  1. There are 59 D1 college hockey teams. At the end of every year there is 1 winner and 58 losers. At least by making it to the FF we get the opportunity to be one of the teams to play to be the winner rather than be like the rest of the teams that don't even make the FF or would give anything just to make the tournament. Where did Union, last years winner end up?

they won a title did they not?

  2. Hak can put up wins

    Put butts in the seats

Just can't put a banner in the rafters

I dont quite understand why Murphy was in the line up.  He has zero goals and he is playing on the second line?  Nick Schmaltz is a distributor and he is playing with two guys who are not goal scorers..I would have played Olson over Murphy.  Not saying Olson is a goal scorer but has at least shown the ability to put the puck in the net

  3. I think he will stay. Gotta think he would be a decent minor league player but questionable at NHL level (that's no insult), like a good number of UND stars over the years. Despite the number of Sioux that go on to play in the big show, a good number don't that were stars in their college days. I know it's easy to chase a $1/2M or more to sign but I'd rather be a big man on campus on a top college team year in year out playing in front of nearly 12K fans vs playing on some minor league team playing in front of 1/3 to 1/2 of that tops. We all have different values/priorities though, understood.

Look at Kristo...he doesnt seem able to make the show.

  4. I am someone who remembers drinking beer underage in college and high school. It is against the law, yes, but it is not an amoral act or even a let down to the team. NDSU is not even on my radar- it is an irrelevant University that people who went to real schools don't even consider.

Should athletes be held to a ridiculously high standard? I don't think so. If all they were doing is drinking, and initiatiing, and being 18-23 year old college kids, who cares???

I get the brand spin and the University spin- they have to do wha tthey have to do, but if all this is is drinking during the pre-season, on a weekend, then I don't care at all.

Well alot of people apparently do...who cares what you think. It is an embarassment to the University and the hockey program. Period!

  5. These guys are not pros yet- in fact, the official start of the season has yet to begin.

Remember that a Johnny Toews and a Zach Parise also got busted while at UND.

GF police have very little to worry about compared to many major college towns i.e. Mpls, Boston- this is a joke.

If you think these kids focus on nothing but hockey you are nuts. If you think pros focus on nothing but hockey all the time, you are nuts. You need to unwind, and you need to be part of the team.

These incidents have happened for at least 30 years. This is a police department and an AD that are grandstanding.

If you think that Danny Kristo having a sixer on a Saturday night in September impacts out chances of winning a title, you need your head examined

Zach Parise never was busted for any underage drinking...check your facts dude...he was in a bar as a minor but was not drinking......him and Smaby

  6. The whole situation is a total embarassment to the program...I am as big a Sioux fan as anyone and have spent thousands of dollars over the years following the team. This really pisses me off...a team that is supposed to be getting ready to play the season to pull this....wow

  7. So more suspensions to come...

This whole situation is truly embarrading for the program. Obviously Danny kristo is more interested in partying than becoming a pro hockey player. If I was Montreal i would drop him like a bad habit. Do these guys not realize they are under the microscope kinda like a pro athlete in a major sports town? Way to start the season guys! Hak must be really pissed or maybe he just can't control these guys. Wouldn't be surprised to see Grimaldi go major junior...and can't blame him. At least he has his head on straight and is pursuing his goals.

  8. I disagree with you and I think a lot of others will too... Rau is a great player with a skill set that will only get better.

Agree. Glad you are a hockey scout scpa0305. Duncan was undrafted, Rau went high in the 4th round with similar size. I dislike Rau with a passion. That being said not may players can come right out of high school and step onto the top line in the WCHA. Oh and if you forgot the Sioux were hard after him as well.

  9. Because the drive from the MSP airport is so wonderful!

    Traffic. Oh boy!

Several mid sized buildings. Is that the downtown Minneapolis skyline way over there? Neat!

Suburbia with no identity. Look, there is a Menards. Look, there is another Menards. Cool!

Oh, wow, I was just in Bloomington, now I'm in some other city, Awesome!

Yep, Grand Forks is in a rural area. I am betting that Mr. Jones knows that.

    Come on man.

VERY well put! I laughed at that! I live in the cities and you hit it dead on....

  10. Nice win tonight....Nice accomplishment for the Sioux to finish in 4th with this depleted roster. Lammy and a converted dman on the 3rd line and the rest of the 3rd and 4th line walk ons. I appreciate what Lammy brings to the program but 1 goal in 30 games...c'mon man

  11. This is becoming such a joke....why don't some of the Goofer recruits leave for major junior? You cannot replace these top end recruits no matter if you have a year or not. I predict Grimaldi will not be in a Sioux jersey next year either

  12. I love it when people use ONLY national championships as a measuring stick. It just means they are completely clueless what it takes, and what it means to actually win one.

Yes, you have to be good, and well coached. Thats a given. But seeing as the play-offs is a "one and done' deal, you also need to have more than a little luck on your side.

A case can certainly be made for saying more often than not, the BEST team does not win the National Championship, but the team that gets "hot" at the right time. Take nothing away from UMD, but who really thinks they were THE best team in the country last year ?

I did as a Sioux fan. They had the best powerplay by far and a first and second line to match UND's. It would have been a good game but there is no reason to believe they would not have beaten the Sioux

  13. 5 goals on 15 shots? Come on Dell...not good. Not a good weekend for goaltending or defenseman to say the least. I am wondering if Dell was resting on his laurels from last year a bit. Reporting to camp at 219 pounds seems a bit heavy for a goalie of that height. Just real frustrating as i think they said last night that is the last games at the Kohl Center as a member of the WCHA and we get swept like that....not good. I was hoping Rodwell would step up this year but he has been MIA so far all year.

  14. Agreed but that is the problem. You are not going to be able to replace Schmaltz and Matteau at this point, guys who are supposed to be here next year with anything but recruited walk ons...aka Gaardner or whatever his name is Pattyn, Dickin Seinbel etc. Those players are not ready for primre time

  15. Eidsness still flops around too much where Dell stays more square to the puck. I think we are 0-4 in the last 4 against Maine so I swear something must change against these hockey east schools. Anyone know why Dell is listed at 209 pounds on the roster? That seems pretty heavy for a goalie who is not that tall.

  16. Embarrasing for who? You? You're right I'm sure BC fans just laugh when we're on the schedule. That's not overreacting? UND had some lapses that hurt them during a four minute span, that is something that can be corrected, especially when they were coming from players that played integral roles in getting the Sioux to the Frozen Four. Ben Blood led the nation in plus/minus last year, and he made some mistakes. Aaron Dell didn't make a big save when we needed it like he did so often last year. Add to that some bad penalties and freshmen mistakes, and you have a recipe to lose to a very good BC team. I happen to think that all of the things that went wrong in this game can be turned around, but I don't expect it to be overnight. Either you believe in the building process that Hakstol espouses or you don't I happen to believe it, because I have seen it every year.

Only to crumble at tournament time.
