  1. Have never been more proud of a Sioux hockey team...marginal talent and shorthanded, but more guts, character and grit than any Sioux team I've watched...ever.

Well I am glad I'm not the only one (or two) who feels this way. A tremendous, tenacious, "all in" performance for two and a half periods of hockey. This is not the most talented UND team certainly but I don't recall one that overcame obstacles like this group has. It's funny how a season can turn on one play, but I had to think as Kristo was lining up for the penalty shot, "If he buried this, we are going to win this game, get the points out if this series we need, and have a shot at the NCAAs. If not, well..."

Truth is, the Sioux were unrelenting for 55 minutes. In a personal house of horrors, mind you. Not only was it the. Est game to watch this year, but it was the best game "to watch" this year. NBCSN is a friend to college hockey and it warmed my heart to here them shower accolades on North Dakotas program...yes, even the commentary on how Kristo will be in Montreal next season. ESPN could learn a lesson or two from tuning into these guys.

Sweet win. Sweet, sweet win. Last five minutes be damned.

On to tonight. Is there another point out there? With this group, anything's possible.

  2. Cable One at 9pm on 307 with digital package...albeit likely JIP at 9pm. Here is a tip if u are a CableOne customer and have the box: you can call them today and ask to have the digital pack added. They will instantly add it. You can then call the next day, or Monday and have it removed. They will pro-rate your bill which amounts to something like 55 cents a day. Something to think about...

  3. No more Alanna Rizzo? She's now on mlb.com.

I think it was the Gophers series a couple of weekends back when they pretty much canonized her after the game. Gwoz gave her a signed goalie stick from all the players. "These past four years working with you have been special".

I waited her her to give a shout out to Sioux fans in Grand Forks but I guess they ran out of time.

  4. Schloss has been on the Denver bandwagon for sometime, even after CC took three points from them a few weeks back. Remember that he was also high on Duluth last year even after they had their late season setbacks.

Bulletin Board material for the UND lockerroom perhaps? :whistling:

  5. But if UND is a #4, you got to like the chances of playing Ferris State in St. Paul as opposed to BC or UM Lowell out East. Not to mention Michigan in Green Bay. This is one of the perks of UND (they travel very well regionally) so they will be an attractive draw.

I think Moy is spot on, If UND gets in and they're ranked 11-16, it's St. Paul boys and girls.

The only other scenario is this: I wouldn't be suprised (if Duluth climbs and Ferris falls) if they put the Bulldogs and Gophers in St. Paul and UND goes elsewhere.

Whatever it takes, I want to see North Dakota in action the weekend of March 23-25.

  6. More info on the TV front... Friday is on NBCSN. Saturday gets tricky. For Fargo (Cable One) it does show FCS has the game on 308 but only from 9:00-10:30 CT so it looks like it may be joined in progress. They did this with Michigan-Mich Stats two weeks back. It will be T H time for the 1st period.

  7. I've heard a lot about that lot behind DQ. Is there parking on the spot there?

I believe so, although we walked there. Sorry I don't have more info. It is literally right across the street from Tom Reid's. So if tailgating is a bust, you can always fall back on TR's.

  8. There is a lot in back of Dairy Queen that has a lot of representation from all schools. Tom Reid's last year before Frozen 4 was great. Lots of Sioux Fans of course, but some really nice Gopher, Badger, Denver, Tech, and even some BC folks. If I recall, the ones that were kind of arrogant were the Notre Dame fans. Didn't see any Omaha or Clown representation.

  9. Yeah three points isn't too shabby when you consider how nip and tuck these games were. No fluke goals, no questionable calls, just good, solid playoff survive-at-all costs hockey. Personally, I like the pitchers duel now and then. Tech could do us some favors the next two weekends and as I suspected on Jan 1, UND's NCAA fate will likely live or die at Magness Arena. These are huge. I know Fridays game is on NBC Sports Net. Anyone have a lead on Saturday?

  10. Michigan Tech is a program with a lot of pride and history. I realize it hasn't been a national power since the mid-1970's, but the fans in Houghton are a fun and knowledgeable bunch...

I am going to miss the "Ramblin'Wreck" from Tech gang. With their tradition, MacNaughton, et al, they should be in UND's conference. :(

  11. My only concern is Tech has made a habit this year out of winning the games they shouldn't have (see win @ Mariucci and 3 pts in Duluth) while they have been losing as the favorites. This, coupled with the fact that UND is in the middle of a Duluth/Denver sandwich makes for a dangerous weekend. Hope the boys are primed.

  12. What else is going on in town this weekend?

East Region Boys (and I believe Girls Hockey) is also taking place at Purpur Arena. March 2 and 3 will be an interesting weekend too. Not only does Minnesota State come to town for a twin bill in Men's Hockey, but the State Class B Boys BB Tournament is happening at the Alerus Center. Talk about a tough weekend to get a room.

  13. Mel Pearson, Jr. will be getting a great deal if consideration for WCHA Coach of the Year but I am guessing only if this team gets to the Final Five. Quick early starts will be the key in both games for the good guys in Green & White.

  14. We remain at 15th even with our split?

Not only 15th, but tied for 15th with Miami who owns the tiebreaker. With Atlantic champ added via auto-bid (a team who isn't even in Top 25 now), the Sioux are on the outside looking in.

  15. Black jerseys again

I know Schloss followed the black jersey record for a while. The Sioux didn't do much in them at Wisconsin and Minnesota this past fall but I wonder what the record is in Jan/Feb/Mar in those bad boys. Got to be a very, very high percentage. I know in April they haven't been that great :/

  16. The hockey only crowd will not believe Faison but they would believe Hakstol in a second.

Are the coaching staying mum on this issue because "they have games to think about"? Or did Hakstol/Roebuck get their hand slapped for being outspoken (pro name) in year's past? If memory serves, that occurred during the hockey offseason. Hak's silence concerns me a little bit. Anyone else or am I just overthinking this?

  17. I am going to play Commissioner for a moment, or perhaps College Hockey Czar.

Why not have both conference tournaments at the X the same weekend?

If both are whittled down to the Top 4 teams in each conference advancing to St. Paul why not a format like this?

Friday: NCHC Semfinals (5:00pm and 8:00pm)

    Saturday: Big 10 Seminfinal #1 (2:00pm) / Big 10 Semifinal #2 (5:00pm) / NCHC Championship (8:00pm)

Sunday: Big 10 Championship (afternoon game)

Think of it -- best case scenario: Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Wisconsin fans along with North Dakota, Duluth, Denver, and CC fans all in one place in one weekend.

Actually, best case scenario would be Minnesota at home, replaced by Ohio State.
