  1. I understand it is not a factor in determining seeds. Im just saying there would have been something seriously wrong with the Gophers playing a road game against a team they dominated during the season and finished a mile adhead in the standings. Its a moot point anyway because the NCAA will not go back to on campus sites.

Well then I think there is something seriously wrong with the Sioux being the 1 seed and playing across the river from the U's campus, but it's because the Gophers are given a host regional/Frozen Four so often. In the only standings that matter come NCAA time the Sioux finished well ahead of your Rodents because of your less than stellar non-conference play. It's not just the WCHA games that matter. I wouldn't say you were exactly "dominant" when you gave up 6 unanswered goals for a loss leading into NCAA tournament play which resulted in you winning 3 of the 5 meetings up until that time. You were ahead but "dominant" is taking it too far.

  2. This might be going out on limb, but I think I am the only person in New Jersey who has Tony Hrkac Quebec Nordiques jersey :)

I would give you pretty much anything for that jersey. That is awesome!

  3. Great post, JF. I couldn't agree more. The last two games are what the rivalry is really all about. I will be pulling for the Gophers against Boston College, you can bet on that. I think this is one of Hakstol's greatest coaching jobs. I've never quite really understood the reasoning behind fans trying to oust either Hak or Lucia. Both have proven to be outstanding coaches through the years. Just because Michigan lost in the first round should Red Berenson be fired? Come on now. It;'s tough to be in charge of a topnotch program such as UND, Minnesota or Michigan with fans expecting a national championship each year. Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown, I guess.

I'll be pulling for Ferris State

  4. I agree. The Gophers were the better team all year. The Sioux had a great showing in the Final Five and accomplished a lot in the face of a lot of adversity. I am very proud of this Sioux team. However, in my way of thinking, the following are the highest accomplishments in order:

    1. National championship

    2. Frozen Four appearance

    3. NCAA appearance

    4. WCHA Title

    5. Final 5 Title

The Gophers have a Frozen Four appearance and a WCHA title, and now have a chance to get a national title. They have a good team and deserve to be there. I don't expect them to beat BC, but they are one of the few teams that has a chance against BC. If they do beat BC, they should have an easy time with Ferris State or Union.

Then again, BC was supposed to have an easy time with Michigan State in '07... you never know

  5. Well...then I better change my plans and not head to the X.

I guess we'll see. I haven't missed many games this season, either live, TV or webcast, and I can count on one hand where UND's top line wasn't the best line on the ice for that particular game. One line doesn't make a team, and regardless of what USCHO says I'd be suprised if UND's top line didn't ouplay WMU's top line tomorrow.

Yeah I feel the same way. I just hadn't heard much at all about their top line until that point. Don't think they score a lot of goals or anything (not that that is the only important thing) but our top line brings it most every night

  6. This game IMO comes down to discipline...if UND stays out of the box, I think they roll. 5v5 hockey will be key for UND. UND's top line is superior in talent and should have a big impact on this game. Dell will be steady if not great. 4-2 Sioux is my call with WMU scoring late to make it look closer than it is. If UND throws in 4 straight penalties to start the game like they did vs. the Gophs last week, all bets are off.

According to USCHO, WMU has arguably one of the top lines in the nation...I think that'd be a tough argument to win

  7. Every time I see a new post in this thread I think "could this be the one?" But no, just more Mario talk. Boo.

If Seth Jones commits to UND I will be extremely excited...there, that better?

  8. The NCAA said Florida State had to get the Seminole tribe in Florida to approve the name. They did. So the NCAA approves it. The NCAA said that UND had to get both Sioux tribes in North Dakota to approve the name. They both did not. So the NCAA doesn't approve. What ;s not to get? I am ot trying to defend the NCAA on this, but the facts are the facts. Had we gotten approval from both tribes, the team would be wearing their Sioux jerseys this weekend with the name and logo on it. If anyone brings that sign, they will look pretty dumb, in my opinion. UND had their window of opportunity, but they didn't succeed. I get it. Most other logical people do to.

This is going a bit off topic but I'm curious...why did the previous ceremony where the Sioux tribe blessed (blessed may not be the correct word) the use of the name for the University not take care of this requirement? Was it not typed on NCAA sanctioned paper? Is the blessing only good for a certain number of years, like an expiring blessing? I get your comment above that this is what the NCAA is requiring but why hasn't the past event I mentioned provided precedence to take care of this?

  9. He does suck. 3 goals on the year. His value is in the locker room not on the ice. He's a good penalty killer and grinds well and is a hard forechecking forward and......... is devoid of most offensive skills. No one is more happy for him than me but don't tell me he's a great player cause he just isn't. He'll make a great coach someday and has provided invaluable leadership to the youngsters on the team but once again don't try and say he's a great player

You just keep digging your hole deeper, saying he sucks is just clueless. That value in the locker room carries onto the ice. Go ask Hakstol or any of Mario's teammates for their assessment of Mario. I bet you they'd laugh in your face if you told them he sucked. No one ever said he was great... did they?

  10. I made the comment that this was the most angry I have seen the masses at the Final Five. Not sure about Sioux fans, we were just happy, but St Cloud and Gopher fans were extremely angry at times! (rightfully so, I suppose)

I found the best way to handle those fans was ignore them and cheer extra loud in their general direction when the Sioux mounted that insane comeback. That was the best hockey game I have ever been to hands down! I'm still in shock that it happened and made me very proud of this team and proud to be a fan of the Fighting Sioux.

  11. I stand by what I said. It had been a while since he scored and once again it was all heart no skill from him. Don't forget that it was Pattyn being a monster on the boards that set that up.

I'm not talking about pattyn. You said Mario sucks... now go enjoy your crow

  12. Way to show this poster he is clueless Mario. Hell of an effort on that game winning goal fighting through 3 goofers to get in position to get the puck on his stick. His work ethic and leadership is what Fighting Sioux hockey is all about.

    Exactly!

  13. Mario sucks. He works hard and wins some faceoffs and scores once every two months. I like that he works hard and has a nice last name but thats about all he has going for him. What I don't understand is his utter lack of any offensive skills for a Sioux forward after being in the program for four years, you'd think he'd be at least decent by now with all the training they do. Saying he's a good forward is on par with some of the crap we hear from NDSU fans, he's a good leader and a hard worker but this pig does not need any more lipstick.

Do you wanna backpedal on this a little bit NOW???
