  1. Sure it was a gift to get the major because there was an argument for it to go either way. But it's not like the refs handed them goals, just the opportunity. They still had to score them and you have to admit that AA has likely had bigger collapses than that.

Looking at my post count and how long I've been a member, I'm not sure you could say I frequent here. But I'll admit it can be a fun stop during game week. Plus what fun would it be if you had no one to chirp against? But I guess I'll be here a lot less now since they won't be playing soon. *pauses for the cheering at my upcoming extended absence to subside, if anyone really cares that much about little old me*

UAA's whole season is a collapse, which is why giving a team like UAA that disadvantage at that point in the game was ridiculous.

Insert visited in place of frequented, the meaning is still there. I tend to like my chirping in person so I'll be on hand at Mariucci to do plenty of it this weekend.

  2. I think it does matter because that's what happened in the game. If it was a 2, the Gophers to go overtime tied. IMHO way more often I've seen a five minute penalty kill as a bigger momentum changer than major power play goals. I don't like to see them awarded too often unless it kicks out some player I despise or the team scores 2 goals to win the game.

I'm happy to talk about it but I was just suprised to see it because UND wasn't involved in the game and no UND fans are obsessed with the Gophers. :D Sorry, couldn't resist that easy one.

My point was that the "gift"(your words) the Gophers were given handed them an extra point in WCHA standings which can be huge come the end of the year. It's not like I'm nitpicking a tripping minor that happened in the 2nd period of a game in 2004 against Wisconsin so not sure why I should "move past it"(your words again).

I watched the Gophers v UAA game because I'm a college hockey fan. I also watched the Sioux game, Nebraska-Omaha, and many others across the country.

I mean, it's not like I signed up for an account and frequented my opponent's hockey forums, now that would be pathetic. Sorry, couldn't resist that easy one.

  3. How often do you see multiple goals scored on a major? Not very. The gophers did get a bit of a gift but it was certainly at least a 2 min boarding call, and they scored less than 2 min into the PP.

But why are you still talking about this game anyways? Figured would have moved past it by now.

Does it matter how often multiple goals are scored on a major or that it is a possibility? The momentum that it can create is huge.

This game happened 5 days ago. I brought it up because it was relevant to a comment about checking from behind. Please let me know the statute of limitations for talking about a past game as I wasn't aware of it.

  4. Budish was engaged with a player, and was turning to keep the puck in the zone--not to get himself killed. Or should he have just chipped the puck out of the offensive zone?

I'm not questioning his play on the puck but it looked like it shouldn't have been called a penalty or at least not a 5 minute major because he turned so late. That was a huge influence in the outcome of that game. I just don't like refs calling majors on a play that the checking player is not at fault for.

  5. Why would a hockey player put themself in a dangerous position like that? I understand players try to draw penalties but not by putting themselves at risk.

That Friday game against UAA, it looked like Buddish did exactly this. Maybe not trying to put himself at risk, but trying to draw the penalty by turning right before the UAA player hit him. The ref of course gave the 5 minutes to the Gophers who were down by 1 with a few minutes left I believe. The game was over at that point.

  6. Seriously? 5 years isn't a big enough sample size to prove your fan base is nuts?

I was honestly wondering why 5 years was chosen, since it is easy to make numbers say what you want if a specific time period is chosen. I actually wanted to know.

In those five years, the referees from those games are still active in the WCHA and thus, could be at Mariucci Arena this weekend. If you go back six years, you have Jon Campion who has been retired since 2011.

This is a legitimate reason, thanks.

  7. If by tradition you mean the Sioux holding a 34-30 edge in power play opportunities since 2008 at Mariucci Arena, then yes, twice as many.

    UND: 1-34

    UM: 3-30

Any specific reason 2008 was picked? Or just convenient for the numbers?

  8. Parks and Wilcox are tied with 2 points each. (yes, I know parks has missed 17 games or something like that)

I think we'll find out this weekend that statement is false. The Kristo-Knight-Whoever line has been scoring a ton this season and is a legitimate threat, but the drop off from there is noticeable. Maybe the MacMillan brothers can get something going, and yeah Rocco is a nice talent (but can he be a good teammate?), but both need to be proven before you can put those goals in the bank.

I really think this weekend comes down to whoever scores the third goal on Friday. Both of these teams can take a punch early and get back up but if one starts rolling, either going up 3-0 or 2-1, it could get ugly.

