  1. I agree that was thinking behind it. I just don't agree that the Minnesota schools absolutely had to be paired together. There is more history between UND and Duluth than St. Cloud and Duluth. I was in Omaha and agree that it was a great trip. And I actually think Omaha has a great set-up with the Century Link Center/downtown/hotel area. However, are that many UND fans going to travel to Omaha without the outdoor game? It's a long drive from any location that has a concentration of UND fans. And there is absolutely no history between these teams in hockey. I'm not sure if they even played each other before 2010.

To this point, I actually do think that people will travel for this series. It's about 5 hours from Minneapolis and an easy drive through Iowa and I think it gives UND Colorado Alumni a chance to make a trip too. I'm not saying it will be like it was a couple weekends ago but I believe the turnout will still be solid.

  2. That's one side of it, but you're not including the the fact that every other year it's going to be in Grand Rapids. I'm not just talking about MSP, I'm talking about the big picture. You fail to consider these stats:

    LSSU-GR: 277 miles (negligible)

    NMU-GR: 387 miles (Advantage GB)

MTU-GR- 496 miles (Big advantage GB)

FSU-GR: 57 miles (Big advantage GR)

    Oh yeah, then there is:

BG-GR:221 miles (compared to 456 miles- Big advantage GR)

Point being the travel between schools and locations are not that much different in the grand scheme of things. Considering that the WCHA is going to be spread out more than any other conference in the nation by a large margin, finding a "centrally" located arena isn't really that big of a deal. It's more important to look at where you are going to be able to draw the most fans on a yearly basis. There is going to be very little walkup traffic in Green Bay. Going on the off years of the Big Ten offers the potential for gaining some of those people that hard core fans of Big Ten teams. Having the ability to get in and out easily and cheaply is also a big deal for these schools. It's not cheap to fly into Green Bay. To fly into MSP is much less expensive. You can't cherry pick 4 schools and talk about how those 4 are the ones that you should look at....the conference is 10 teams (including a minimum of 3 that will be required to fly or bus for 20+ hours). If the tournament is held in Green Bay, you are most certainly counting on casual fans. If you have it in MSP you will have more of an alumni base to pull in as well as have easier access and Grand Rapids you will again have more of an alumni base in closer proximity to the location.

You also have to look at the realistic situation that fans of these teams are both pessimistic and skeptical of the situation that we're left with. You have to try to make the fan bases of all of the teams as happy as possible. Having the tourney in a site that's the "least bad" isn't a good option at all. It's more likely to upset more people than it will do anything else. The perception of those people are what's important at this point. No one and nothing else.

Nice little insult by the way. This has nothing to do with being upset with being left behind. Am I annoyed by it? Sure. Do I think it was short-sighted? Most certainly. Do I really think it's going to be for the better of everyone? Not a chance. That doesn't mean that I can't be objective about the situation. It may sound crass, but realistically, what a bunch of UND fans think is "better" for the WCHA is insignificant. UND fans or any NCHC or Big Ten schools have no bearing on any decision that the conference make from this point forward. The only schools and fans that matter are the ones that will be in the WCHA for the forseeable future. The perception of an empty arena doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is keeping our programs afloat. If acknowledging that fact is "being mad that they are still stuck sitting at the kid's table on holidays", so be it. That doesn't change that it is the reality.

You probably shouldn't be reading these message boads if you don't want to know what UND fans' opinion on the future of the WCHA tournament is. Obviously we don't have a dog in the fight, but that doesn't mean it can't be discussed/debated. "What a bunch of UND fans think" is going to be what you get here.

  3. @SchlossmanGF: RT @smclaughlin9: BREAKING: BU's Alexx Privitera has been suspended for the rest of the season by the coaching staff.

@SchlossmanGF: Privitera is the player who hit a UND student in the head with his stick while in the penalty box earlier this year.

I guess karma made it's way back around to Mr. Privitera.

