  1. Mac is done, but it's OK to dream I suppose. An impact injury that requires surgery signifies a break/tear of some sort. I like the idea of moving NS up to the Parks/Poolman line. Then insert Simonson into NS old spot. Time to let the blue chipper show what he can do on the top line. Olson has looked good but he isn't a center and no way LJ sits. Simonson is small but gritty and he has what it takes to center a regular line.

  2. I made more than one post on that subject, and I remember vividly stating that I believed there would be some titles won by other schools throughout the state as well. Let's not deflect from the point, which is that the two GF schools combined have failed to win the state championship now three times in the past four years. It is time for people to drop the obnoxious/arrogant attitudes and stop acting like GF kids have the birthright to winning state hockey championships based on where they're from and what happened in previous generations. Regarding the South/Davies situation... imagine if GF opened a new school that took 75% of the hockey players from Red River. That school would have a good team, and Red River would still have a decent team. But neither one of those teams would be as good as what Red River was prior to the split. That is what is currently happening in Fargo, and one would have to be an ignorant fool to deny that fact.

Even with the new high schools being added in South Fargo and West Fargo, are the enrollments of the Fargo area high schools much different than the two Grand Forks High Schools? And during much of the time that the GF schools have dominated, Fargo South actually was far and away the biggest school.

  3. Sprig is right:

Dave K's exact quote in 2005.

And in the ten years that followed. "one hour to the south" has won two championships.

While "one hour to the North" has won half (5 out of those ten.)

    Don't pat yourself too hard.

And doesn't Fargo have an advantage with only needing one out of what four high schools, twice as many as GF. It's probably inevitable because GF just isn't growing like the rest of the state.

just for fun here's Nostradamus (I mean DaveK) the year RR and Central played in the title game (2005):

Hopefully Oxbow didn't eat all of that big helping of crow that DaveK tried to serve. DaveK might need some back.

  4. Few observations. 1) Dave Hakstol should be placed on notice.....he is no longer the only hockey coach in town that can't win the big one despite having the best talent. 2) The overall talent level of ND high school hockey right now is down, and pretty much has been for the last 3-4 years (the amazing Central group of Ladue, Johnson, Simonson was the last good batch). This doesn't diminish the Minot title as the talent level is down across the board. 3) When one town has had at least one of their two teams in the title game for what seams like the last 20-25 years, that still qualifies as overall dominance, but the gap has narrowed. Some is the west maybe getting a little better but a lot has to do with the Grafton's and Grand Forks teams falling back to the pack.

  5. As someone that has also worked in a position that directly deals with this area, I can say fightingsioux4life being naive. Lutheran Social Services gets funded based in part by how many of these immigrants they can bring over. Little concern is given to criminal pasts/backgrounds because in part many of the people come from places where backgrounds are next to impossible. Lutheran Social Services does help initially but then shortly dumps them off onto county social services. Heating assistance, housing assistance, etc is all in play. I have personally observed people from relatively good situations still collecting rent assistance 8-9 years after they settled. Yes it is true that not 100% of immigrants follow this pattern but it is the vast majority. I am not even going to sit here and pretend to say it is 100% right or wrong what happens, but rest assured, this is what is happening.

I want to be clear, that this refers to the immigrants that LSS more often than not targets from "disadvantaged" areas. Yes everyone was once an immigrant, how hard they worked and how well they behaved is what distinguishes them.

  6. Alot of times when EWU 'made mistakes' the UND defense was in good position. There were only a couple of plays where EWU missed on a play and the defense wasn't there to force a difficult throw. Other than the two long pass plays there weren't alot of breakdowns. Adams made a few special plays in tough situations that the defense defended pretty well but still got beat.

You can't expect a team to out of nowhere turn it on and play a perfect game. They took multiple steps forward against EWU which is encouraging. If they continue to improve on defense, which I think they will as Kuksa continues to play better with every snap, they could help the team win the majority of the remaining games. If the running game can get going and they don't turn the ball over on offense we could have a totally different team on our hands near the end of the season than the one we saw get stomped by the Montanas.

