Wonder how many games Spicer would have worn a suit instead of a Nodak sweater?  More often than most is my speculation of the day.

Which is exactly why they wanted him to defer. His time and development would have been wasted if they brought him in this year, just to have him scratched frequently. He was behind Blake, McLaughlin, James and Strinden. And James and Strinden have been scratched quite a bit.

I believe that looks accurate but of those I think I would be surprised to see Singleton and Ausmus make it to campus and probably Hedquist as well.

    Why Hedquist?

He was the BCHL’s 1st star of the week and just set his franchise shutout record. Has a .951 save percentage in his last 10 games. Seems to be doing well up there.

If they don’t think he’s ready then they need to let him go now instead of continuing to string him along.

I’m not 100% but I think Calder’s decision to transfer was strictly an academic decision. Something about his degree / major not being available at und.

Calder graduated from UND in the spring so I am going to say that’s not true. I know he came to UND from Lake State and that might have been an academic choice because Lake State doesn’t have graduate degree programs and he was almost done with his finance degree when he got to UND. He needed a school with a graduate program if he was going to do a 5th year.

Not having a single defenseman recruit ready to step into what we thought was a good situation was frustrating, but not what I felt was disjointed. Wasn't DeRidder either. The Forward situation from my point of view was a mess. Started with no Forwards entering the portal the first few weeks. Decision to bring back both 10 / 19 which I think the majority on here questioned. This is just how it felt, but I didn't think Berry expected both to come back. When you looked at the second half of last years season, I would have told you that the 4th line was > Senden line. Guess what, this year the 4th Line > Senden line. The Spicer situation.  Is James coming in or not. Forward logjam. Budy taking another month after Calder enters to finally go. Back to my original post, felt like other schools had a plan in place right away. Didn't feel that way for UND.

It really seemed to me Calder definitely thought he was coming back. Though I have no inside information. If we hadn’t brought back Senden and Hain I wonder if Calder and Budy would still be on the team or if they still transfer.

I'm no goalie expert (paging @Wilbur) but I'm not sure DeRidder was a top 3 portal goalie spring of 2022.

I see Basse at SCSU and Kucharski (17-7-3 at AIC) at UNO as guys I was more interested in. And those two come after TJ Semptimphelter (NE'n to ASU).

DeRidder got offers from over 30 NCAA teams, including UNO. Kucharski wasn’t UNO’s first choice.

At first I thought you were suggesting this as a new line combo lol. But the reality of what it actually is happens to be much sadder than that…

Haha same. I spent way too long wondering who was going to be the center on that “line”

I thought Bast, Moore, and Sidorski had a solid 40 minutes until the extra minutes they normally wouldn't be logging started to show and we looked gassed in the third period.

Why do you think they were logging minutes they didn’t normally? I’d have to see the ice time stats. Moore was moved to the top pairing in Kleven’s absence, so I could see that, but the other 2 were in the same place in the lineup they usually are.

Reading Schlossman's daily article, you get the feeling based on Berry's comments that we'll see Hellsten on Friday. Really hope they go back to DeRidder. Clearly both goalies have not been good overall, but my feeling has always been, if that position group has any chance of turning it around, it will be DeRidder. I don't believe they can beat Western with Hellsten in net. Hope he proves me wrong.

This has been my take as well. Hellsten can get wins against more mid-to lower tier teams but I don’t think we can make a serious push to the NCAA’s if he's in net.

LU really earned alot of respect in my eyes this past weekend. I didn't know that they're playing like 90% of their games on the road. And they're playing hard. Zombo has done a pretty phenomenal job, IMO.

A question for those in the know: Is UND already scheduled to play at Lindenwood in a future season?

No, we weren’t even supposed to play them this year, since we were supposed to originally be playing out at Cornell, so I’m sure we didn’t have time to get a scheduling agreement put together. Wouldn’t be surprised to see it down the road though.

Anyone have any insight on Jaksen Panzer’s status? I see that he hasn’t been in the Sioux Falls lineup since December 10th. Injury?

Yes, he’s listed as injured on a recent line chart.

Well, Rinzel was a first round pick last year.  Things are so good for Motzko that he can send a first rounder to play his D+1 year in the USHL without losing him.

Didn’t really have a choice since Rinzel hasn’t graduated high school yet from what I heard

Agreed. Small sample size but getting a Tie / Win on the road against a decent team and moving down this past weekend was not what you wanted to see.

Western Michigan is a decent team but they weren’t that much ahead of us in the PWR going into the weekend so I’m not sure how much we could have moved up even if we had swept. Just gotta keep banking some wins.

According to WMU's website, Lawson seats 3667.

The Lunatics are very active. The PA guy is regularly addressing them by name. "Lunatics, it's time to get loud..."

They’re active but when I was there a couple years ago I couldn’t understand anything they were yelling…

Yeah loaded up with HEA and B10 teams for sure.  ECAC with only 1 but Harvard knocking at the door to join at #15.
And then MTU is the top CCHA team at #16 currently.

Still a lot of season to go but hopefully UND can get in there and join the NCHC teams and maybe some of the HEA and B10 teams will fall off as they play each other more.

I think there’s a good chance at least some of those HEA teams in particular fall off since there is a few close to the bubble.

Also WTF kind of world are we living in where MERRIMACK is a top 4 team in the PWR?

  15. 2 minutes ago, brianvf said:

Man if the season ended today, the B10 would have 5 teams in the NCAA (almost 6), while the NCHC would only have 2 teams in.

Haven’t checked today but last night in addition to the B10’s 5, there were 6 Hockey East teams that would be in the NCAA. Then the NCHC with 2, ECAC has like 1, Atlantic and CCHA just would get their auto bids.

Everyone is gone if they get scratched?  I'd hope not.  But who knows.
I'd hope they both stick around and keep getting better to earn more ice time as upperclassmen.

If they want to be in the lineup it’s on them to prove they deserve ice time and neither has done so.

There's been some concern here about the future, but if Perron and Swanson come as advertised and join Blake, this could be one fancy-ass team in a couple years.  Blake is absolutely slick enough to be a pro, but he needs to get a lot stronger, so hopefully he's still here.

I haven’t really been concerned about a couple years down the road, more concerned about the immediate future with incoming forwards for next year. But the Emerson commitment yesterday really helps for next year.