  4. Notre Dame, Michigan Tech, and CC's streams leave a lot to be desired.

Anyone remember Harvard's a few years back? That one was hilarious with the announcing. I think we beat them 10-1 in one of the games too and Zach Jones had a goal. UAA's is another that comes to mind as not being great but hey I'll take any webcast I can get to watch my team!

  5. That was 2011 and AA was an 8 and Minnesota was a 5. Hardly a monumental upset as Minnesota was mediocre at best that season.

You suggested a wave of 11 and 12 teams at the Final Five in the past five years which is absolutely not true. I am not saying that 11's and 12's have no shot at all but your statement was dead wrong.

You go ahead and measure your own duck...I'll pass.

    Hahaha

  6. SIGNIFICANT WINTER STORM POSSIBLE SUNDAY INTO MONDAY...

A SIGNIFICANT WINTER STORM IS POSSIBLE SUNDAY INTO MONDAY. THE EXACT TRACK OF THIS SYSTEM IS NOT CERTAIN AND WILL DETERMINE WHEN AND WHERE THE MOST SNOWFALL AND STRONGEST WINDS OCCUR. THE SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO TRACK FROM THE CENTRAL PLAINS INTO THE NORTHERN PLAINS ON SUNDAY... AND THEN SLOWLY MOVE EAST ON MONDAY. THIS WOULD SET UP THE POTENTIAL FOR HEAVY SNOWFALL AND STRONG WINDS ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE REGION.

SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN SUNDAY MORNING SOUTH OF AN AREA FROM VALLEY CITY TO FARGO TO PARK RAPIDS. THE SNOW WILL QUICKLY MOVE NORTHWARD BY THE AFTERNOON HOURS... BECOMING HEAVY AT TIMES. THE HEAVIEST SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED TO FALL ACROSS SOUTHEAST NORTH DAKOTA INTO WEST CENTRAL AND NORTHWEST MINNESOTA. WINDS WILL INCREASE SUNDAY AFTERNOON... AND MAY BECOME STRONG ENOUGH ALONG AND WEST OF THE RED RIVER VALLEY TO CREATE SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED VISIBILITY WITHIN BLOWING SNOW.

IT IS CERTAINLY POSSIBLE THAT TRAVEL WOULD BECOME DIFFICULT OR IMPOSSIBLE DUE TO THE HEAVY SNOWFALL AND REDUCED VISIBILITY. IF YOU HAVE TO TRAVEL PLANS SUNDAY INTO EARLY MONDAY STAY TUNED FOR FURTHER DETAILS.

It was already capitalized so don't blame me.

No matter what it looks like the drive home will not be pretty.

Glad I'm coming from Minneapolis and will hopefully be able to skirt around the storm going through Iowa. Drive safe everyone from ND.

  7. Nope. My premise that Blood is a hack is spot on. He lost a game so he decided to pick on the smallest Gopher he could find.

No, perhaps you forgot. Your point above was that Blood received a game suspension because he broke the rules and Rau did not because he did not break the rules. Then you went on to infer that because Blood received the suspension and Rau did not, Blood is the only player to blame in the situation.

As I said your premise for the argument is not "spot on". Dont' get me wrong, the premise was incorrect to begin with (because suspension does not equal blame) but the fact that your premise is not even true weakens your stance and your argument considerably.

  8. By saying both players deserve equal blame he is defending Blood. Wasn't Blood suspended a game by the league? Rau got no punishment nor should he have. We have no idea if Rau said anything, but even if he did thats not against the rules. What Blood did is.

Your comment is assuming that blame and suspensions are directly correlated which is incorrect. Someone can share in blame, yet not be suspended. Someone can not break these "rules" you speak of, yet still be blamed because of a moral code and things that are not in the holy grail rulebook you refer to.

I hope this comment does not make me a 'male Sarah Palin'.

  9. You're just clueless. You're a male Sarah Palin.

I like how you didn't even address the fact that you called him out on being biased when he said both things should not have happened. Instead you resort to juvenile name calling as a defense mechanism as a result of having nothing to respond with. That is what's "classless".

