  1. True Bracketology sends BC and BU to st paul.....never will happen

I see UM and UMD being switchedabout

My first try....i see a trip east although GB is a possibility

    Northeast Worcester Mass

    1 BC vs 16 AF

    7UMDuluth vs 9 BU

    West St. Paul

2 Michigan vs 15 Mich State

    8 UMtc vs 10 Maine

    Midwest Green Bay

3 Union vs 14 Western Michigan

    6 Ferris vs 11 Denver

    East -bridgeport

    4 UND vs 13 Cornell

    5 Miami vs 12 Mass-Lowell

I agree with all but could see your entire Bridgeport and Titletown brackets swapped out. Michigan is likely going to St Paul and I can see UND-Miami both in Green Bay.

Waiting pensively for Jason Moy to post his blog on uscho.com

  2. Simply amazing come from behind effort. Part maniacal, part stunned. Let's not forget Denver has played almost nine periods of hockey in two days and go again tomorrow night. So glad I will be watching them at St Pattys Party tomorrow night. Fight On Sioux!

  3. If N. Dakota wins the Final Five and manage to lock up a top seed, what are the chances they will be in the West with Minnesota. You know, this loss could impact UM's first round game.... So rematch is still a stretch.

  4. "Looks like if Wisconsin wins we play them and if they lose we get St. Cloud."

Correct so this is what I suspect:

North Dakota vs Wisconsin would be a 3 vs. 6 matchup, likely meaning a 2pm face off on Thursday and Friday as the winner gets Duluth.

North Dakota vs St. Cloud St would be a 4 vs. 5 matchup, likely meaning a 7pm faceoff on Thursday and Friday as the winner gets Goldie.

  5. I don't get the suspense. Once UND makes the NCAA field will we know then?!

I can see it now, the day of the NCAA game vs. Michigan/Ferris/UMass-Lowell, half the people will be evaluating the way the Sioux played while the other half will be critiquing the uniforms. It will be like a freakin Joan Rivers Red Carpet fashion special.

  6. Just looking at how some other series could impact UND. Hopefully someone will more know-how than me can clear this up.

*(9t Pairwise) Miami vs. (12 Pairwise) Michigan State this weekend in the CCHA Quarterfinal Series. I'm assuming the Sioux can't lose in this scenario as they would likely move up since they face each other? One will move on while the other will have to wait out its fate.

*(16 Pairwise) Northern Michigan was eliminated from CCHA tournament so now they are waiting. You have to figure their chances are slim to none of getting into the NCAA.

*(21t Ohio State) ousted by Notre Dame last weekend so they are pretty much done.

*(27t Northeastern) not alive in the Hockey East tournment so they don't have ground to gain.

*Nebraska-Omaha is currently not in the top 31 Pairwise so their only hope of going to the NCAA is to win the WCHA Final Five.

*Many more teams will likely be eliminated this weekend so then we will have a better feel for things.

Bottom line, It looks like to me if UND advances this weekend and if the Big Four conference tournaments hold to form (1,2 seed wins the tournament), UND will be in no matter what they do in St. Paul. What will hurt North Dakota is if a couple of teams like Western Michigan, Cornell, Merrimack, Notre Dame, CC or Harvard gets hot and runs the table. Or does a tournament win by CC help the Sioux (a team that they swept this year).

"It was my understanding that there would be no math...."

  7. Thursday, March 15

Highest remaining seed likely Denver/North Dakota vs. lowest remaining seed - Time TBD, could be 2pm or 7pm

Two middle seeds (traditionally the 4 vs. 5 matchup) likely North Dakota vs someone UNLESS Denver loses to Wisconsin - Time TBD, could be 2pm or 7pm.

TV rules all so it's likely that they will go with the best TV/attendance matchup for the 7pm game. You would have to like UND's chances of getting the 7pm Thursday game if they make it to St. Paul.

    Friday, March 16

(Semifinal) #2 Duluth vs. Winner of the 3 vs 6 matchup (after first round re-seeding) - game time likely 2pm

(Semifinal) #1 Minnesota vs. Winner of the 4 vs 5 matchup after first round re-seeeding) -game time likely 7pm -- #1 usually plays at 7pm unless Minnesota is still alive. In this case, they are both so that pretty much means the Gophers will get the late game

    Friday, March 16

    7pm Championship Game

If other experts have conflicting info, please correct this rube...but that's usually how it plays out

    From WCHA Website:

Following the first round of playoffs, the six winners will be re-seeded No. 1 thru No. 6 according to their regular season finish and move on to the 2012 Red Baron™ WCHA Final Five, set for Thursday, March 15 thru Saturday, March 17 at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn. The Final Five winner receives the Broadmoor Trophy and the WCHA's automatic berth into the NCAA tournament.

  8. A good, solid, workmanlike effort by the Sioux. Let's keep the energy up, remain disciplined and go for sweep tonight. Brad was right... Lots of empty seats at the game in lower bowl. Weather was rough in GF from about 4:30 to 6:30. Kudos to the hearty Sioux fans who braved the elements to come out to see their team!

  9. The Class B is always a good time. It's a shame it's not "the last high school tournament of the season" as it used to be, but GF will be a good host. I'll be up for the Minnesota State-North Dakota hockey series so it will be an all-around fun time in the northern city.

  10. I think this week's Bracketology will have UND going to Worcester to play BC in the first round. True bracket integrity would have Merrimack vs. BC, which can't happen in the first round. I don't see them swapping Air Force & Merrimack since that's not fair to the #1 seed overall (Duluth). Here's my attempt for this week: Green Bay 3 Michigan vs. 15 Merrimack 6 Mass-Lowell vs. 11 Michigan St.

I think you are very close on this one. Wouldn't be so shocked for them to put that 8 Miami vs 10 Maine matchup in Green Bay and move 6 Mas-Lowell vs. 11 Michigan State out in Worchester.

  11. Even with Sioux loss tonight, home ice may not be "officially" clinched but they have to be close. Omaha and CC's loss has to help UND. So you have Omaha (27) CC (27), Tech (26) underneath the Sioux and CC and Tech play next week.

The only scenario that I see is if Minnesota State sweeps the Sioux AND St. Cloud sweeps Duluth....even then, UND and St Cloud would still each have 29 points and be tied for 6th/7th.

It takes a total collapse by the Sioux next week not to finish 4th. Even with a split it looks like UND will be 4th.
