  1. So many great talking points brought up in this thread...

MadScout03 made some great references to the particulars of the players, formations, etc. Have to agree on mostly all of those concerns. This no-huddle that uses nearly all of the play clock is not catching anyone off guard. The word "gimmick" comes to mind... :silly:

I have concerns with the coaching staff too - Mussman in particular. I have been fortunate to watch all of the Alerus Sioux games over the years from a great vantage point to see the coaches' interaction with the players. Past coaches could melt some great athletes with one cold stare. It seems that our athletes this year don't have the same fear of our coaches. I was particularly displeased with what was seemingly a "playground shove" from our head coach to one of his athletes during the last home game. Don't get me wrong - I am 100% in favor of chewing them out to get their heads in the right place, and generally doing whatever it takes to get them in the right direction. Just the fact alone that it takes physical interaction to do this tells me that A) The coach doesn't instill the fear of God into his players B) There is a lack of respect for one another on both sides of the clipboard.

I can be honest and say that I'm completely frustrated by the season thus far - perhaps that is weighing on my opinions.

But I can also be honest in saying that I don't like what I see thus far - and unfortunately, I don't expect anything to change very soon.

*Saw Dale Lennon mentioned on this thread a few times too. Anyone else besides me think that Lennon gave his ringing endorsement to Mussman only to ensure that he could secure Schweigert as his DC, and not have to worry about him applying? That, among other things, has been bothering me for the past few years. Loved the guy as our coach, but really think he screwed us over when he went southeast.

  2. I heard the NDSU President on the news last night and he said that concerning the audit all the expenses were justified. (they just look bad) After reading the paper this morning if those expenses were justified than we have another Joe Chapman on our hands.

He sure has a different opinion on KFGO right now... ;)

  3. The Ralph, well what can you say, it is very civilized.

I don't know - the last couple of years (last year especially) it seems the Ralph is coming into it's own a bit. For the first time in a while, I'm starting to believe in a home ice advantage. Sure you'll have your stinker games now and then, but I like what I've been seeing lately.

  4. I don't think that factors in because the rating seems to be based on unemployment, foreclosure and bankruptcy statistics.

Crap. Here I thought the County had some money to fix the roads near my home. :D

  5. My wish for 2010-11 is a National Championship.

That's it. Nothing more, nothing less. I don't care if they use a bunch of 25 year-old Canadians, small speedy guys, a whole line of goons, whatever.

Number 8 has been eluding many deserving teams for too long in recent years - to the point that I'm thinking a jinx is upon us.

    Please. Hang #8.

  6. ...anybody criticizing hakstol's performance in his first six seasons as head coach will likely only be happy if we get a coach that wins six national championships in his first six seasons as head coach. good luck finding that guy.

But it'd be pretty cool if we did! Right? Right?...

  7. Wow... you spent some time on this. While I like to "step away" from the board when my team is not playing their best, I wouldn't call out people who are venting their frustration. I doubt any of them claim to be experts; just a bunch of hockey fans being grumpy because their team is losing - I don't see a problem with that, I guess.

If we were all blowing sunshine up the team's butt all of the time, it wouldn't be half as fun reading the posts.

  8. I hope this controversy and suspension doesn't take Frattin off his game. He's been on fire. And by "off his game," I don't mean head hunting. That is not his game--scoring and playing with intensity is.

The real prize starts with regionals. Anybody else have mixed feelings about this team coming off a three-game weekend and then playing three more at the FF followed by another short rest before the biggest weekend of the year?

Or am I just another pussy?

I've been mulling this around too. Now don't get me wrong - I want the Sioux to win. I want them to get the trophy. I want to keep pushing ahead, and maybe squeeze into the last 1 seed.

But if they lose thursday night, send everyone home healthy, and get some rest for the regional - I am way cool with that too. My young son asked it best: "So the Final Five is a way for the crappy teams to get into the NCAAs, but the good teams are already in?" Out of the mouths of babes........

  9. Frattin went public with his desire to make a big hit. Lammy went public with his desire to throw down with Marvin. I'd suggest the players keep their mouths shut from now on.

I agree on the keep the mouth shut thing... doesn't bode well from a PR standpoint when you injured the guy. (whether there was intent or not)

Aside - I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Frattin's hit likely won the game for us. Up until that point, the good guys looked like they were dragging arse. After the hit, the crowd was into it big-time, and the Sioux showed some go. Throw in the injury to one of their guys (not gloating - just stating facts for you sympathetic types) and the fear of getting nailed to the glass; the gophers pretty much looked they all got punched in the stomach. We owned the ice after that hit.

My Point: Frattin made the hit to fire up his team, and demoralize the opponent; not to injure anybody. Anyway, it worked. And yeah - he went full steam ahead, on the gas through impact, deserving a charging major, IMO. My jury's still out on the suspension. Don't think it was warranted - not surprised it was given.

The injury aside - I'm a big fan of punishing hits and hard nose hockey. I'm a Sioux fan.

  10. Airmail,

What aren't you getting? If scalping is illegal, then you are doing something illegal, nothing different than selling crack. It might not be morally as wrong as other illegal things, but nontheless illegal.

I saw your post earlier, and looked up the old house bill. I also posted on here a question whether the bill became law... as of yet, I don't have a solid answer. Based on NDCC 51-07 (as pointed out by 82SiouxGuy) it seems this bill perhaps wasn't made into law. Just like the house bill to make the Sioux and Bison football teams play each other - as good as the paper it's printed on; nothing more.

With all due respect, don't tell me I'm breaking the law without identifying the law that I'm breaking... I guess that is "what I'm not getting".

  11. So since I'm not going on Saturday...

If some guy that knows my seats says "Hey, you've got great seats and I know you're out of town. I'll give you a hundred bucks a seat to have your tickets for the Saturday game" that makes me a bad guy if I take it? Do I tell him, thanks for the offer but I'm morally obligated to sell for face value even though you're perfectly able and willing to shell out a lot more?

I'm not greedy, but I'm not stupid either. If someone makes a killer offer to me, and I'm not going to the game anyway - I'll take it. If they want to pay a premium price for what they percieve as a reasonable value for the entertainment they will enjoy, I'll play ball. And as far as the face value thing goes, my face value tickets came along with an extra $1100 donation price tag.

If you want to make sure to get your first round tickets for next year for "face value", join the Fighting Sioux Club. They could use your support.

For the record, my tickets are already given away to my parents and their friends for the Saturday game. They are not for sale.

  12. If anyone is that upset about this gouging, forward the member names that have listed them on here, to the GF police. Selling tickets for more than their face value plus a small handling fee is illegal in ND.

    HOUSE BILL NO. 1058

I saw the bill was introduced; did it ever make law?

  13. Although I may not be sitting in the middle of it - I'm firmly aboard the bandwagon.

If we could just get 100% healthy, I really belive we could make a run. It's not like we're getting our butts kicked night in and night out.

(except for one game in particular that I'm still having a hard time accepting...) :D
