  1. So if I assume that we will win the game I am a typical arrogant Bison fan, if I acknowledge that in a rivalry game the outcome is always a toss up I am met with that response. I see.
  2. No, giving yourself the best opportunity to make the playoffs without directly helping a recruiting competitor is a good business decision. UND will be scheduling the exact same way in the coming years, so don't get too high up on that horse.
  3. Also, if NDSU were to do this it isn't exclusive to playing UND. They would be able to charge the same premium for bringing in Montana, Montana St. App St, Georgia Southern, Sam Houston. We need to find a benefit that is exclusive to playing UND for the argument to be valid.
  4. Fine, but now you are saying play the game based on a benefit that is predicated on NDSU changing a policy toward season ticket holders. Darrell, don't be childish, neither team is afraid of the other. It is a business transaction that requires the emotionless decision making that all business decision do. If it doesn't benefit us and directly benefits a main competitor in your target market you don't do it. It's simple.
  5. I haven't said money is the reason I don't want to play them, I only said it isn't the reason we should play them. My only point is to say the money is a wash, so unless it benefits us some other way, why play the game every year?
  6. But if you have a choice, why would you choose 5?
  7. I very much doubt that would happen. Where does that end? Sorry season ticket holders, SDSU and UNI are home this year instead of away so we are charging more for season tickets this year. UND wouldn't be the only "premium" game. This wouldn't sit well with season ticket holders and is not a likely scenario.
  8. 82SiouxGuy, your idea sounds great in theory, but NDSU has nearly 10000 season ticket holders who wouldn't be charged the extra $20. The extra $20 per ticket would likely only be for single game tickets. Minus out the students and you only have 5-6k single game tickets left. Not $300000 worth.
  9. Yikes, didn't mean to start a holy war over attendance. Argue if you want to, but the fact remains that NDSU benefits very little financially from playing UND every year. There are many benefits to playing UND, finances is not one of them.
  10. Do most UND fans not realize that every game is sold out or nearly sold out at the FargoDome? There is little to be gained financially for NDSU to play UND, wanting the game to be played for other reasons is just fine, but don't continue to use the financial gain argument it doesn't hold water.
  11. I wasn't aware that the conference affiliation was more of an issue with the UND/UM situation than the nickname. I spoke without fully understanding the situation. When I speak to UND hockey fans, being able to see Wisconsin and Minnesota at home is always a talking point as to why they have such an interest in watching. I'll leave the finer points of the discussion to those of you who understand the situation better, but from Fullerton's comments this week, I believe UND is in big trouble at this point.
  12. What a mess this has all become, how can the nickname supporters not see that this is ultimately going to be a death sentence for the University's athletic programs? Not being able to schedule your biggest rival (UM) in your most popular sport would crush support for that program. UND hockey fans major interest from my perspective has always been that they see the premier hockey programs in the nation at Engelstad each week. Without that there aren't many "sexy" names on the schedule to get excited about. Awful. I am sincerely upset that UND has to deal with this BS.
  13. With all of the receivers coming in, is there any thought that UND might be switching to a more wide open passing type attack?
  14. I have heard UND people say things like this for years, but am curious about the real impact that would have on a football recruit. I can say personally that I wouldn't be impressed by the atmosphere of a different sport than the one I was being recruited to play. Does bringing football recruits to hockey games have a major effect on the player's decision? Edit: When I was on visits to UND the ralph was just being built, we spent more time looking at the weightroom and training facilities at the Ralph than the one we would actually be using. The smart recruits on the visits with me realized this was only to hide the lack in football facilities and it actually turned some of us off.
  15. What point are you even attempting to make?
  16. Why do you seem to have such a hardon for NDSU these past couple of weeks?
  17. Please don't take this clown seriously. He was just trying to stir the pot. I don't know Jim K personally, but I have always heard wonderful things. He is a GREAT football player and has been a source of pride for all of North Dakota his entire career, regardless of whether you are an NDSU or UND fan.
  18. For the record, this video is most definately an illustration of how fast Jimmy K was and not how slow the NDSU defender who is chasing him is. IIRC, that is Aaron Skyberg chasing him. Not slow. Kleinsasser was a freak athlete.
  19. I knew it would happen eventually on this topic Dave, you just put yourself in a box. You just stated the exact reason why the old labels were misleading. Under the old system, Georgetown as an institution was labeled a I-AA school. The old system labeled institutions as a whole based on their football designation. I-A schools played for the BCS championship I-AA schools played the playoffs to decide the champion I-AAA schools were schools that did not have football at all. eg. Wichita State, Gonzaga. They made the change to be more accurate and to not label entire institutions based on one sport. The reason you just quoted is exactly why the change was needed. Because under the old system, Georgetown didn't play I-AA football, they were a I-AA institution.
  20. We can do this all day. I didn't ask him to defend the hyperbolic scenarios and switch the argument over to that which would have made it a strawman. If I would have made the argument about those hyperbolic statements it would have at that point become a strawman.
  21. Again I come back to: Who is claiming that if NDSU wins on January 7th that they will be the best college football team in the country?
  22. I realize sarcasm doesn't come through very well over the internet, but I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone over there who actually believes that.
  23. A straw man is a component of an argument and is an informal fallacy based on misrepresentation of an opponent's position, twisting his words or by means of [false] assumptions. I didn't misrepresent his position or twist his words to mean something other than they were. I simply pointed out that his argument was "like" saying all of those other things.
