  1. Admittedly, i know very little about him. Is he someone that is mentioned for openings oftern? Should he be?
  2. Naw....ill just commiserate with them. They had a coach sell them for years and fool them into believing in him too. We will all be bitter together.
  3. Oh, and seriously, people like pat micheletti need to stop trying to position this as anything other than a disaster for Mankato. This is.going reverberate in the fan base and take a ton to recover.
  4. There are no words. The two guys that built up the program are destroying it. 11 years of what now feels like lies. The big ten is going to kill college hockey with spending. It's not like football and basketball where there are bottomless pits of money at other schools. This should scare the piss out of everyone that we are losing a guy that should be a head coach to be an assistant.
  5. I dont really think so. There was no one that left that really surprised me. It's my understanding that each of the early departuresso far could have left last year. From what I've heard, it was so hush hush that his friends in Kato didn't even know.
  6. THere is a part of me that says Hasty did this now to help out Knott and Kato. Yes, it's a top 5 job in the country, so it's not the #1,#2,#3,#4 or probably #10 reason, but if he was going to leave at some point this is a good time. We've all been worried abotu Knott leaving just as much as Hastings. This give Kato the opportunity to hire him before he leaves and he's harder to get back. Worst case scenario is that Knott leaves and then Hastings leaves 1 year later. Then we'd really be up a creek. This is the best possible way for him to leave if he is going to. It sucks, but it's the life of a small school.
  7. What a gut punch of a day for Mankato fans. Top 2 defensemen leave yesterday. Pavel and Borchardt today. And to top it off, Hastings too. I hope to goodness the recruiting pipeline stays stable.
  8. Well, F***. I had a feeling this day was coming. I don't hold anything against him as I can't blame a guy for taking care of his family. This is just an indictment of college sports and the poison that all the money involved is. He's getting paid double the salary of MSU's president as the hockey coach at Wisconsin. If there is anything that's going to kill college sports it's the money involved.
  9. I'm not too proud to admit the petty side.of me wants to see qu vs bu in the final just so the big ten bozos have to quiet down a bit.
  10. If they don't bring in a proven commodity or at least a B10 assistant, I think their fans will riot. I mean, I'm cheering for that because it would be entertaining. I just don't think it will happen.
  11. I will genuinely be surprised if Hastings doesn't retire at Mankato. Never say never, but he and his wife seem very committed to being in Kato. When it didn't get past the rumbling stage last year with BU, I pretty much thought he'd be with us for the long haul. As far as Potulny...the NMU teams have underacheived so much under him that I don't think he'd even be a lock for MN. He's having a decent run over the past month and a half, but this season was looking like a disaster for him.
  12. I mean, that cuts both ways. They also won a game against MSU with an obvious hook that caused a turnover and a uncontested shot and goal. And then was named the NCHC play of the week. Bad calls have a way of evening out.
  13. This will be one of Hastings best coaching jobs if it turns around this year. He told one of the fundraising groups at the beginning of the year something to the effect of "judge us at the end of the year, not the beginning". We will see. This weekend was as ugly as I've seen since, probably, the Jutting years.
  14. I'd argue they are having a much harder time moving on from top end scorers. The goalie has been keeping them in games for the past 3 weekends. I believe 3 of the goals this weekend were.on odd man rushes and one came with a defender sprawled on the ice hurt after blocking g a shot. The top defenseman are taking penalties like no ones business and making bad defensive plays left and right and one of them was out for 3 games. Injuries are also a killer so far. The top goal scorer, sam morton, was hurt 3 or 4 weeks ago and is going to be out until after Christmas. Bennet Zmolek was on the all-rookie team last year and hasn't played a second this year and I'm hearing he potentially won't play this year. And the top recruit that was supposed to be a goal scorer hasn't played and probably won't until after Christmas. This is gonna be a season of taking some lumps, but the good news is we are still only 6 pts out of first with 2 games in hand.
  15. Haha...I fear the name would be flipped to the Dikman tournament too easily.
  16. Hows this for a fun idea? No I haven't heard this from anywhere. No I don't think it's on the horizon. Yes I would love it and think it would be a great idea. Yes I think it would be a success. Lastly and most importantly, I think one of the schools would kill it because it happened with the north star cup, but allowed to dream. I would love to see a "minndakota" tournament. There are now 8 teams in Minnesota and the Dakotas (UND, MSU, SCSU, UMD,BSU, MN, Augie, and st thomas). It could be set up as an annual tournament seeded by last year's results. The location could be rotated around the region or just be in the twin cities. The tourney could be set up to guarantee everyone 3 games so it wouldn't screw up anyone's schedule and short them of a fame for their season. It would be great for fans. And if its an annual event prople could plan yearly tickets like the old final five. I'm sure the players would love it. It would be greal for recruiting. It would be great for tv. The only problem is it would require 8 schools, 8 head coaches and 8 sets of administrators to buy in. Thoughts?
  17. Mankato loses McNeely, Carroll, Aamodt, Smith, Maass, Napravnik, Lutz and McKay. I don't believe any of them considered a 5th year if it was available. It sounds like a handful of additional guys had opportunities to sign pro deals, but decided to come back. There may be a transfer portal player that gets picked up (likely a goalie of there is one), but we haven't heard of any. I believe there are seven guys in next year's class. As far as why you don't see a ton of turnover in MSU, it's realistically because most of our guys develop while at MSU and aren't necessarily highly regarded coming in. Smith is probably the exception to that, but he was drafted on potential as he played high school hockey in Florida (and was a teammate of current Maverick, Lucas Sowder). Take a look at his high school stats if you want a laugh. As the program is having more success, that seems to be slowly changing. I saw online that there are three commits in the USHL that have a decent chance to be drafted. Guys also tend to stay longer because they legitimately love playing in Kato. Hastings has told a story a couple of times now that the morning after the national championship game, Smith called Hastings to see if he would come down to the hockey offices to witness his contract signing. At something like 8 or 9 in the morning every guy on the team showed up in support. They seem to really be that close of a group and it's not just for show that they are like brothers. I know a lot of people may roll their eyes at this, but Hastings has turned this into a Top job in college hockey. If it weren't for the fact that Bemidji played out of their ass in conference in 2017 (that was the year they played great in conference and couldn't win ooc), we would have won 8 straight conference titles. I know it's not playing the nchc or big ten schedule, but it creates an environment of likely going to the.tournament every year. Guys get to rack up wins, go to the tourney and develop into very good players. I believe if he wanted to he could have had his pick of jobs this year. I think Mankato has become very good job that many fans aren't recognizing. He gets virtually everything he asks for. He wins a lot of games. He practically walks on water in the community. It's a good place for him and the players to be.
  18. He's got 5 years left. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised of he ends up with an extension this year or next.
