  1. I wasn't aware that the conference affiliation was more of an issue with the UND/UM situation than the nickname. I spoke without fully understanding the situation. When I speak to UND hockey fans, being able to see Wisconsin and Minnesota at home is always a talking point as to why they have such an interest in watching. I'll leave the finer points of the discussion to those of you who understand the situation better, but from Fullerton's comments this week, I believe UND is in big trouble at this point.
  2. What a mess this has all become, how can the nickname supporters not see that this is ultimately going to be a death sentence for the University's athletic programs? Not being able to schedule your biggest rival (UM) in your most popular sport would crush support for that program. UND hockey fans major interest from my perspective has always been that they see the premier hockey programs in the nation at Engelstad each week. Without that there aren't many "sexy" names on the schedule to get excited about. Awful. I am sincerely upset that UND has to deal with this BS.
  3. With all of the receivers coming in, is there any thought that UND might be switching to a more wide open passing type attack?
  4. I have heard UND people say things like this for years, but am curious about the real impact that would have on a football recruit. I can say personally that I wouldn't be impressed by the atmosphere of a different sport than the one I was being recruited to play. Does bringing football recruits to hockey games have a major effect on the player's decision? Edit: When I was on visits to UND the ralph was just being built, we spent more time looking at the weightroom and training facilities at the Ralph than the one we would actually be using. The smart recruits on the visits with me realized this was only to hide the lack in football facilities and it actually turned some of us off.
  5. What point are you even attempting to make?
  6. Why do you seem to have such a hardon for NDSU these past couple of weeks?
  7. Please don't take this clown seriously. He was just trying to stir the pot. I don't know Jim K personally, but I have always heard wonderful things. He is a GREAT football player and has been a source of pride for all of North Dakota his entire career, regardless of whether you are an NDSU or UND fan.
  8. For the record, this video is most definately an illustration of how fast Jimmy K was and not how slow the NDSU defender who is chasing him is. IIRC, that is Aaron Skyberg chasing him. Not slow. Kleinsasser was a freak athlete.
  9. I knew it would happen eventually on this topic Dave, you just put yourself in a box. You just stated the exact reason why the old labels were misleading. Under the old system, Georgetown as an institution was labeled a I-AA school. The old system labeled institutions as a whole based on their football designation. I-A schools played for the BCS championship I-AA schools played the playoffs to decide the champion I-AAA schools were schools that did not have football at all. eg. Wichita State, Gonzaga. They made the change to be more accurate and to not label entire institutions based on one sport. The reason you just quoted is exactly why the change was needed. Because under the old system, Georgetown didn't play I-AA football, they were a I-AA institution.
  10. We can do this all day. I didn't ask him to defend the hyperbolic scenarios and switch the argument over to that which would have made it a strawman. If I would have made the argument about those hyperbolic statements it would have at that point become a strawman.
  11. Again I come back to: Who is claiming that if NDSU wins on January 7th that they will be the best college football team in the country?
  12. I realize sarcasm doesn't come through very well over the internet, but I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone over there who actually believes that.
  13. A straw man is a component of an argument and is an informal fallacy based on misrepresentation of an opponent's position, twisting his words or by means of [false] assumptions. I didn't misrepresent his position or twist his words to mean something other than they were. I simply pointed out that his argument was "like" saying all of those other things.
  14. Actually, I directly addressed his argument with a simile and some hyperbole to drive my point home, so in no way is that a strawman argument.
  15. Do you have a problem with Dickinson Trinity or Kindred or Lisbon claiming a state football championship?
  16. If it bothers you that much, may I suggest that you petition your AD to make the move up to FBS.
  17. What point are you trying to make that anyone is disagreeing with you about? It has been conceded that if NDSU wins this game, they won't be considered to be the best team in the country. That doesn't make the championship "not a true D-I championship".
  18. Just because you keep saying that doesn't make it true. You can say it isn't the highest level of competition, but you can't say it isn't a true D-I championship. That's like saying your Division I hockey championships count for nothing because there is still the NHL that is a higher level. And wait the NBA championship is meaningless due to it not involving teams from all over the world. Olympics are meaningless because they only involve our planet, there has to better basketball teams in another solar sytem somewhere in the universe. We could do this all day. I haven't heard any NDSU fan claim that if we are fortunate enough to win the game on Jan. 7th that we will be the best college football team in the country.
  19. One could also argue that NDSU is better than Alabama based on performances by both teams against Georgia Southern. Why do UND fans continue to degrade the level of competition that their athletes play at, and if I-FCS is the new Division II, how much validity does that give UND's national championship run in '01?
  20. I guess I didn't know that there were NDSU fans that were claiming to be the best Division I football team in the country. The championship is what it is, a Division I football championship. Nobody is claiming to be anything other than the best Division I FCS football team when they win the FCS championship. It isn't anything more than that, but it certainly isn't anything less than that. Don't try to downplay the accomplishment by saying it isn't any better than an old DII championship.
  21. I can't help but laugh at this comment, it is just so predictable that some UND fans would respond this way. If UND were in the championship you would not come on this forum and say it isn't a true D-I championship.
  22. I remember when we used to play Cal-Poly we would always have a special scheme lined up for them because of their unique offensive sets. It always bit us in the butt, because we weren't as familiar with our responsibilities in that defense as we were our base sets. They had some pretty amazing personell back when I played, but even if they hadn't we blew so many coverages because we were unfamiliar with our responsibilities and out of our comfort zone. Hopefully UND doesn't make a similar mistake.
  23. Ok...could you please elaborate slightly?
  24. Honest question to Sioux fans, because I have said it and other Bison fans have said it, but I haven't really heard anyone who is a Sioux fan agree. Do you think UND can ever get back to being an elite team with the current head coach?
  25. I'm not saying they didn't want him bad, for all I know he was their top recruit for next year's class. That doesn't change the fact that it is still only one guy, now if this becomes a trend, maybe it shows up on Bohl's radar. We have lost recruits to other schools besides UND before and I have no doubt that will continue to happen in the future. Losing a recruit here and there to another school doesn't strike fear into the heart of coach bohl I would imagine. It is a competitive game and losing a guy here and there is all a part of it.
