  1. I'd love to see the video of the last couple plays of "the drive" complete with Ed S.'s play by play.

I'll never forget the people in my house for the football game going absolutely nuts during those plays. Ball is snapped - 20 people sitting down in their seats, secretly praying that we keep the ball moving... by the time he was tackled, 20 people were all standing within inches of the tv screaming, cheering, spilling beer, high fiving and God knows what else. After the touchdown, it was was mayhem. It was absolutely incredible.

Congratulations to the 2001 team - you really made us proud to support Sioux football.

  2. I'm going for UM. As far as I'm concerned, NDSU football fan = UM hockey fan in terms of arrogance, negative disposition, self-importance, and general unlikeability. I'll do the "Cheer for North Dakota" thing for other sports, but not football. I hope (although I'll concede that the game will likely be close) SU gets their butts handed to them.

As for me and my house, we will hate bison football.

  3. I want an absolutely ridiculous, throat stomping, over by halftime, BHS players are crying and their moms are on the field trying to comfort them, Sack City poster needs another digit, student section plays beach ball with the mascot head, BHS coach is stomping on his clipboard, inconsiderate crushing by the Sioux. That's it.

    196-0 Sioux.

  4. I also think that we've adjusted poorly at half time under Muss' tenure. Any box score data that supports that opinion, or are we letting our emotions sway the facts?

  5. Offense: Same undisciplined unit we've watched the past few years. Too many stupid penalties. Same lackluster playcalling except for a hurry-up play that got us a first down. (and one toss down deep that I thought was going to pay off - looked like Harmon got a little held up) Some good running and passing off and on - lots of TERRIBLE catch attempts. Jeez-louize.

Defense: What can I say - they held them scoreless. It sure seemed, though, that Drake could gain 5-10 yards pretty much at will with the pass. Again - dreadful flashbacks of last year.

Special teams actually looked pretty good.

So we won - 50% of teams have a losing record after the first game, so I guess I'm happy. A 16 point sloppy victory isn't quite the springboard I was looking for.

But what the hell - we're undefeated. :D

  6. Lots of good comments. I agree we have an opportunity to get a good win and we HAVE to take advantage of it to start to wipe away last year's dissapointing season.

  7. Do not foget you are talking about the sioux who are known for their goal line stands. Including so against south dakota, and Cal . the last few years.

We've always been able to pull off a few goal line stands; it's true.

The secondary doesn't have to play off the line so far because there's no threat of getting burned deep... giving them proper positioning to defend the pass on a short field. And our rush defense will generally hold their own anyway.

I think the short field contributes the lion share of the goal line defensive success; at least more than motivational tactics by the staff, anyway.

But hey... my glass is half empty. ;)

  8. Like I said, cautiously optimistic about this football season.

I sure wish i was with you; just can't get my head around the many disappointments of last season. And the "pistol" - for heavens sake, don't get me started on that one! :glare:

I'm sure I'll come around mid-season, but right now, I'm a solid "regretfully pessimistic."

Please, Sioux Football, prove me wrong! ???

  9. I keep hearing that the reason SCSU wasn't asked to join the others at the table was their stance on the nickname. I can't see that being a reason for not being invited to the NCHC.

Maybe not - but I do like the fact that their PC tongue-lashings and "holier than the UND heathens" attitude over the past few years is not being rewarded. It's kind of like peeing all over your neighbors living room floor and then wondering why you didn't get invited to his super bowl party.

  10. krangodance makes some great points about closed threads, and why they shouldn't be closed. I guess I'm on the fence on the subject.

From what I've seen here over the last number of years, threads get closed when the information turns stale. When nothing new is brought to the table for discussion, we generally end up watching a urinating match about some tangent of the original discussion. These, of course, usually end up in a stalemate - in turn leading to more pointless urinating. When real substance is no longer present in the thread, I don't have a problem seeing it shut down.

FWIW - It's Jim's site, and it seems to me that he wants to maintain a certain level of decorum here - and moderates topics accordingly.

    Who are we to disagree?

  11. HowBoutThemBison? isn't my favorite poster on this forum, but I think he's closer to being a realist than many of you are giving him credit for. (nonsensical posts, of course, aside) I've fought this nickname fight vocally and financially, and was heartbroken when it took a path I didn't like. The fact is, we settled our suit. We didn't meet the terms of the settlement to keep the name for reasons I'm too frustrated to discuss. Now, the johnny-come-latelys are bring the fight back and making UND look like a pack of fools. WHERE WAS YOUR SUPPORT WHEN WE NEEDED IT? WHERE WAS YOUR ACTION WHEN WE NEEDED IT?

    NEWSFLASH: IT'S TOO DAMNED LATE!!!!

Good piece by another vocal supporter of the nickname - I share his sentiments almost verbatim:

I do know one thing: It is time to put this issue to rest. We have squandered too much time, money and reputation on this fruitless fight with forces beyond our control.

  12. Exactly, other than the fact that Yale might get a high seed, not playing a high level of competition on a consistent basis should hurt them in the tournament, right? On the other hand, they beat us last year, so what is our excuse. We don't play Bowl games at the end of the year, so I don't know why everybody gets so worked up about polls and rankings. If you listened to a lot of people on this site, you might believe the Sioux haven't played anybody good either, because if Duluth isn't good, then who exactly is.

    Yes, yes, and yes.
