Okay, so I couldn’t find the data set from 2016.....but I am working on getting it. 2017 numbers won’t be available until later this year.

    However, for 2013:

    85 public libraries in ND

274,797 ND citizens with library cards

586,250 uses of public computers (does not include WiFi counts)

    2,211,373 visits to ND libraries

144,531 hours open to the public

    398,033 reference questions answered

    13,434 library programs

2,642,897 items available for checkout (audio, physical, e-books, movies, and kits)

    4,215,264 items checked out.

Those numbers really aren't that great when you think about it.  I have a lbrary card......but haven't been into the Grand Forks library in the last 10 years.  Simple Google handles many more "reference questions" in a day than the library does.  As for the public computer usage......would be very interested to see how many actual unique users there were versus how many of those uses were repeated uses by a relatively small group of individuals.  Regardless, the numbers you cite don't justify a new library costing tens of millions of dollars.

Most annoying fan base around. Gave Hak no credit for making the playoffs two years ago, blamed him for last years poor season, and has given him no credit for this years turnaround. I want him to be well cause I really like the guy but I don't want the fan base to have any happiness.

Problem is Philadelphia is a major market.  1/2 of the teams make the playoffs every year.  His first year at Philly was solid.  Last year was not.  This year Philly is solid again but not great.  This isn't college where the locals will just keep patting him on the head and say wait til next year.  The results he has had would be fine if he was in Buffalo, Carolina, Florida, etc, but won't keep him behind the bench in Philly for long.

Ive always wondered if the city would ever re-do the charter and go to a Full time mayor position and eliminate the need for a manager and "government relations officer". Boom just saved the city 200k

What would Pete Haga do then???

LOL he stopped playing with two NHL players. Do you even LIKE this team? Try a positive thought every once in awhile.

We've had proven success of developing NHL and pro players over decades. Your example seems to be an outlier and a kind of silly one, I might add.

If he's truly an NHL player, he should have made those around him better this year.....just like Jost and Boesser did to him.  That didn't happen.

  5. For those assuming that the sophomore class will just automatically develop by next season.....Shane Gersich never progressed from his soph to junior year.  I wonder if he realizes that the puck bunnies on the AHL circuit are fewer and more worn out than what he had access to at UND.

  6. As for the argument about NDSU or UND having higher standards.....it's like arguing whether Grand Forks or Fargo has more mosquitos in the summer.  Both colleges have a very small number of programs that are tough to get into.  However, unless you are a knuckle dragger that still does homework with a chisel and a piece of slate, getting into either college is quite easy.

Can someone please explain to me and I am sorry if it has been discussed ad nauseum but did Brian Faison get fired or did he truly want to retire? What did he do? Budget deficit issues with the athletic department? Mismanagement?

There is at least one story circulating of a group of UND athletes having a photo taken celebrating an award.  Kennedy kept trying to get in the photo while Faison kept trying to pull him out since he felt it should be about the athletes.  Regardless of where you stand on Kennedy, no one disagrees that the man never met a photo op he didn't like.  Could be just a story, but is very interesting that soon after there is the infamous "paperless" consultant study done of the athletic department and Faison "retires" soon after.  Probably all just one big coincidence.

Not at all.........my point is lots of athletes/players look great in practice but that doesn't translate to game performances. From what I have heard UND has had a few of those the past couple of years.

Yeah but Wade Murphy just needed more time to develop.

AGAIN.... this is assuming our current players won't develop and that all of the freshmen coming in are EXACTLY what their juniors numbers are... this is such a stupid assumption.

Assuming that only members of the Sioux will progress during the off-season but every other team's players won't is the stupid assumption.

Agreed.... Hmmm... two of our best players are hurt.... both of which are centermen.... we played Johnny Simonson as our second-line center. No big deal... this team HAS to make the tournament with this. LOL.

If you wanna use the injury excuse, Western Michigan was decimated by injuries much worse than the Sioux were 2nd half of year.  Without those injuries (including a Hobey candidate) Western Michigan probbaly doesn't drop below UND in the standings.

What are the red flags? We have a bunch of recruits (stud D men, I might add) that we have NO clue if they are going to be stars. We all liked Hoff when he came in from the USHL and he's not yet lived up to billing. We've also had guys like Connor Gaarder come in and light it up as a senior. There's just so much assumption on here.

Connor Gaarder was a nice player, but he never really lit it up.  But since you brought him up, that is exactly the problem with the team this year and more than likely next year.  It is loaded with a bunch of Connor Gaarder skill level players (3rd/4th line blue collar players).  This team needs some juice and the scary part is several of the guys most capable of providing it were healthy scratches at the end (Hoff, Adams).

No one should leave the team yet, not even Wolanin or Gersich. Wolanin needs another year to work on his defensive game and if Gersich leaves early he’ll be an AHL lifer If he’s not going to be already.

If Wolanin stays I’m sure he’ll be the captain, if not then Rhett we probly wear the C. I wouldn’t mind seeing Jones be the captain but he should at least wear an A along with Poolman

Agreed.  Except Gersich at this point is more of a ECHL/Europe type of player.  He should chat with Jason Gregoire.

Meaning what exactly? Since when do you have to score a lot of goals to be a Captain?

You don't.....but being a captain means you are basically the sheriff of the team.  As long as people are doing their jobs you are in the background.  When they screw up (or start sleeping with a teammates girlfriend) you lay the hammer down.

He should stay because I think he has a huge opportunity to be a leading offensive player next year, especially if, as we predict, certain players leave. I’d put him in the top 6.

I agree......but don't underestimate the slap in the face effect of him often sitting while guys like Olson were logging PP time.

Keep this crap off the fan board. None of our business  regardless of the facts and too many rubes on this board know someone who heard something and pretty soon we are talking about it.  When you have 25 guys who are together as much as these guys are, they will have issues off and on. Team captains need to stay on top of relationships between teammates.  Happens on HS teams, college teams and pro teams. If we don't know that,  we haven't played on a team that spends this much time together.

This team was a dumpster fire behind the scenes this year.  That is absolutely pertinent to those that discuss.....follow.....and shell out alot of money to support.   Doesn't make any of them bad people......but team chemistry and spotty goaltending killed the team this year.

Yah, Rieger is getting crucified over his mistake when in all actuality, UND is lucky they even got it to overtime given all the grade A chances the team gave up and had to rely on Cam bailing them out. Yes, it was an incredibly dumb no look pass but he’s good enough to still be in today’s lineup.

Heaven forbid a senior "National Championship " caliber level goalie bail out a freshman.

Name them. And their department. And why they are integral to the university.

Law school, aviation, psychology........do your own research.  There is more to UND than figuring out if the football team will finish .500 this year with a true freshman or a juco transfer as 3rd string free safety.

can we stop with the "local heros" narrative?  It was a hockey game.  Talk about over the top...

Since there are only two real women's Olympic hockey teams there are only two places, first place and last place.  Congrats for pulling 1 out of the last 3 out.

Amazing how people are buying into whatever Kennedy says.  No matter who he cuts....what he cuts....what crony he turns around and gives the money too....how often he seems to be gone.....and even him clearly already looking for other jobs.....all he has to do is announce that "this is actually a good thing" and the public buys it.

Although budget cuts have stabilized, UND is still losing some of their best professors via attrition as we speak because of Kennedy.  The type of professors you just don't get back overnight.
