President Kennedy Message on Athletics
NDSUguy replied to fightingsioux4life's topic in Other Sports
Not sure if you guys saw the interview with Kennedy on WDAY.... On camera he said exactly what Schlossman suggested. He said that UND was looking at all options including a change in conferences. He even went so far to say how it would be fun to play against traditional rivals. I don't know how anyone would say that his interview was anything but directly confirming the idea of switching conferences.- 2,150 replies

So we are going through this exercise again? How many times have you stated that something is going to happen just to have it not happen. Is it just me or is the doomsday clock more accurate than the BSC to WAC to FBS expansion Clock

President Kennedy Message on Athletics

What difference would it really have made if Pres Kennedy would have been available for questions? Does delaying his conversations with the media by a day or two change anything? Each of the questions that Miller presented in his column are legitimate. The problem is that Kennedy doesn't know the answers. Q:How do you whiff on a budget by 1.4 Million? A: We are reviewing the specifics. Q: Why are you moving the athletics' CFO out of the department? A: This will allow for better institutional control. Q: Who is going to serve on the committee? A: That has yet to be determined. To me this is simply an attempt at a power play by the Herald. Contrary to what Forum Communications believe, the presidents of universities are not beholden to the media. To do things when and how they say it needs to be done. Will Kennedy be available to answer questions. Yes, when he gets back. Will it be on the Herald's timeline? Nope.- 2,150 replies

Sounds good. We'll make sure to coordinate the heist with your criminal hockey players.

The head to head record has nothing to do with the trophy. Since neither of the universities own the trophy it should not be located in Grand Forks.

The team has recruited very well over the past two years and will challenge for the Summit league title this year. They just won a tournament in Pittsburgh last week where they beat Youngstown and Duquesne (both quality teams from good leagues).
-
Oral Roberts did inflate the rpi in the past however with SDSU, NDSU and Oakland having good RPI's I expect that the teams have improved more than the loss of Oral Roberts.
-
my 2 cents as an outsider.... 1. Big Sky has a far superior TV deal to the Summit - Advantage Big Sky 2. Footprint - This really should be in favor of Summit but might vary depending on your ponit of view (i.e. timezones, "cooler" locations, "not-ncc teams"). The summit footprint (even with Denver and Oakland) is in reality much smaller than the Big Sky with far more schools to bus to. 3. Non-Football Sports - The Summit league has consistently ranked higher in conference RPI in mens basketball (and has gone back and forth in the other sports) 4. Football - I'm not going to get into a pissing match over which is the better/harder conference. For arguments sake lets call the conferences even. Personally, I don't really care if UND stays in the Big Sky or not. I think that the addition of Denver does add to the conference (especially if Oakland is not able to jump to the Horizon League). With the improving men's basketball programs at NDSU/SDSU, I can see the "prestige" of the Summit improving over the next 5 years. I think that the overarching goal is to consistently reach the top 15 status in conference RPI.

Makes sense... I didn't think of the open meeting laws and the details of the settlement. On its face it seems fishy but i'm willing to buy what you're selling.

I don't know that i fully agree with your statement but in my opinion there is NO reason that anyone associated with the REA should be in attendance.

Now that there is a meeting in place, what are the general thoughts regarding talking points for the ND delegates? What leverage will the Gov et al have that would sway the NCAA? Many have talked about not laying down to the NCAA. While I think that the group will have to be assertive, they also need to present with more than just a "pretty please" request. What can they say or do that would make the NCAA change its mind? Discuss.
-
Wow... no playoff games for 20 years.... original. nice work. I'm still confused as to why the NCAA would change their stance. It's their organization and in the end they can do whatever they want with it. I'm no UND supporter but I just don't see this working out well for the athletic department. I think that this may work out well for those who want the nickname and logo however is UND being on the NCAA naughty list worth it? Also, if/when there is a lawsuit, i sure hope that this is funded privately and not by general funds. The NCAA has deep pockets.
-
Not trying to fan the flame but I have a few questions: 1. This does not require the AG to sioux the NCAA. What happens if the AG refuses to do this. 2. If the AG did sue the NCAA, what happens if when the AG loses the lawsuit (like before) Is it possible that this vote will keep the nickname but in return UND loses all home playoff games from here on out?

funny but that's the same thing that we used to chant after the '97 flood...

I kind of like the brave as an option. It could be made into a really cool logo plus it takes a shot at the native american activists.
