We have some nice players coming in but these are the type of recruiting battles we need to start winning again - we need to get back to being a national power.

I think we can worry about our recruiting of high school juniors at this time as opposed to 10 year olds though.  :whistling:

To be fair he also chose it over Harvard. If you choose St Cloud over Harvard....well....

I read the guy’s commitment article and I read those schools (UND, Harvard, etc) as schools that showed recruiting interest. It didn’t specify “offers.” I mean he talked about how great SCSU’s facilities are. So I’m not sure he even took a visit to UND. But that’s just my interpretation of his quotes.

Anyone have a subscription to this care to share some of where the big recruits are possibly heading?

Don’t have one but if anyone was curious the subscription is $149 annually or $14.99/month.

It will be interesting to see how it goes with the really high end guys going forward, and I'm talking top 5 or 10.   I would be surprised if Fantilli stays another year, and some of the guys that stayed two were a result of Covid.  Guessing Cooley might be a result of Arizona's issues.  Regardless of those circumstances, I think that Makar has kind of opened people's eyes as to what another year of development can do to make you ready to not only enter the NHL but make an immediate impact.  Will be interesting to see how many follow that same path going forward.

Also I’d consider what has happened to some of the guys who did leave after one year, when quite a few of them clearly should have stayed for two.

    Ok. That makes sense.

At least that is close enough to Sioux City.

Its a bit of a haul to get from Heron Lake to SF.

Darn, Windom or Worthington missed out on a stud goalie then.

Right. I was trying to think of what high school programs near Heron Lake had hockey programs. They were in my high school’s section for track when I was in high school and were consolidated with Okabena and Lakefield and Brewster at the time.

Can anyone think of a player UND has taken directly from the NAHL? i cant think of any off the top of my head. A bunch have went NAHL to USHL to UND.

Matej Tomek came from the NAHL. Obviously he didn’t work out.

There has been some other non-goalies but most either didn’t play thru their senior year or they played minimal roles. I think UND is more likely to grab guys from the MJHL over the NAHL. We’ve gotten some good depth guys there.

These are my guesses; I'll save y'all from the rationale behind them until we're REALLY bored in June. :D

    16 Berg
    24 Johannes
    18 Perron
    28 Emerson

    7 Pyke
    20 Pehrson
    6 Britt
    25 Zmolek
    4 Wiebe
    15 Benoit
    3 Livanavage
    2 Komzak

    32 Persson
    30 Hedquist

One of these guys has his new number on his Instagram profile :whistling:

Are the top five centers Schmaltz, Berg, McLaughlin, Jamernik, and Ness?

Or is Perron ready to step in to the center spot as a freshman?

I look at that list of possible centers and it gives me hope that the plan is to move from the top six/bottom six mindset into a more modern three scoring lines, one grind-energy line, world. I really only see two "grind" centers (Jamernik, Ness).

Perron isn’t a center. Emerson is the one who could potentially play center but he played wing most of this season.

I actually don’t think eisermann will ever make it on campus. He had a big U18 year this year….he’ll explode next year in year 2 and he’ll be the 1-2 pick. We shall see if he ends up there.

I have my doubts also. I was thinking he probably should’ve accelerated and since he didn’t I’m not sure he ever makes it there.

I’m not a great hockey mind but thought Strathman looked really good.  Had a very aggressive style and is skilled with the puck.

Fun to watch the two of them.  Tickets are $10 and kids 12 and under are free for the playoffs.  Great entertainment.

I was at the game last night and I agree with your take on Strathmann.  Didn’t notice any glaring defensive issues but Youngstown played a good defensive game and Fargo really didn’t have that many good opportunities.

What do Fargo Force playoff final tickets cost? Pardon my ignorance and lack of using the internet correctly this morning.

    Lmk all - thx!

    $10 not including Ticketmaster fees.

Howard is a pretty obvious answer. Wodon claims he was expecting Persson to transfer to UND since January, so maybe he heard about something around that time.

He just assumed UND was going to get a transfer goalie and picked Persson as the likely choice. Lucky guess is all.

Him and Duluth media types have made it their entire personality to make cheap shots at UND’s use of the transfer portal.

Can I support aggressively going after a portal entrant? Yes.
    Can I support tampering? No.

It's a pretty simple, clean line that I hope Berry and his staff are smart enough to not cross.

None of the transfers UND has gotten this spring scream tampering. We had to recruit all of them. Most of the time I was told of a target, they didn’t commit to UND hours after going into the portal or anything. Most of them took a while to commit.

I know Bemidji fans accused Berry of tampering with Driscoll but that’s probably just angry fans complaining.

So what does this mean, and how does this affect them and college hockey?

Well now they aren’t restricted by Hockey Canada rules. Players can’t play out of their home province until they finish high school under Hockey Canada rules so now they can get players from wherever they want.

The NCAA really needs to amend the portal rules to not let it be a "free for all".  That's just going to end up hurting the smaller schools more and more as the "big" schools pluck talented players from their rosters...like a feeder system.

It'll be good once the 5th year "free" year is done, as that will make for less portal entrants.  Is next year the last year for that?  Or two more years?

Next year’s seniors are the last class that can get the free 5th year.