I think the whole point is that this team shouldn't be a team that has to out of nowhere turn it on and play a perfect game. This program should at least be at the stage by now where a loss like this to EWU is considered one of the one or two low spots of the year, and not one of the high points. I think this team will be lucky to split the last two home games with Northern Colorado and Sac State.

  7. So they didn't play with the most passion and effort of the year? The defense didn't hold EWU well below their season averages and do better than Oregon St? So you went from expecting UND to get blown out by 50+ to thinking they needed to shut them out for the effort to receive any credit? Keep moving the line.

Oh the line has been constantly moving for quite awhile but not in the right direction. The line has moved so far south that people are looking at a 21 point loss at home as a positive? Personally, it seemed like EWU was just bored during this game....almost like when a prize fighter toys around with a weaker oppenent rather than just knocking him out in the first round. EWU made almost no attempt to throw deep during the entire game, which has worked frequently against UND this year.

  8. By any reasonable standards, this team should be farther along than it is. Really, other than WR and possibly QB, are there any positions you can point at and say the team is stocked with legit D1FCS players? What happened to the days of the Mark Callahan and Scott Schultz beasts in the middle? Remember when the team used to send an occasional OL to the NFL? I am not convinced the coaches have the right players to work with, and of course that is the coaches fault.

  9. I realize this site isn't a rummage sale, but I thought this might appeal to the right Sioux fan. This is the same jacket that was given out as promo during Subway classic this year. It is a CCM Windbreaker style jacket that is perfect for Spring or Fall.....and warmer winter days if worn over a hoodie. On the front is a CCM logo and the Subway holiday classic logo. On the back is a massive Sioux head logo. All logos are embroidered. Here's the catch, it is a size XXL. I ordered from my buddy that owns a Subway not knowing that they run big. I am 6'1and 230 lbs. The length is about right but the jacket is made to fit a guy 250-270 lbs. I just want to sell it to a Sioux fan to get some of my money back out of it. I am into it about $70 but I am only asking $50 obo for it. It is brand new with tags. Text me at 701-740-3859.

  10. You should have seen how mad he was during a pep rally when they retired the Redskin nickname. He gave us all chills.

And my oh my don't ever make the mistake of referring to Central as CHS......CHS stands for Community High School, Central is GFC! He went ballistic at one of our pep rally's because he had heard some people innocently refer to Central as CHS.

  11. You do know that in general it costs more to be able to buy the tickets than the tickets actually cost?

Lower bowl you are right, upper bowl that is not the case. I have owned upper bowl season tickets in the past, and currently own lower bowl tickets, so I know exactly what they cost, even after donation. Looking at the schedule this year, there are 20 games that are part of the season ticket package (18 if you strip out the Regina and Russian Red Stars exhibition games for which tickets are extremely easy to come by). A season ticket package before donation is $390. Most of the upper bowl is $120 Century Club donation level which gets you access to two tickets. So $390 + 60 = $450. $450/18 tickets = $25 a ticket. Most single game tickets are $30 on up to $50 (Since they use tiered pricing for different teams).

Like I said, I don't blame someone for trying to make a little bit of money over what they paid, that is their right. But it is my right to call their request ridiculous. I suppose it is just like everyone else, people think there own stuff is gold but that other people's stuff is all overpriced ;-)

(btw Petey, you got any tickets to split :-)

  12. Some dude tried to sell me his Friday night tickets for $600 on Facebook....I kindly said thanks but no thanks. I can give you his name if you want to pay for his FSC donation for the last two years...

Probably the same clown from Fargo Craigslist. Asking $600-$700 for two Friday night only upper bowl tickets halfway up. Good luck with that. I am not against people making a little money because I know these things aren't cheap, but practically double face value for one night of marginal upper bowl seats?

  13. I would like to buy a partial season ticket package from someone looking to split. I need two seats, can be either for Friday or Saturday night (or they can alternate if there are some weeks you can make Friday but not Saturday, and vice versa). I am not looking to pay a premium and realistically I know I am probably looking at upper bowl. I wouldn't need tickets to either Gopher game, if the price is set accordingly for the remainder of the package. PM me with offers, thanks.
