  1. I love the pissing match everyone is in on this board to see who is the "biggest insider" to the UND Athletic program. If you have more knowledge than the next guy and think that makes you better than the next guy that posts on here you need a serious boost of self esteem and maybe a hobby. The funny thing is people want to be known as the "true insider" and all knowing when it comes to this message board but then everyone signs in under an alias. Seems to counteract each other doesn't it? This board, at least in my opinion, is for UND enthusiasts from all around the world to log on and talk a little Sioux sports. I feel it has turned into a "I know more than you so I am a better poster than you." WHO CARES? Post your thoughts and information and engage in some dialog. There are a lot of you on this board that need to take a step back and gain some perspective. Bottom Line...Let's talk Sioux sports and leave the competition to the student athletes.
  2. Again, I have to disagree with you. You showed what you know about ND Tennis when you said South would give RRHS a run in a 3-2 dual. RRHS won 5-0. Now to save face, you say "well RRHS is nothing against Minnesota teams. They wouldn't even make it out of the first round." Would RRHS take state every year like they do in ND? Probably not. Is RRHS good enough to compete with every team in Minnesota? I would argue yes. With the exception of the Minneapolis schools, because they have more money and facilities, what gives the Minnesota schools the advantage over RRHS? I will use your same logic and say South would have absolutely no chance competing in Minnesota if RRHS doesn't. RRHS has beaten you how many times in a row now?
  3. Most of the people that Buning supposedly surrounded himself with left because they couldn't stand it there any longer... I have a hard time blaming the troops when the General, or in this case LTC, gives no leadership or direction.
  4. Are you kidding? Obviously if you are an AD of a NAIA school, you would not be suitable for the AD job at UND. My comments were directed more at AD's at bigger budget D-2 or Mid Major D-1 schools. With our facilities and declaration for D-1, hopefully we can attract some good candidates. Given the current situation, I wouldn't blame anyone for staying away. I have a lot of respect for Rob but I don't think this is the job for him at this time. Need someone with experience.
  5. You are dead wrong on both accounts. The decision was NOT made to go D-1 at that time, far from it. And the exploratory committee DID give a recommendation.
  6. When Buning was hired, they were not looking for someone with D-1 experience as D-1 was not being seriously considered at that point. By serious I mean, exploratory committee, etc not just being discussed by the fans. I would much rather have an AD with experience in that position than an Assoc AD with no AD experience. They are completely different positions with much loftier goals and expectations, as we obviously saw with Buning. Bottom line: UND needs someone that is a man of the people and can lead a athletic dept.
  7. "VERY" close is not a win. 2000 was the last time RR lost to South. Again, to be the man you must beat the man. Good Luck, you will need it.
  8. Someone losing their job is never a good thing as family members depend on that income for support. On the other hand, I believe this move was necessary and will ultimately be what is best for UND athletics. The coaches and staff did not see eye to eye with Buning. That is never a good thing. The next person to come in must do a lot of mending wounded relationships. Another thing worth noting is I believe there are too many hands in the cookie jar when it comes to leading this dept. Tom was not the only person making decisions for the dept. A well run athletic dept should have one decision maker. At UND, you have way too many. The AD should be the final say in anything athletic. This very problem has become a huge thorn in ADs sides across NCAA athletics. When you donate to the AD or buy a season ticket, it does not give you a podium to stand on and yell every time you disagree with something. If you would like to have a say, apply for a job in the AD. There seems to be a lot of them open lately.
  9. I think that was me who predicted a 7-2 victory. Thank you very much I will not argue that a team is more vulnerable in a 3-2 setting but you can not match RRHS's depth. You have 2 players that are capable of beating RR players. You need 3 to win. Fact of the matter is, RR has not lost a state or regional, correct me if I am wrong, since 1999. You can come on here and proclaim South is a great tennis team but to that I will respond... To be the man, you must beat the man. And the last time I checked you haven't done that in quite some time.
  10. Come on. You can't be serious. RR beats South 7-2, best case scenario for south.
  11. Check out the new football ticket commercial on fightingsioux.com.
  12. I don't necessarily believe that charging for parking is the answer here. The more you are seen as nickle and diming the general public, the more apt people will be to stay home and listen on the radio or watch on TV. I understand that the Alerus needs to find new revenue streams to help balance the budget. I would have found that money another way. Increase concession prices. Hold indoor tailgating in your ballrooms, etc etc etc. Get creative. You also have to think strategically on this. Announcing you are going to charge for parking lands you negative PR in the paper, radio, TV, websites, etc. Increasing your concessions or another novelty that you currently sell gets no attention and the people that paid for it last year will pay again this season. Another thing that the Alerus needs to do is sink some marketing dollars into helping market their #1 tenant, football! The more people they get to enter their building, the more money they will earn from concessions, etc.
  13. Hurricanes are amazing but did you try a hand grenade? They will put a bounce in your step. I ran into a guy wearing a Sioux jersey in Boston.
  14. I will be interested to see how a night game will go over. If it goes well, maybe they should push for more night games during the conference season. That will be more convenient for the hunters and people working in yards, enjoying the last few nice days of the year.
  15. Parise, Hrkac, Panzer Jason Herter, Mike Commodore Tony Couture (sp?) In the stands: Bruce Tellman!
  16. I thought so...just wanted to make sure... Sign Hakstol now! Why would you want this as a distraction during the year? There is no question he is worthy of a healthy extension!
  17. When does the pre-season Top 25 come out? What are your predictions on the top 5? If not in the top 5, where do you see the Sioux?
  18. Have to say that I side with kicking the player out. This is not a court of law, this is a university. If the video tape is accurate, there is no other evidence that is needed. I think the accused player on the tape should not be given any slack. As for the other 3 players; If they knew that this was going on, which obviously one person did when he was recording, they should be expelled along with the aforementioned. If consent was given and they had no knowledge of the alleged assault, then I don't believe they should be expelled.
  19. I am also very excited to make it back for a game. Tavern United would make an excellent destination for pre and post game festivities. If you haven't been there to drink or eat, I would certainly recommend it.
  20. This is a little off the subject but has to do with player suspensions. What, in your opinion, constitutes an immediate expulsion from the team? I will bring up this example...In 2006, Rhett Bomar was immediately expelled, along with another Oklahoma teammate, for taking money they did not earn from a car dealership in Norman, OK. The program was recently punished by the NCAA. That being said, this past summer, a Nebraska wide receiver was suspended for 2 arrests, one for felony assault and another for DUI. He was not expelled from the team and it is expected that he will be punished internally and suspended for a number of games during the upcoming season. Both situations are very serious. I believe the Nebraska situation is worse but he will probably receive the lesser punishment. Why is there not a more even punishment scale for off the field incidents? The Minnesota incident stated here certainly would warrant immediate expulsion from the team and the university itself.
