  1. #2 has signed....

    From hockeyfights.com

The Washington Capitals have signed free agent center Trevor Bruess to a two-year entry-level contract beginning in 2009-10, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today. The Capitals expect Bruess to join the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL) next week on an amateur tryout agreement.

Bruess (pronounced BRISS), 23, has spent the past three seasons with Minnesota State of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). The 6'0", 200-pound Minneapolis native was an assistant captain for the Mavericks in 2008-09. He had 12 goals, 17 points and 117 penalty minutes in 35 games on the season, leading the team in penalty minutes and finishing tied for third in goals.

Bruess led Minnesota State in points (30) and assists (21) as a sophomore in 2007-08 in 38 games. His nine goals included a team-high three shorthanded goals, one power-play goal and one game-winner. He won the team's Hardest Worker Award for the second year in a row and led the team in plus/minus rating (+22). In three collegiate seasons Bruess posted 24 goals and 61 points in 110 games.

Bruess joins an organization that has seen five former college free agents contribute with the Capitals at the NHL level this season: Jay Beagle, Sean Collins, Graham Mink, Brian Pothier and David Steckel.

Maybe Big Joe will be able to have a conversation with him in training camp similar to Greene/Paukovich.

  2. 9) 2006 semifinals. In the afternoon, UND beats Wisconsin on 2 goals by Kaip, to keep Wisconsin winless all-time in the first 6 years at the Xcel. (They have since won 2 games.) In the evening, St Cloud with the big rally to top Minnesota, who had looked unbeatable up to that point.

I'll never forget when the Sioux won this game, and the announcement was made that UND would play Minnesota in the championship game the next night.

  3. Mich or Notre Dame will be placed in Mlps before us if we are #4.

    Hello Bridgeport.

I'm not sure I'd agree. I could see either Michigan or Notre Dame getting sent to Bridgeport, leaving the Minneapolis regional open for either UND or Denver. There's not a terrible amout of difference in distance between Minneapolis and Bridgeport from either place. I could see the committee try to get either UND or Denver in Minneapolis in an attempt to limit the number of potential WCHA teams in the Frozen Four.

  4. just hunches, the thursday game is gna be a 3-2 game and can go either way. whichever goalie makes the bigger saves , i like the smaller rink for umd and both golaies are playing very well right now. uw is desperate and will take out du to play the sioux after the sioux drop umd. umd season ends with losing to du and the sioux hoist their 2nd trophy of the year over uw and ending their season. this puts du and und as locks as 1 or 2 seeds and um and umd probably out by a thread. if um beats duluth they should be in along with du and und

It's crazy to think that we could very well only have 2 teams from the WCHA in the NCAA's this year.

  5. Dunc will tie Porter for consecutive NCAA games played...another accolade for Ryan!

What a way to finish up his career at the Ralph tonight! One of my highlights as a Sioux fan will always be the Hobey Baker ceremony in St. Louis. Definitely an experience me and my family will never forget. Earlier that day, when the Hobey candidates were signing autographs, I stood in line with my kid to get a puck signed. Ryan went out of his way to thank us for making the trip and apologized for not getting the win for us. Just an all-around class act!

  6. he makes good jerseys. its a good buy, mine are better but i dont have any as of now ;)

if all goes as planned i may be doing various retros in the off season

I'd like to suggest the early-90's(?) plain jerseys with simply "North Dakota" across the front.

  7. (Pssst. It's "cycle". As in cycle the puck.)

The only thing that concerns my about this Sioux team, as many have already pointed out, is the power play. It isn't bad enough that we've developed a rather inefficient approach of late, but giving up 2 shorties on one power play Saturday certainly exposes a problem or two.

How about giving up 5 SHG to one team in a single season?

  8. I have just as much faith this season as any of the previous four seasons. Maybe even a little more this year. Just a gut feeling I have, but I really think this team could be the one to finally hang that 8th banner in the Ralph.

In a one-and-done tournament like this, I wonder how many of these #1 seeds are going to be watching the selection show praying that they don't get stuck in a Regional with UND?

  9. from what ive read hes a top tier d man prospect thats a possible 1st rounder in next years draft. hes he real deal and d partners with fellow sioux recruit andrew macwilliam with camrose. lock it down hak and company !!

I had the opportunity to watch Olsen and MacWilliam a few weeks ago while on a ski trip in Alberta. Olsen is the real deal! Easily the best player on the ice the night I watched them. If UND can land this kid it's going to be a huge win.

MacWilliam looks like a very nice player too.
