  1. "The gun is a tool just as a hockey stick is a tool. It's very specialized, and used by a trained person in their craft." If that isn't a comparison than I have no idea what is. The tree that I am hugging? I have to take my arms off of it to type? You are hilarious. BTW, You are quick to respond today. I didn't know they had internet access at The Bun. For the record, I am a republican. I have been hunting before. If someone chooses to have a gun in their home then I have no problem with that. All I am saying is, I do not believe they should have a place on a University campus.
  2. Your arguments are horrible. You just compared a hockey stick to a gun. Nice work. You convinced me. What comparison is coming next? A tootsie pop is the same thing as a hand grenade.
  3. When did our society turn into a "kill or be killed" mentality? It is almost like we have regressed back to the 1800's and the Oregon Trail is no longer a video game, it is reality. I will ask again...Is the "right to bear arms" worth risking someones life? Your family? your friends? Is it worth it?
  4. Did it ever dawn on you to call the police and have them come out to your place? Listen, I am not saying you don't have the right to defend your family. I am not saying you can't have guns at your house. All I am saying is they do not belong on a college campus. The University of North Dakota is not Dodge City, KS. Kupchella is not Wyatt Earp.
  5. You raise another good point. I can't say I disagree with you here. There is never going to be a version of this ban that is going to effect everyone the same.
  6. Yeah you're right. Let's give everyone on campus a gun just in case the worst massacre in American History happens that day. 13,000 guns on campus would make me feel safe and secure. Did you ever stop and think that this rule could very well stop the next Virginia Tech? If this rule comes into play and the killer is caught with the gun before he/she has a chance to use it, would this rule still be dumb and unconstitutional if it saved lives?
  7. I believe the comparison between firearms and that of automobiles and kitchen knives are apples and oranges. Automobiles are necessities in everyday life. You need your car to go to work, school, etc. Yes they have caused deaths but realistically you can not get rid of everyones car. Kitchen knives are necessities in a restaurant kitchen. You can't be a chef without kitchen knives. On the other hand, you, me and 99% of all other Americans can get through there day without needing a gun. The 1% being police officers. Guns are wants, not needs. Cars and kitchen knives are needs, not wants. You do raise a good point though. There is not a reasonable way to police this other than making a stiff penalty for being caught. Bottom line: we should not put up a big neon sign that reads "come one, come all. guns are welcomed and encouraged on UND's campus!" And if you are using the hunting reasoning as basis for your argument then I ask you this...When was the last time you saw a 10 point buck drinking out of the English Coulee on campus and say "Damn, I wish I had my gun with me!" If you are going hunting, go home and get your gun first. Leave it off campus.
  8. Airmail, thank God we have not had to witness any tragedies of that nature at UND but neither did VT before their massacre last year. We have to take precaution now to try and prevent something ever happening. Bison Dan, you are right. If someone has their mind made up that they are going to harm someone, it is pointless to try and convince them otherwise. That being said, we can't just sit back, do nothing, shrug our shoulders and say "eh, there is nothing we could have done anyway."
  9. I will agree with the fact that if someone has their mind made up that they are going to shoot people on campus, they are going to find a way to do it. So why make it easier for them if there is a gun readily available in every room on campus? If there are strict laws and gun restrictions put into place, the killer might be stopped somewhere in the process of acquiring a firearm. Another thing to think about. Someone is cleaning their gun because they are going out hunting the next day. Somehow the gun goes off and accidentally kills the roommate or someone else in the room. Is the "right to bear arms" worth the risk of someone being killed? Hopefully everyone will answer no.
  10. You bring up the Virginia Tech incident. By making a gun acceptable in every dorm room across campus, wouldn't you think that would make it easier for a mentally unstable student to get a hold of a gun and recreate the VT incident? If gun control was more strict in this country the killer at VT probably wouldn't have been able to get his hands on a gun. You also bring up the safety issue on campus. UND is located in Grand Forks, ND, one of the safest communities in the union. Not to say we should be ignorant and say it couldn't happen but UND's campus is not located in south central Los Angeles. I hardly think it is necessary to arm every student on campus just incase a massacre happens on campus. They ban alcohol and drugs in the dorm rooms but not firearms? Tell me how that makes sense. Guns don't kill people, people kill people? well then let's legalize drugs too. After all, drugs don't kill people, people kill people.
  11. Remember when High School Hockey meant something? Ever since the USHL started to cherry pick the best players out of North Dakota HS Hockey, the talent has become watered down. I believe there should be an age limit that only allows HS seniors to leave for the USHL if they so choose. Leaving HS when you are a sophomore to play in the USHL is ridiculous. They are still kids!
  12. I will admit, South football is a great program. They are not overrated in FB. My comments were more directed towards hockey, tennis, basketball, etc. I may be biased as I am from GF but it seems everyone is looking at South to always do great things in hockey, tennis, etc and all the GF teams do, RRHS in particular, is win state championships. But I will admit, South football is a good program.
  13. you might disagree but I think Poppolinos is some of the best Pizza in town, with the exception of Happy Joes. Hard to beat their lunch buffet. Now if Shakey's was still around, they would take home the trophy for best pie in town.
  14. My comments were still talking about tennis but now that you bring it up, South is the most overrated school in the state. In every sport. Case in point, hockey.
  15. You do raise an interesting topic with your selections. Rich Glas is an interesting selection. I am not going to to say he would be the best candidate because he has no AD experience, but I bet he would like to make a move back to Grand Forks.
  16. This is not a popularity contest! Dean, although an excellent hockey coach, would not be good in this situation. You need someone with experience! You can not have someone with no AD experience, come in and lead an athletic department into D-1. Ray Purpur would be my first choice Rob Bollinger would be my second Both would do a good job I believe.
  17. In my mind, all this does not matter. Buning's job performance was not where is should have been. He was let go and should have been. Let's move on! I guess it is tough to do when we have no idea what is happening exactly.
  18. I saw where Too Tall Tom was let go from KVLY - TV11 as their weatherman. Very disappointing. I enjoyed watching him. Have they said why he was let go?
  19. Break it down however you would like. Your argument doesn't hold water until you back it up. Fargo South always has and always will be all bark and no bite.
  20. I could really go for an Uffda Taco right now. Or how about the 3 sloppy joe meal from the kegs with onion rings and a lime coke.
  21. I suppose the next thing you are going to say is a Grinder from the Red Pepper is disgusting. Saying Pizza Corner is disgusting is like saying the Pope is Jewish. Just isn't right.
  22. Now your best chance is next year? I thought it was last weekend at regionals? What about state? I think your best chance will be in the year 2000. You will be tough that year.
  23. Would you also be available to teach "What goes around comes around 101" for a certain VP for General Administration?
