  1. if you have the means, you should take pictures of the signs in your yards, apartment buildings, etc and post them.
  2. Not sure if anyone has posted this before but this is an amazing tournament to kick the year off in Boston. Boston University 2008-09 Men's Ice Hockey Schedule
  3. Why have you always been critical of having non UND people in the Athletic Dept? Rich Glas, Gene Roebuck, and Dean Blais weren't UND guys and they seem to do a wonderful job for UND Athletics. You need to quit your "tunnel vision" thinking and realize that there is talent outside of Grand Forks and UND.
  4. Everyone needs to calm down. This video is meant to poke fun at UND and the situation between the two schools. I am guessing they used the Hitler movie clip because it shows a leader that was once in great power, unfortunately, come to grips with the fact that he is no longer as powerful as he once was. I don't believe this was meant to insult anyone, except of course the suits at UND, and it certainly wasn't meant to endorse Adolf Hitler or his beliefs or practices. I can see how this would cause some waves but everyone needs to lighten up just a little and concentrate on things that are really wrong with this world like gas prices and Francisco Liriano's arm.
  5. Announcement coming today. Doesn't look good for Rob... GF Herald Website
  6. I don't believe hockey experience, or lack there of, is a major player in the search for UND's new AD. College athletics, in my experience and opinion, does not change that much from football to basketball to volleyball to hockey. Sure the sports couldn't be more different but the management and administration of the programs are the same. That being said, not all programs get the same attention from administration, nor should they. I think UND administration should pay more attention to their "non-revenue" sports but the fact remains the hockeys, basketballs and football will receive the majority of the attention. A good AD would understand all of this as it is common sense within college athletics.
  7. Nothing is over until the job has been offered and accepted. (Does that sound like an "Animal House" reference?)
  8. Reminder to keep emailing Dr. Kelley. Wouldn't hurt to contact Kupchella and Harmenson either. Does anyone have their contact information?
  9. To open the interview process up to this "person of interest" will not only bolster the candidate pool and further ensure that we get the very best guy for the job, but it will give further credibility to the person who is ultimately hired. Now one of the two people, that were recommended by the search committee, will be hired for the job and immediately face an uphill battle because they will be the AD that "only got the job because they didn't let the 'person of interest' apply." The more I think about it the more I get frustrated. The most important hire in UND Athletics history and they are denying qualified people an interview because of the integrity of the search. In my mind, the integrity of the search took a hit because you DIDN'T let this person interview. Alumni, boosters, coaches, etc need to be ringing Dr. Kelley's phone off the hook today to get him to reconsider.
  10. The integrity of the search? Who cares? How about the integrity of the Athletic Department and the office of the Athletic Director? The shelf life of the AD is a lot longer and way more important. If you get the best candidate, who cares how it happens? With all due respect to the selection committee, there are some people on there who are in way over their head on this one. UND and the North Dakota system needs to change their hiring guidelines. They are obviously too archaic for present day college athletics. Look at Indiana and their basketball search. They went out and hired the best guy. No red tape, no 1 month application period. Just a "get it done" mentality. Why handcuff yourself with all of this political red tape BS that exists in the North Dakota system. Integrity of the search. Give me a break.
  11. Did I miss something? Why can we safely count out Purpur now? I agree, Rob would be awesome. Purpur would be great as well, and bring a lot more experience.
  12. your "gut" feeling? Could you mind telling us what you ate to make your gut feel like that?
  13. With Berning and Lance Johnson, old REA regime, running the UP Center, don't expect the REA and UP to hold hands and get along.
  14. I wonder how many of these applicants know that yesterday's wind chill was -35.
  15. Dear Fargo, What a stupid record and a big waste of time. Sincerely, Grand Forks and their record for french fries
  16. Maybe he would not agree but that still doesn't change the fact that his current job is a better position, in principal. Perhaps there are some internal problems that he would like to escape at Oregon State. Maybe he has a tie to the area. Maybe he is bluffing on the application to get a raise at Oregon State to keep him there. My point is when you line the two job descriptions up and compare the two, Oregon State/Stanford is the better position.
  17. I would be very surprised if Ray Purpur applies for the AD job. He has a great gig at Stanford and would be a strong candidate to be the next AD there when the current AD leaves. Stanford is the only school in the NCAA that has ALL of it's scholarships fully funded by endowments. Certainly a MAJOR advantage when your athletic dept doesn't have to spend a nickel on tuition. I would love to be wrong on this topic but don't be shocked if he doesn't apply. Not everyone wants to come back to Grand Forks just because they are from there. If you ask me, I would rather be a senior associate at a PAC 10 school than an AD at a lower level D-I school. No offense to UND but it is simply a better gig, in my opinion.
  18. Mark Massari seems like a great candidate! Associate AD at a big time PAC 10 School? Very impressive resume.
  19. I hope you didn't schedule your day around posting that message right at 4:31.
  20. Very good point. Big difference between Rob and Dean though is Rob has athletic administration experience and plenty of fund raising experience. Dean has none, at least not in college athletics anyway. In my mind Rob would be a much better candidate than Dean if it came down to those two. I am still rooting for Purpur. I wonder if he will apply?
  21. I am getting my a$$ kicked today. I guess it's true what they say about siouxsports.com. GO BIG OR GO HOME.
  22. I have a hard time believing that we are averaging a sellout up to this point in the year. Also, I find it hard to believe that they list our capacity at 11,500 when it clearly is not the case. Also, this is paid attendance, not actual attendance.
