Can we get a numbers person to determine how many times in the last 10 years the number one overall seed won the natty. For that matter, how about the last ten years and getting a top four seed.

    Kind regards

    TwamleyShuffle

    Just based on my memory:

    2014 - Union, No - was a top 4

    2015 - Providence, No

    2016 -UND, No, was a top 4

    2017 - Denver, Yes

    2018 - Duluth, No

    2019 - Duluth, No

    2020 ——————

    2021 - UMass, No, I think they were a 2 seed?

    2022 - Denver, No, might’ve been a top 4 seed

    2023 - Quinnipiac, No, was a top 4

So, if we get 1 or 2 points tonight will they let fans stay until the SCSU v DU game is over, or maybe play it on the big screen?

How about score updates from Mr. Looker over the PA tonight?

I’m guessing since the SCSU/DU game is in St Cloud and starts at the same time as ours it will probably end around the same time. Last time in 2022 they did put the DU/Omaha game on the screen after our game ended in case the result ended in our favor though.

Not many goalies come into college hockey at 18 and have success. I would be surprised if we bring in Heil in the fall of 25 but it sure looks like that is the plan as of now.

I was just going to say this. I really don’t think there’s much of a chance he comes in 2025. The last time we brought in a true freshman at goalie it didn’t work out and it’s just pretty rare. I just find it to be a bad idea in general. I’m pretty sure we’ve gotta be looking for a guy to fill a spot until Heil is ready.

I’ve wondered about that too.  My guess in UND didn’t recruit him as I thought he was a UND fan growing up.

Berg committed to Omaha super early if I recall. I believe he was playing in the Omaha Lancers AAA program at the time so he was already in proximity to UNO. Probably could have gotten on UND’s radar if he waited a bit longer back then.

My bad on that - I assumed since other CBS' sports broadcasts (and CBS programming in general) are available on Paramount Plus, I assumed that what's available on CBSSN was also on Paramount Plus.

It’d be nice if they were…

Since it was the CBS SN featured game, I think the streaming option would be Paramount Plus.

If someone could explain to me how we can stream CBS games on Paramount Plus I’d love to know. I have Paramount Plus and I could not find hockey on there the last time UND was on CBS.

Why is the NCAA commitment line blank? I really hope that is an error.

I would be pretty confident that it’s an error. USHL also has had in the past Jake Schmaltz being Nick and Jordan’s brother and  Cody Croal as being committed to Maine. They’re notorious for being inaccurate/not updated.

Has each Penrose cup champ been a 1 seed in the NCAA tournament?

No. In the first year of the NCHC, when St Cloud won it, they were not a 1 seed. They ended up losing in the regional final to Minnesota, who was the 1 seed in that regional.

If he signs, he will never be seen or heard from again. He'll get buried on the depth chart in the AHL and won't get a sniff at the NHL. He is nowhere near ready for the next level.

Considering the Carolina Hurricanes do not currently have an AHL affiliate and their prospects are scattered among several AHL teams, it would make more sense for Blake to stick around until his readiness to make an NHL roster is more obvious.

I'm hoping we keep the pace and end up as the #1 seed in Sioux Falls. Assuming that happens, does anybody remember the protocol for when the #1 seed plays the first day? Is it the #1 seed's choice? Do they base it on attendance? I know the earlier game is better for extra rest, but with a day off on Friday, I'm not sure how much that factors in.

Pretty sure it’s mostly based on TV. So ESPN’s preference will be a factor. That’s why there was a push to get the off day because high seeds who should have been given the early game were given the late game for TV reasons, and then giving more rest to the lower seeds. I don’t think there’s any way to predict game times.

If there's even a slight doubt as to whether he's healthy enough to play, I'm betting he would sit this weekend as well.  Rest up and be 100% for the stretch run.

I think there’s no chance he plays even if he was close to a return. Especially with the bye week next week.

One of the requirements is achievements in Academia and showing great character on and off the ice. Vesey was a Harvard boy after all.

The problem with that is if the Hobey is supposed to go to the best player in college hockey the academic and off ice stuff should not be weighed more than on ice achievements. Seems like it was in Vesey’s case. 71 points vs 46 points? C’mon now.

  13. 15 minutes ago, TwamleyShuffle said:

Wasn't it Kyle Conner who didn't win the Hobey though he lead in most categories?

Yeah. That was when the committee decided to start giving out an award based on a career instead of the current season. In Connor’s case they gave it to Jimmy Vesey- he was a returning Hobey hat trick finalist but didn’t have anywhere close to the offensive production of Kyle Connor.

What does "Extra Skater In Warmup" mean? I've not seen that designation before. Are both Montgomery and Benoit active for tonight's game?

It means they don’t know if someone else is healthy enough to play so there’s another skater in warmups just in case.

Omaha seems to load up the front end of their schedule with a ton of home games against a bunch of cupcakes and then fall back to reality once league play begins. Go look back at their past handful of seasons, particularly under Gabenet and you’ll see what I mean.

That’s why I always question every year how good they are until about January.

A long way off yet, but would we guess that #1 would put them in Sioux Falls?

Kind of hoping for MO so I could also check off Gateway Arch Natl Park

Unless Omaha makes it as a 4th seed. Since they are the host in Sioux Falls. If that happens I’d see us in MO if we are the overall #1.

UND did NOT win in the 3 on 3. It went to a shootout so the game is officially a tie whether it’s 2019 or 2023.

Colton Poolman had the game winner in 3 on 3. It did not go to a shootout. Not sure where you got that from.

I might have misunderstood you, but it wasn't a sweep. UND won the shootout, not the 3v3 OT.

You missed the point. UND won in 3 on 3. Now, in the year 2023, 3 on 3 wins are considered actual wins. So if today’s rules were in effect back in 2019, it would have been a sweep.
