  1. C'mon, you know what that "casual slogan" would be. That's why I still say "no nickname" is just a ruse to keep using the retired name.

Are we obsessed with not using the retired name?  Massively fixated??  I thought the deal was we couldn't officially be the Sioux but there would never be any policy banning people from coming to an event in Sioux gear or exercising their free speech to say "go Sioux"?  Why are you so hell bent on making sure it is eradicated?  We have been removed from the "list" and a settlement was declared and followed.  It's over or is there something more we must do??

..I can't wait for next year when the fans chant "Sioux Forever" in a deafening fashion and the announcers can't rationalize it based on some bogus assertion that it is being done because they are "the last ones to wear the Sioux Jersey".

The future will be bright for Sioux Fans.  Come up with any nickname you want, I've quit caring about that.. it aint gonna work.  Not in so much as we will still wear our Sioux gear and declare our team the Sioux..

People call themselves and call others what they want to be called.  The only way to convince someone to change that is convince them that it is wrong and we all know that it was never wrong.  The only thing that was/is wrong is the NCAA not minding their own business and further not for one second respecting the wishes of the majority of both Sioux members and everyone else.

Then there are those that keep trying to associate an asinine NCAA policy with right and wrong(see this forum for the last 12 years).  It's simple; Adhere to the policy and don't do a damn thing more.  We are Sioux fans!  The NCAA can't say we aren't, Period!! end of story!!

It's funny, whenever I post on here about maintaining the integrity of the Sioux name I get these, "It's over. Move on." like I am some last of the Mohicans irrationally holding on to some relic that has been banished by the will of all else replies from the same old players who hang around on here like it is their job to be some sort of moral authority for "The Program", yet when the vast majority of the people say they want to just be "North Dakota" these same clowns get back on their soap box, get all lathered with moral turpitude and proclaim that this is being done as chicanery to keep the name. Yeah I'm talking about you junior(not u Sikatoka).

For once, based on the majority (See any poll/ or a UND home game) I say to you all.  Move on!!

  2. It is "fans" like you that are holding this entire institution and its programs back with your "hockey only" rhetoric. While NDSU wins FB titles and goes to the NCAA tournament in MBB, we sit around and fight losing battles like this over and over and over again, even with the knowledge that we cannot and won't win. We fought the good fight and lost, so it's time to move on and start building Division I programs (not just hockey) that everyone can point to with a sense of pride.

But if that isn't good enough for you, you are more than welcome to get off the bandwagon. The rest of us will proceed to enjoy the ride upward and forward.

Oh please take a much deserved break from the fight you have fought "over and over again". You must be sooo exhausted?! Maybe you and Kelly should take a bit of an R&R over in France at the Versailles you old warrior you...

  3. Glad you could not care less about anything outside of hockey, the rest of us do.  And last I checked, the identity has always been the University of North Dakota. The nicknames and logos have changed multiple times over the past century plus, the name of the school hasn't.

Also, I believe this would be a combination of stages 1 and 2 of grieving.

It's not any stage of grieving.  I grieve when God takes something from me.  I have no tolerance for thinking about the assault on our/my identity as a loss that needs to be grieved.  As I have said 100 times on this board full of a bunch of pathetic push overs, scaredy cats and plants, if the world of Sioux fans was a bunch of me's this would have never flown.  In the end we are to blame as we- by either our own lack of gumption or the allowance of toxic leadership-  effectuated every bit of nothing that was ever not done to keep our name.

Now when the chickens are coming home to roost and all of those who love this great program with this awesome identity are beginning to see what might just come from this they are now just starting to realize the horrors to come.  Flickertails yeah yeah!!

Our only hope is to as Brad wrote, to call ourselves North Dakota.  But most likely won't happen because of the vocal and manipulative minority(same people who fought to not fight for the name) will post and post and post and post on here things like:  we need a new identity, we need to get over it, those that want to keep N.D. are just manipulating to be able to still refer to us as the Sioux- yes! exactly!!, the NCAA will say no, (fear-fear-fear-comply!!!)   Ugg!! it is so pathetic!

...Grieve??  Since you like to analyze me and associate my objections to what is currently happening to stages of grieve, How bout this, piss off!!

Analyze that.  It would be stage 47 of grieve?

Oh and by the way, "names of schools" change all of the time...

  4. I am absolutely nauseated to my stomach over this. Going from The Fighting Sioux to whatever the hell we will be called is a disgrace. I am not going to get over it, and I wont get over it. Growing up with it, living it, breathing it, going to school there....never, did I ONCE or anyone else i know that had gone to school there viewed The Fighting Sioux name and logo as hostile and abusive. Yet, we have to live with corrupt, white, NCAA fat-cats who think they know what's best for schools, individuals and different races of people. Had the state won that initial injunction to uncover those internal e-mails floating around the NCAA, it would have revealed a scheme conjured up by then president Brand, to make an example of pettily ole UND. The Fight Sioux to what? The Fighting Sioux to what?

Hey but it is all better knowning that the womens tennis team will get to play home playoff games. The School, the children! We are giving up our identity for the children. :-( What other choice do you have when its for the children? :-(, :-(, :-(. We saved the school. Weeew. Go Flickertails!!.. Can you imagine the crowd after a smoking service ace for a match point. Flicketails yeah! yeah!

    For the children!!!

  5. What they figured out is that can continue to yell Fighting Sioux because there will be nothing to compete with it. Read the comments on any article or even the suggestion list.

