1. No, my question is not ridiculous. If UND was going to give in to the NCAA why didn't it close the deal right away, ala Arkansas State. This pussy-footing around and letting it fester for years, approaching a decade, is good for no one.

To be clear, my view on the matter is: I don't have to agree with it; Hell, I don't even have to like it; but I have to deal with it because it is the reality.

We are not dealing with reality. Kudos to Arkansas State for dealing with reality and moving on.

Your assertion that UND should have jumped in as opposed to the slow wade if reasonable. I don't personally agree with it but it is a fair position.

You comparison with Arkansas state where you cite how they just did it so we should too draws one to a similarity in situation that is ridiculous (please don't digress this into a rhetorical debate about the comparative differential value between different schools nicknames. We all know the Sioux name is a significant part of the steep tradition of Sioux hockey.)

It is on this level that your question was ridiculous.

  2. Here's the bigger issue: Why are we still having to deal with this?

Arkansas State dealt with their issue head-on and it's long since a memory (per Wikipedia):

So let's see, new announced, old retired, NCAA on board, all in six weeks.

And here we are still festering with this issue six years or more.

And I guarantee you that there were Arkansas State fans that despised the "Red Wolves" moniker and logo when it came out ... but that's nearly a decade ago already.

    B

I suppose the best way to answer your ridiculous question is not all nicknames are created equal. But honestly if someone needs to be told that they really have no business espousing an opinion on the matter. You might as well claim that we are getting rid of the name because the Sioux people wanted it gone...

  3. I've got an idea, let's be the Sioux.

Think about it. Its a pretty good idea...

    It would accomplish two things:

    1. We would call ourselves by the name we have actually given ourselves a half century ago and the name EVERYONE knows us as AND the name we want to call ourselves. Not bad?!

    2. With one simple act we could single handedly restore the notion of men doing what they want to do without the interference of insanity. I.e. doing the right thing.

-That number two there would be quite the accomplishment.

We could save ourselves. Saving humanity would be pretty cool wouldn't it? I know your saying how silly is yababy? He is trying to suggest that something as trivial as what nickname a bunch of goofballs in North Dakota call themselves has anything to do with the course of humanity?

Well I'll tell you how I'm looking at it; I see a bunch of people who have a love for something that is also a part of their identity being forced to put tape over their mouths and hide their colors in their closet at home. And they are being told they must do this by outside influences who do not have their best interests at heart, lie to them, CHANGE their justifications(first it was the Sioux people didn't want the name, then when that was dispelled it was to protect our women's tennis team), ignore the truths(the Sioux people shouted so loud that they wanted the school to keep the name it led to a federal law suit) and manipulate the relevancies(it was all about Hitler and racist white dudes) and the facts(north Dakotans did not vote to get rid of the name for any reason other than the threats of evil men who threatened to hurt our school if we did not bow to them).

Our inabilty to represent ourselves and effect out comes is, in my opinion where we are losing as a culture. If the media doesn't tell us to care- we don't. So to me this whole name change thing is a litmus test and right now we are on life support. So week we are. Subjugated to the whims of those with ill intent. Unable to fight for the simplest of rights. Pitted against each other for no gain or reason.

It is truly astonishingly unbelievable to me to witness this all happening. Such a shame and at the same time so pathetic. That's what I see and that is the symbology of both us letting our name be taken from us and the value that would be inherent in us turning our course toward rationality and simply declaring who we are

We are the Sioux. Its that simple.

Just say it. Don't be afraid. Its your name. Say it and don't stop. Why?? Because you want to that's why. We all do..

    We are the Sioux!

Common Hak, put the cap on. Ya know you want to. Be a man! If you can't say who you are in public then what will you ever have in this world?

    What will you become then?

You decide, don't let someone decide for you. Be who you want to be, what we ALL WANT TO BE! All of us want to be the Sioux.

    WE ARE THE SIOUX!!

  5. Can you name the department or describe your source? While UND's handling of the nickname is certainly fair game for criticism, I believe that people on here are entitled to know whether something asserted as true is a fact or merely a rumor. No offense, but I am calling BS on this one.

Someone needs to ask Hak if he has been told he cannot wear fighting Sioux clothing? Including when he is not at work but in public? How about the players? What are they told? I have never seen a current player wearing a fighting Sioux cap or T-shirt during an interview since they stole our identity two years ago. The realities of this whole thing are quite sick if one actually considers what is going on...

What has been said to players, coaches and faculty? Come on Press?? Ask some questions...

  6. Mills was a hell of an athlete and a role model. I remember watching him when I was a kid.

One of the mistakes we make as humans is when we value our idols as legislators of social policy. Electing actors as presidents is not the path to a great society...

Social policy should be influenced and mandated by both democratic vote and by influence and execution from those who have qualifications as great thinkers.

Neither has occurred or been evident with respect to the elimination of the Sioux name.

