  1. I am a collector of foreign hockey jerseys (particularly Russian and former Eastern Bloc countries) and have a contact who is an importer for Kait, one of the primary jersey makers (along with Lutch). He had a LATVIA jersey on the shelf and gave me a good deal on it about a year ago. ZOLTOKS is the name on the back, Zholtok in English. Along with Arturs Irbe, easily one of the most popular players in Latvia. Most Latvian hockey players were scooped right up in the Cold War and shipped to the Red Army team in Moscow. Zholtok (and Irbe) proudly represented their own country after the breakup of the Evil Empire. A sad day for Latvian hockey indeed.
  2. Diggler, surely you can't be serious? The coolest mascot in the country is by far Sebastian the Ibis from the University of Miami Hurricanes. I remember back in 90 or 91 when Miami played at BYU and a player was tackled out of bounds. The dogpile rolled over Sebastian's leg and the "mascot" broke it. He was in full uniform next week for Miami's home game...sitting on a chair with a giant cast on his leg. It was hilarious. The best Goldy can do is hope for fans to scream "spin your head?". Pu-hlease!
  3. That's the trend in sports, today, redarmy. No one gives out actual attendance figures anymore, they just count tickets sold as actual attendance. The Xcel Energy Center is a good place for this...they had a consecutive game sellout-streak snapped this past season, but trust me, on any given night, there are tons of empty seats and the same 2-3 scalpers outside peddling off hundreds of tickets.
  4. The yellow jerseys the Mavericks wore Friday night were a throwback tribute to their 1980 championship team. Garish, yes, but still better than their current yellow jerseys. With all due respect, I just don't think the colors purple and yellow work on a bull.
  5. Duly noted, WPoS.
  6. MSU New Maverick Didn't notice any new logos around the MWCC this past weekend. Hopefully they do something about those absolute atrocious hockey jerseys that their team wears.
  7. Aw, come on, WPoS, I thought it was funny. My apologies if you didn't.
  8. Yea, Mrs WPoS tells me all the time about her husband's hockey trips.
  9. I was at Saturday's game and my theory on Greene is the same as it has always been. With 20 seconds left before the end of the second period, he takes a stupid penalty. With 2:43 left in the game, he AGAIN takes a penalty. Nice timing! On a funny note, I did make some fans in section 219 chuckle. Prpich had a shot from the slot that almost hit the scoreboard about 50' in the air above and to the left of Volp. On the very next shift, he again cranks up a slapshot on the fly and almost nails the scoreboard again. He shook his head and skated away and I couldn't resist my window of opportunity: "Hey Prpich...is that stick regulation size or what?" Seriously, it looked like the shot from Happy Gilmore where Adam Sandler shattered the plexiglass in front of the coaches as they stood in the upper deck of the arena. On another note, was anyone else surprised at how many empty seats were left in the MWCC? I believe there were 700-800 vacancies. Kinda surprising, I thought.
  10. Aftershock81, If you can get ahold of a couple of glasses for me, well, we can work out something. Hope you don't have a welt on your head, Ghost of Smith. Ha!
  11. Sioux REA glasses at Applebee's? Yea, I remember that being mentioned that you could pick them up after a game I attended. We rushed out to Applebee's and the staff there didn't have a clue what I was talking about. The manager finally came to talk to me and told me to "stop back tomorrow." I told him I was leaving right then to head back to Minneapolis and he took my name and address and promised to ship me a set when they arrived. Surprise, surprise, I'm still waiting for them. Nice promo.
  12. Do you sleep in your car? I have my tickets for UND/Tech...now I need to make that hotel reservation.
  13. New SDSU Logo vs Old SDSU Logo Here's the new vs old logo. No question which is better.
  14. ESPN Picture/Article on SDSU Logo Change
  15. jloos, You're incorrect about San Diego State's use of the word "Aztecs." Actually, there has been a lot of controversy stirred up over the use of the nickname and Aztec logo. I believe SDSU has discontinued use of the Aztec logo while retaining the nickname as part of an effort to slow down the "change the name" groups working against them. The name stands, but you don't see any Aztec warrior logos around anymore, unfortunately.
  16. Good grief, WPoS, what do you seel meth out of your basement to help fund these road trips or what?
  17. Goon, I totally agree with you on that regard, except that I am pretty certain you mean anything less than a Sioux sweep is unacceptable.
  18. Cue the SNL skit of VH1's Behind the Music: Blue Oyster Cult... I GOT A FEVER...FOR 'DAT COWBELL!
  19. I dunno...maybe it's just me, but I feel dorky wearing a hockey jersey when no game is going on. It's kind of like being the guy on the street wearing the Culpepper jersey the day after the Vikings get their butts handed to them. Or wearing a Favre jersey yesterday.
  20. Once a Sioux, always a Sioux, Benny. God bless.
  21. On another note...red bull avatar or bouncing cartoon boobs...I can't decide. Maybe Jim will help me out again.
  22. I don't necessarily think it's just a Sioux thing...it's a North Dakota thing. Three weeks ago, my softball team was in St Cloud for the State ASA co-rec fall state tournament. I'm in the hotel lobby area eating some breakfast before our game and notice a guy sitting a few seats over. His hat has a big eagle on it...not unlike the South Heart High School eagle logo. He turns around and on the back it says "South Heart" on it. Still not convinced, I notice the bill color is maroon. I walk over and introduce myself. Turns out he's the principal of SHHS and his son is in Milaca for a high school cross country meet. I went to high school in Belfield, 9 miles from South Heart, our natural rival in boys basketball. I'll wear a Sioux sweatshirt or t-shirt out anytime, but a hockey jersey? C'mon, guys, that's game-day wear only.
  23. I'm driving my car the other day westbound on Shepard Road and glance over to the car next to me in the left lane. Obviously hoping to see a Russian blonde hottie flashing me, I am clearly disappointed when it's not the case. However, I did a double-take as I notice the male driver sporting a Fighting Sioux hockey jersey. I laughed out loud...was it Friday and I'm late for the game in Mankato? No. He couldn't find his Nomar Garciaparra jersey, so decided to wear his Sioux jersey to Old Chicago to watch the Red Sox play? No idea. Who was this Sioux fan and why was he wearing his jersey on a Tuesday afternoon at 5:00 pm? My money says 3-1 shot that he's somewhere on this message board. Any Sioux fan wearing his jersey out and about on a weekday has to be.
  24. 219 Row C Seats 4 & 5.
  25. #19 green DiNunzio jersey. See you Saturday.
