. Last year the Sioux were the best team in the nation and a LOT better than Michigan. Weren't the Sioux the highest scoring team in the nation? To get to the biggest game of the season and get shut out is a choke job in a major way. If that were the Gophers last season EVERY Sioux fan would be talking about a Gopher choke.

It's weak to give Hakstol a pass just because Hunwick had a good game.

I watched every single game last year (many of them live) and went to the game against Michigan at the Excel. I can say that the entire team looked to me like they were playing nervous. Passes were bouncing off of sticks that any other game of the year they would have caught with ease. They almost appeared rigid.

Everyone feels the pressure in these games, it's just how you handle that pressure that defines you as a team and that team didn't execute when it mattered most. You can look at many plays in the game that point to that (Genoway shooting into Hunwick with 1/2 net open, Frattin wide open in the slot). These plays would be goals every other game of the year but it wasn't to be that night. Toughest game i've ever had to watch in my life.

  5. Jim had this nailed over a month ago, if we sweep this series we should be safe even if we lose the Thursday game at the FF.

    Nice work young man.

I would not feel safe if we are sitting at 12-14 waiting for other tournaments to finish...just sayin

  6. For a very accurate but limited 1-week answer, you can go to Whelan's Build Your Own Rankings calculator, say you want to calculate PWR, and change that game to a loss. That would put UND at T-14 (#15 w/tie-breaker), so the tie did a buy the Sioux a spot this week over if it had been a loss.

    More abstractly, it helps:

    • A tie goes into RPI as half a win, boosting UND's RPI by something like .0036 over if it had been a loss. That's enough to give UND the Ohio St. comparison this week, and could have similar effects at the end.
    • Assuming Tech remains a non-TUC, it wouldn't affect H2H or TUC.
    • And on COP gives UND's COP vs. Mich. Tech a little boost from .500 to .750. That's most helpful in comparisons with non-conference common opponents, where the effect is magnified by the small number of COPs. e.g. vs. Boston College, the Sioux now win the comparison at .75 to .6667, whereas with a loss it would have been a .625 to .6667 loss.

Thanks, that is a very helpful explanation. I had never considered a tie since all of the PWR predictor articles are whether we will get 0,2, or 4 points. Wasn't sure what 3 would do when I was watching the end of the game on Saturday night.

  7. So how does a tie affect the Pairwise for the Sioux compared to a loss? Does it help? I am just wondering because BE saved that point for us in the WCHA standings but does it also help in the Pairwise?

  8. Al Pearson has a fan bus/party bus going to St. Paul for the FInal Five. A friend and I took his fan bus to Duluth and had a great time. Jello shots were passed around within the first hour and the keg was empty by the time we got to Bemidji. Al books a block of rooms for the group and has tickets if you need them. Call him for more information - (218) 779-5740

Must have had too many jello shots if you want to Minneapolis through Bemidji... I know a quicker way

  9. I wouldn't count on it. Hakstol isn't going anywhere.

I've heard rumor of the Winnipeg Jets a couple of weeks ago, anyone else hear anything similar because that one came out of left field for me and not sure if there was any factual backing to this?

  10. I would have to say that yes the game will be a sell out but you are going to see a lot of Sioux jerseys in the stands. Our fanbase travels well and they will come from Minneapolis, GF and beyond for this series.

Just got my tickets confirmed today from the Ralph Box Office so I will be driving up from Minneapolis! Go Sioux!!!

  11. Whats Al's Fan bus? Sweet hope to see pleanty of Sioux fans there! I only live an hour away so not far drive for us. I got upper bowl tickets right now, trying to get some better lower bowl ones hopefully by game weekend. Yeah no area is nice, but no comparison in my opinion to Engelstad Area. Should be a good weekend.

I'll buy the uppers if you're selling them. Any idea where to get 2 tickets for Saturday Night? I just want to be in the arena.

  12. Not to be a downer, but 2 pts looks pretty good based on all the injuries for the SIOUX...

Never underestimate the power of The Ralph! I can't wait for my 4 day weekend to get up for this game. We've proven we can score goals now, even shorthanded some key players. I say Sioux take it to the Gophers 5-2, 6-1 Sioux Sweep!

  13. You have to be good and lucky, and the four finalists all caught breaks to advance.

UND was fortunate Denver was dragged to 2 OTs in the late game against WMU. They couldn't win a race or a battle in the third period.

Michigan is thankful Howe played out of his mind against BC and Muse played without his in the same game. (Not really fair as Muse didn't play terribly.) What I saw from BC in that game was a team with a ridiculous amount of offensive ability. I'm still surprised they didn't come back and win in the third, because they created enough chances for it to happen. Michigan also arguably caught a break with the curious OT goal call against UNO, although I think it was probably both a goal and an incorrect call.

Notre Dame was 1-2-2 against Miami this year, including a 6-2 loss a week before the Regional. Getting placed in Miami's bracket seemed unfortunate, until UNH took Miami out of the picture.

UMD had to go through Union and Yale to get to the Frozen Four: the nicest regional placement ever for a #3 seed. In addition, Yale's best player was questionably booted from the game in the second, with the ensuing two PP goals burying the ... er, Bulldogs.

So everyone caught breaks to get here, and to their credit they all jumped on them. Who will have the good fortune in 10 and 12 days, and will anyone be good enough to overcome the bad breaks?

I really don't see UND as being lucky at all. They would've just beat Denver maybe 3-1 instead of 6-1. If anything Denver was lucky to make it to overtime against WMU. Then the Sioux just played smart in the 3rd period against the Pios and still stretched the lead. With a healthy roster and continuing to play smart, simple hockey I can't see them losing.

  14. I have a question regarding both UND and Minnesota hockey programs. There's no denying when it comes to developing good hockey players Minnesota ranks up there with the best of them. I have a buddy that lives in Minnesota and we go back and forth all the time on which program is better and why.

My argument is we have more championships at UND, and his argument is we have to import players to compete and win championships. He said he'd rather have a good team with all Minnesota kids versus bringing in kids from all over North America.

Then I asked him if Minnesota fans are so devoted why can't they sell out Xcel at tourney time to support the Gophers? When it comes to numbers Minnesota has more people.

This is his response please let know what you think..............................

He said that there's too many things to do in Minnesota with Wild, Timberwolves, Vikings, five DI hockey schools, skiing, ice fishing, ect......... Too many choices and people can only afford so much. Then he goes as far as saying Grand Forks is just like Green Bay in the fact there's nothing else to do in Grand Forks in the winter.

    Is this a valid response?

Why do you play college hockey? To win national championships. 7>5

  15. Another thing, you talk about not living in the past, how it means nothing...also, you say how lame it is Sioux fans bring up the Holy Cross debacle. Why then, do you have a UNH guy celebrating a win over UND as your avatar?

    Great point!