Of course the media presents the opposite and we eat it up...

  7. Should have met the terms of the agreement then.

Should have told them to f_ck off!

Most of the time in life diplomacy is the prudent course. Sometimes you need to tell people to f_ck off.

The gophers can f_ck off as they were major players in the name rape. I am going to Philadelphia and I will let them know it. Anyone have the seat right behind Lucia?? I want to keep an eye on him cause he might get a bit feeling under the weather in that "unhealthy" environment.

  8. Can't sleep, too thrilled that the Sioux had such a huge day! I think this is the best I've felt about the Sioux making the NCAA's. I can't tell if it just that they made it by the hair of their.. or if I feel so positive about how they will do in the tourney?

I still think that it is within this team to win it.

We are top of the line in all but two areas:

    1. Letting in the occasional soft goal.

    2. Our play in tight around the net. We NEED to play with more poise, smooth pace and focused deliberateness. Wisconsin is a good example of that. I would take our team up and down the ice against Wiscky except around the net where they do a better job of slowing it down so they can make great set ups and nice shot opportunities.

  9. Per Brad,

    UND’s lines

    9 Drake Caggiula–16 Mark MacMillan–15 Michael Parks

    28 Stephane Pattyn–19 Rocco Grimaldi–27 Luke Johnson

    21 Brendan O’Donnell–13 Connor Gaarder–11 Derek Rodwell

25 Mitch MacMillan–29 Bryn Chyzyk–17 Colten St. Clair

    18 Dillon Simpson–24 Jordan Schmaltz

    5 Nick Mattson–6 Paul LaDue

    4 Keaton Thompson–2 Troy Stecher

    I like O'Donnell with Rodwell

  10. tonight's prediction I say Johnson Smaltz and Thompsonhave the hot hand tonight.smaltz was snubbed by the UMD press guy. He is a top 5 defense min in the country. Johnson is finding is hot hand and will start to treat the opponent net like the fence in his backyard. Thompson wants to show us all how talented he s and now he can because he's comfortable in the college game.

  11. I just bought my plane ticket to the Frozen Four. Looking forward to watching the Sioux smash the Gophers in the national championship game!! :silly: Comon' hockey gods!! work with us..

Worse case, I spend a weekend golfing with my buddie on the east coast?@!$@

  12. It might have been a good time for Zane to take a loss. We probably won't lose next weekend or the weekend after. so then if he had not lost tonight he would be taking a pretty heavy stretch into the stretch where I would really like to see him win em all!...

The Sioux lost a ton of puck battles tonight and had hard time getting the puck up top in the offensive zone. That's the improve area I would take from this one.

  13. I tried that at the Frozen Four in Denver, and the scalpers wouldn't budge a dollar so I said forget it and went across the street to watch the game in a bar(Jackson's I think?).

I think the scalpers assumed that since I was a Sioux fan that I drove 1000 miles for the game. However, I was going to college in Colorado at the time, which is why $ weren't exactly growing on trees for hockey tickets.

In hindsight, it worked out for the best because the game was pretty much over after the 1st period. It was tough to watch but would've been much tougher had I gave in to the greedy scalpers. I knew people that had taken an overnight bus from ND, and I'm sure some of you did as well, to watch the game. I remember feeling really bad for those people.

That was a rough day. By the time I got my tickets and got into the game with my son and my buddy it was already 2 nothing. Spending two hours listening to con men trying to rip me off while everyone else was having fun drinking and chatting about the looming contest sucked big time. I will NEVER go that route again.

...speaking of cheep tickets, are tickets really only $40 for the whole first round series?

  14. Actually, the expression is "couldn't care less" or could not care less," but let's not get bogged down in semantics...agree 100% on your point. Ask 10 people in Wisconsin how many hockey titles UW has, and I bet 1 gets the answer right. Now ask those same 10 what Aaron Rodgers had for breakfast that morning, and I bet 9 get the answer correct.

I've never been to a game in Madison nor have I spent a whole lot of time around Wisconians. I did go to the Winsc. Vs DU WCHA First round series at Magness Arena and there were about 20 Badger fans there. Conversely, the Kohl center has traditionally been one of the leaders in attendance for college hockey over the years so its kind of hard to say.

  15. CC did us a favor by beating Denver up at Magness and creating some distance between us and DU. I went to the game and CC is really starting to play good hockey. Hopefully they can get their first sweep tonight at World Arena.

I watched part of that game and the thing that impressed me, and not in a good way, was how much of a dive fest it was coming from both benches. Thank god the Sioux have never been that team!

  16. ...Because, I think Rodwell will be a little better at finishing hence we will generate more scoring with Grimaldi and the General working with him. I'm not saying I don't like Johnson but you can definitely see him kind of skate through the play a bit. The game is not clear(slow) to him down in close yet.

Anybody have a bowl and a spoon or another word eating apparatus?
