  1. and the comeback we had to have vs michigan :) i dont fear anyone and ive always said that but looking at it realistically you never want to face a team in their home regional. just dont but if you have to then so be it and end cc's season with 3 other teams on the way to #8

and no i wouldnt call tech a strong offensive team, very strong in net though :D but i do think we have the best d core and goaltending in the nation!!

I didn't say they were particularly strong offensively, and you are correct to point out that they were not...but they were, overall, a strong team. They play the trap well, and make it tough to generate good scoring chances. I thought the Sioux beat them soundly on defense, which was pretty impressive. The Sioux defense has been great through this long stretch in limiting shots on goal, and that is a huge factor in their favor.

I like their odds as well as ANY other team going into the FF's. (Five and Four).

  2. thats the thing, if we end of 4 and 5 with us at 4 or cc at 4 then its off to the springs i think...oh well, kick ass this weekend and from there on

Don't fear for the Sioux at any of the regionals. This team is on a mission, and Hakstol teams chew through regional opponents, with the lone exception the Gopher OT game last spring (a great matchup).

Oh....and didn't they just hold Tech (a strong team imho) to 11 shots Sunday and 14 shots Friday?

That seems pretty mission-like to me.

    GO SIOUX!!!!! :)

  3. Looked around a bit for you but no luck. I was probably too occupied with my snout in those ice cream dishes all weekend.

Wow, the DECC sure has it all over The Ralph in terms of concessions, and concession prices. Although a bit of a dump after all these years,

still a great college hockey atmosphere and the students are alot of fun.

Anyway, I do hope to travel to the REA for Round I. I will probably be showing off some dance moves at The Diamond as well.

Yeah, the ice cream is good, and the price is right, but the DECC makes it too tough to get a beer! I look forward to an easier time of that at RAE.

    Ahhh....the Diamond...good memories.

Glad you are home safe and sound, the hills of Duluth have claimed a few fenders overnight. Hope the Hwy 2 trip was a safe one for all.

  4. It was a great college hockey game. The Bulldogs were flying. The place exploded after the Dogs scored for the first time in over eleven periods. The Sioux came up huge to first tie the game and then win it in OT. A solid win, and an impressive sweep, over a damned good Duluth club that was hungry and desperate for goals and points.

Another good lesson learned for the boys. What the heck. There is no reason to lose between now and the end of the year. Ten more wins. That'd probably set a few school records, and put this team at the top of the heap. The top of many heaps. It's gonna be a great rest of March and first twelve days of April.

I think you're right on. The mission continues, and I'm right there with you. I told a friend after the St. Cloud series in Jan. that we may have just seen the last loss of the season. Denver awaits those who work as hard as the Sioux did today, taking the game back from a team that I'm pretty sure felt they had the game in hand, and the momentum, when they scored that first goal. You are right, that home crowd noise was thunderous, but Kozek buried that enthusiasm in just over a minute by good, old fashioned, hard work. And the OT goal was more of the same. This team knows what it takes to win.

Sorry to miss you at the games this weekend, NDH....I was lookin' for you. Perhaps at RAE for Round 1?

  5. Hats off to the Bulldogs who did their coach proud with a hard defensive effort today. And way to go SIOUX!!!

Championship teams find a way to win when they fall behind....even late in a 0-1 game. A greasy road win, but a huge win nonetheless.

Great to see so many Sioux fans here in Duluth. Looking forward to seeing you at the RAE in two weeks!!!

    GO SIOUX!!!

  6. One of the best posts in this thread for sure...Lefty is the man!

And Lefty does have that silver medal from '72...he was no slouch between the pipes.

However, I'll always fondly remember Jon Casey and Steady Eddie as two of the very best to wear Green and White. Though JPL is growing on me. :silly:

  7. I'm headed out to the DECC in a few minutes, looking forward to another great matchup!

Coach Sandelin will have the dogz whipped into a good frenzy today...they'll be crashin' the net. Should give us some good breakout chances if we can catch them too far back.

It's GREAT to see so many Sioux fans walking the streets of Duluth this weekend! And the end of that anthem...a tribute to the warriors on the ice who enter battle for the next sixty minutes!

I'd love to see the "D" step up and deliver another shutout for J-P! 3-0 Sioux!

  8. As long as the Gophers play in the "the dance" I don't care who we play to get there. The ironic thing is the Gophers may play just as long as UND, not nearly as well for most of it. They just have to get there. It's the most wonderful time of the year.

AZ- what do you do as a profession? You are on here almost all day! :D

Just to be clear this weekend, I am rooting for UMD to lose, nothing else.

And some of us will be rooting for Anchorage to win! :D

  9. A little side tangent...blog entry about the UMD - CC series last weekend.

    http://www.areavoices.com/rinkandrun/?blog=21963

Mr. Sandelin was impressed with the Tigers, it would seem (and why not?).

It would be great to see a Sioux shutout weekend too, but I'll gladly settle for 4 points any which way. :whistling:

Looking forward to having a LOT of Sioux fans in town this weekend. The more people yelling "SIOUX" with me during the anthem the merrier!

    :D

    See you at the DECC!

  10. It's been pretty apparent for at least a couple months now that there isn't a player on the ice who can out-play TJ Oshie. I've heard TH say on the away game broadcasts that Osh is a man among boys. The home games I've seen merely confirm Hennessey's observation. He battles through checks, double-teams, holds, grabs and still manages to find a passing lane, to spot a cutting teammate with a pass.

Oshie should be playing in the NHL right now; he simply is that good and that dominant in his play. We are being blessed with a bonus every time he skates a shift for the Sioux.

This will be blasphemous but Oshie is carrying the team's bucket right now the way Jon Toews never did. Jon was quietly superb; TJ is like a one-man wrecking crew who no one can stop. His dominance does not show up in the scoresheets the way a Hobey winner's tend to.

But I ask, is there a better player in college hockey this year? And if you answer in the way I think you will, how does TJ not get the Hobey? Isn't the award to recognize the best player?

I've expressed my disappointment with TJ's

  11. I was at the game and while the Sioux did not, by any means, stink up the joint, they sure were not even close to being on top of their game. Bemidji played well, but not a 1-0 score well. The Sioux had 33 shots on goal, but very few of the "oh, darn, that should have gone in" variety, and not many of the "Wow - the goalie sure stole that one". It actually felt like Aaron had the majority of hard saves. I was very nervous the entire 2nd and 3rd periods because it just didn't feel like the Sioux were in control and every Beaver posession felt like a major threat. I'm VERY happy we got the win, but we will not get by playing like this the rest of the way out. Duluth is smarting from the spanking they got from CC this weekend and SCSU is playing for an NCAA berth so both will be coming out with all they have.

Having seen the UMD-CC game last night, I can tell you that the Sioux looked very much today like the Bulldogs did last night. Getting shots on net, but not "quality" shots.

That being said, every game is different, and a win is a win. Kudos to the Beavers for bringing their "A" game to RAE, and not showing any "quit" through 120 minutes of hockey. BSU will, when they get the chance, be a fine addition to the WCHA.

UND carries on, and now turns their focus to the Bulldogs.

    THE MISSION CONTINUES.

  12. Funny how this go. By the way when is the last time Frattin scored a goal. I though he was supposed to be a goal scorer. Same with Zajac.

Frattin's first couple of the year looked like a sniper at work...I'm surprised he doesn't have a dozen or so by now...