  10. This is very true. That first game was brutal. Last Saturday's was not bad at all and that was on a big screen. One thing I have noticed though is that as the tv gets bigger the picture gets blurrier. No DirectTV Friday means streaming time again.

I think that's the case for most pictures since the pixels are expanded and definition is lost, especially with the quality of the feed already being SD.

  11. Not necessarily.....the theory of spreading out your talent to have a more balanced attack doesn't always work as you are throwing different types of players together. The key is to score as many goals as you can while giving up less. By keeping your skilled players on a line with grinders I think you are decreasing your odds of scoring goals. Long story short....Grimaldi needs to play with better players. At least give it a shot, see what happens.

    Is that you, John Madden?

  12. I think we get 6 of 8 pts the next couple weekends which will set us up quite nicely down the stretch. I really feel like this team is about to breakout.

One thing Hak's teams tend to do is play tight, until the stretch run of conference play. Then they tighten up again in the playoffs. If they play loose, fast, and smart, I think they can beat just about anyone.

Definitely agree with this statement. I told someone on Saturday night at Mariucci that I thought this was the first time in a while I thought playing a wide open game favored UND over MN. It allows Rocco, Kristo, Knight, and Gleason to really shine and use their creativity. If they can just be more responsible in their own zone I think the sky is the limit for this team.

  13. It was easier for UW to hold open dates when they dont have 4 other in-state programs to schedule like we do. Big difference.

I feel like this keeps going in a circle. Judging by how exasperated and upset Lucia pet was getting, I think there's more to it than that. If it was that simple, Lucia wouldn't have been more emotional than PA has ever seen him in 10-15 years of knowing him. Instead it would just be a simple fact, but even the Minneapolis media is asking why keeping this series in the schedule was a priority and the answer keeps getting warped by Lucia. It seems pretty apparent that he wanted a break for whatever reason.

  14. Oh, you know you'd miss us if we weren't here. Without us it would be...

"I think UND is the greatest team ever."

"No I think they are even greater than you do."

"But I think they'll win 3 titles in a row."

    "Only 3? I see 5."

And so on. Our presence mixes it up a bit to give you a point to focus your hatred upon and increase the entertainment value for all. Right? ;)

So in other words, there would only be truth on the boards? haha

Lucia on KFAN right now. Charchian and PA hammered him with questions about Big 10 hockey, breaking up the WCHA, he got questions on "Why not OK for Sioux but it's OK for Fighting Irish"...deflected those questions by saying "ask the administrators, that's above my paygrade, ask the NCAA, etc. I'm surprised they're asking him some of this and not sucking his lollipop. Lucia sounds frustrated. Admits that his son going to Notre Dame had something to do with scheduling them. That's my very quick recap.

I just became an even bigger PA fan. He really got down to it with Lucia and didn't let his BS answers suffice. At one point Lucia got so upset that he literally stopped talking out of frustration. I'm glad that the message is loud and clear that it is not acceptable to take a 3-4 year break from this great rivalry.

  15. So I think regarding the Sioux-Gophers series the following have been determined:

    1. Hakstol has clearly stated that he has kept slots open for MN and wants to keep playing them

    2. Lucia has clearly stated that he doesn't believe the rivalry is healthy and thinks a break would be good

    3. Wisconsin has made sure to continue scheduling UND despite the nickname resolution so that excuse is out.

    4. The Gophers have a sudden interest in wanting to schedule in state schools for non-conference games that was not present while a WCHA member. A lawsuit has been mentioned as a reason for this, but no agreement on which said lawsuit would be based has been brought up.

    5. Neither team will be significantly affected financially if the rivalry is discountinued therefore neither team needs it more than the other.

In my admittedly biased opinion, it appears whoever is responsible for scheduling (Lucia and Friends) does not want to play UND or at least take a break. This doesn't hurt my feelings but (again in my opinion) it hurts the sport of college hockey and the potential it has to draw fans to the game by pushing great rivalries to the side.

If I missed anything or misstated something please let me know.