Yeah, going down 2-1 would be really bad. You might as well call the game at that point. I mean, everyone knows a 1 goal lead is the safest lead in hockey...

  9. Hak got rid of Eades and hand picked Berry. 9 games in Berry should have made more of a positive impact than he has IMO. Things will turn the corner. Just surprised it's been this slow to happen especially w all the high end talent on the blue line.

Last year we were 3-6-1 through 10 games, if we win tonight we'll be 5-3-2 including 2 shutouts, I'd take that over last year with Eades even if you don't like how the D is progressing.

  10. I'm surprised more people didn't see this coming at the beginning of the season. This is just the way Hak teams play in the first half of the season. I'm always prepared for a first half stinker. I used to doubt Hakstol like everyone else with his slow starts but after last year, with a depleted roster, finishing the way they did I refuse to doubt him. This team will be playing its best hockey in the second half. I guarantee it. FYI, the 2010-11 team started 5-4-1 through the first ten games. Tonight will be game ten for us and we are 4-3-2 right now.

Yup, great point here. The team is struggling in areas right now but they did start the season out with 2 single game exhibition weekends which isn't the best test to learn how to play as a team. I also refuse to doubt Hak and turn on him for a tie even though I too was very disappointed we didn't win. Hopefuly a decisive win tonight will change some "fans" attitudes on here.

  11. I ordered mine this morning . Hve 4 SRO on Saturday and 4 resererved for Friday!

Just bought my 4 SRO for Saturday night at Mariucci! It will be my first time at that rink, anyone have any opinion on the standing room only view of the ice? I'm in section 7 at exactly center ice.

  12. "Safe" is a relative term. You have a statistically higher chance of getting robbed, raped, murdered in Minneapolis then you do in Grand Forks, Fargo, Bismarck, etc. That is a stone cold fact. This may be due to the fact you are targeted, or simply an innocent bystander. That said, I have spent many days and nights in Minneapolis and have never been hassled. People in LA or NYC see MSP as a place where the doors are all left unlocked, and there is no crime. Again, as many things are, it is all relative.

I think the bolded pretty much is the answer to all of the arguments whether Minneapolis is "safe" or not. It's not like walking the lovely bar strip of Grand Forks but it's not South Central Los Angeles either.

  13. Downtown Mpls and the Warehouse District are extremely safe. Target Center is next to Target Field, and how many times have you heard people complain about crime when they talk about Target Field? They don't.

I would definitely agree with this as I live DT Minneapolis. Have never ran into problems walking home from the bars even at 2 AM. Now if you accidentally wander on the other side of Broadway (not sure how you could unless you were really drunk)...that's a different story and you're asking for trouble.

  14. Hakstol says "I felt a need to redefine and restructure the roles and duties within our coaching staff."

Wow, that's a shock. I wonder what Hakstol means with the above statement and how that pertains to Eades not coming back.

  15. I miss you already Seth. It's like the hot girl in class always giving you a feeling you have a chance. Until she leaves with the captain of the hockey team. We will be fine without him. There are still many good looking girls in class.

...and the captain of the hockey team gave the hot girl a nice big stack of cash under the table to go with him

  16. Schlossman said, "This has to imply that Everett doesn't think it's getting Jones, but probably not great news for UND"

The Portland Winterhawks hold the rights to a few UND recruits. I'm sure they will make a hard push for Jones.

Interesting, I wonder why that wouldn't be good news for UND. Maybe Everett heard he was leaning towards North Dakota and tried to trade his rights for something of value? I don't know how the WHL system works very well but this feels like a conspiracy of WHL v. NCAA.

  17. The Gophers are the only WCHA team in the Frozen Four, cheer for the Gophers. Plus, if our is team is going to get beat they might as well get beat by the team that ultimately goes on to win it all. That makes us look better than if we were to get beat by a team that chokes in the next round. This should be an easy choice.

No, that's ridiculous logic especially when you're talking about rodents. It should be an easy choice to root against the gophers. Then against BC in the title game.

  18. Logic check: Remember its ok for the B1G to improve their lot in the college hockey world, not O.K. for the NCHC teams to want to improve their lot. No offense but the WCHA in its present form when PSU decided to add hockey. The WCHA minus Minnesota and Wisconsin isn't very attractive.

    Exactly, quite the double standard