Oh no, what would we do? Just tragic...

  6. Exactly what I have been thinking.

They must think our IQs are pretty low.

Exactly! They must... Kind of like how they are trying to get some sort of 'credit' for being "transparent" by publishing the raw list of suggestions in an attempt to demonstrate innocence like the murderer who throws their hands in the air above the slain corpse of a victim as the cop flashes his spotlight on them..

    People are so easy...

All that's missing is a CNN camera, a victim who is anyone but a white male and a villain who just so happens to be a....

  7. I just submitted:

    BRAVEHEARTS

    fits the criteria perfectly:

    • Be unique, recognizable, inspiring, and distinctly UND’s
    • Promote a sense of pride, strength, fierceness, and passion
    • Be representative of the state and region in a way that honors the traditions and heritage of the past but also looks to the future
    • Be a unifying and rallying symbol
...This will do as a hold over until the world becomes rational and let's the Sioux people have their name represent the University of their land with pride and honor once again. It may take 20 years but it will happen..
I got mine in just before the bell. :-)

Waiting for someone to say it won't fly because the word brave can be associated with NA's...

  9. Conspiracy. UCLA fans are asking same question I'm sure. Who gives a rats behind, we know who we are and as long as we win they can call us late for dinner.

May be not a conspiracy but boy does it sound bad..

I went back through Brad's posts and he uses UND and North Dakota, I guess I just never noticed it in print until I listened to it spoken by the ESPN guy a 100 times over and now I'm sensitive to it like when you think of eating a food that you got food poisoning from...

  10. Maybe, but honestly who would say UND for 3 hours straight in lieu of North Dakota?

I'm trying to think of an example with another team where they are referred to by their initials as opposed to the state or the state with state after it?

in any case it sounds way stupid and Brad always refers to them as North Dakota and not und until today the day after the goofballs from ESPN were doing the same thing? it's certainly worth asking the question.

  11. I just possed this question to Brad on his blog, , what is with everyone in the media this weekend, even announcers, referring to the Sioux as "UND" as opposed to what they are usually called, "North Dakota"?

Obviously such unilateral stark change over night suggest that somebody might have asked them to. The quick change combined with the fact that it sounds so forced and frankly stupid to say UND really makes me think, WTF??

It sure is annoying hearing the ESPN guys continually say UND and not North Dakota. It sounded horrible. Saying North Dakota is obviously what should be being said. Is saying UND some sort of an attempt to make us all feel lacking in the name area when we are not. North Dakota sounds just fine. Good actually..

  12. I'd really like to see what Chyzyc could do with Jewels and N. Schmaltz but i spose Pooly can open up space for them. Not sure i like pattyn on that line. I almost think they should switch Pattyn and Chyzyk.

    GO SIOUX!!!

I was thinking the same thing and the same thing. Ha... (Re why they have Pooley with them.). Every line has a physical guy. The one area this team is a little weaker than some is time of possesion.

The funny thing is they are pretty good at it when the defensemen are pinching. Yet I notice that they don't pinch later in the game when we are ahead. Instead they play it conservative and back out of the offensive zone and into the neutral ice when the puck is loose..The problem here is it puts us on our heals and makes us have to play in our zone while trying to protect a lead...

Also regarding Chyzyk I think the one guy that we need to get more into dynamic situations is Chyzyk...

I am excited about Johnson as he has been playing better recently. I was very impressed with his play last weekend.

Schmaltz too. He is getting more dynamic each week...

In the end I think that our defensemen need to take over and start really setting the pace from the blue line...

  13. At one time we did have a way out but most people would say all options were exhausted before Kelley took office.

Only the unedjucated would say that. The same people that insisted the majority of Sioux people were offended by the name for nearly a decade until the Fargo forum got a clue and asked them.

The fact is that Standing Rock was set to allow a vote on the name until Murphy, their new tribal chair- who by the way was elected on a platform of supporting the name- did a 180 and blocked the vote that would have passed.

Oh and this was the reality of the situation with no input or interaction by Kelley et all... It is more than reasonable to assert had Kelley been vocal and supportive of the name outwardly that our chances would have been better...

Further, the fact that he didn't was perplexing which along with things like the summet situation created quite a curious happening to say the least.

  14.

You can pretend that we had a way out but we didn't and that happened before Kelley came into office.

That is not true.  The very embodiment of the settlement was that we DID have a way out.  The way out being actualized or not is not equivalent to not having a way out. Grossly faulty logic...

  15. Illinois and Florida State don't have the same issue we have so they don't really apply to this conversation.   Florida State got tribal approval and I am not sure what Illinois did to avoid problems.

You can pretend that we had a way out but we didn't and that happened before Kelley came into office.  The only program that wouldn't have been totally screwed was the hockey team.  That may be the only program some care about but it isn't the only one on campus.

I was strong nickname supporter until the cost got too high.  It wasn't really a hard decision for those that care about a majority of the sports on campus.

before accusing me of pretending things please look at the post to which I was REPLYING:

Oh and one other thing that you and others seem to fail to realize.  Even if UND would have gotten full support from both tribes and Kelley would have spear headed the effort, the FACT is that the Big Sky, and other conferences we were looking at joining (Summit/MVFC), had an issue with our native American name.  Having the Fighting Sioux name after the NCAA came out against them in 2005 became a problem for many Universities.  For a school that just reclassified to D1 and in search of conference affiliation, it became a big problem
