I'll never forget the pick-up games with Mapletoft and Hudler over at University Park. Mapletoft was unstoppable and simply scored at will. Hudler perfected his slashing, high-sticking, boarding and cross-checking skills. Those were the good old days.
  6. Note that according to the Feminist Majority Foundation, part of the problem is caused by girls cheering for aggressive, violent male athletes. Does this means that women shouldn't be allowed to cheer at hockey games?

Andy's still growing. In a few years, he may eventually reach Bina's height.

With Andy being 6-8, 275 pounds, I'm sure the thought has crossed his mind.
  9. I never had the pleasure of seeing the 87 team play other than video highlight footage, but I voted for them on reputation alone. I like the 2000 team best because I was in Providence when they won the national championship. They weren't a dominant team during the regular season, but they peaked at just the right time.

Hudler is a hack. Ditka is a has-been. Mapletoft is Lindros, Gretzky and Domi all rolled into one. Schneider could pulverize any of them with one hand tied behind his back.
  11. Yes, but it was back in the days when football was played with the entire pig, not just the skin.
  12. It depends on when you went to school there. When I was at SDSU, every football game between the two schools was a fiercely contested battle. Plus, the Coyotes were supplied with money and talent by USD alumnus Joe Robbie of Miami Dolphin fame. The Coyote football teams of the late 60s and early 70s were darn good. When the Jacks could beat the Coyotes, it was a big deal back then. I would agree that in recent years, the basketball rivalry has eclipsed the football rivarly, but that hasn't always been the case. And that's not really the point. The fact is, the sports rivalry between SDSU and USD is just as strong as the one between NDSU and UND. I really have no idea how you can measure the importance of fooball rivalries outside of the respective states. It seems to me that the residents of the states place far more importance and emphasis on those rivalries than anyone outside the states. I'll also point out that the debate about SDSU leaving for D-IAA has been much more hotly debated and generated more rancor around South Dakota than NDSU's move has in North Dakota.
  13. Don't kid yourself. The rivalry between SDSU and USD in South Dakota is every bit as great as NDSU and UND in North Dakota.

Mapletoft is better than Parise (both of them) and Vanek combined.

You'll have to ask the resident expert. All I know is that we could sure use Mapletoft on the power play.
  16. Why? Are they moving Engelstad Arena there?

Schneider is taller than Bina. That was a joke, son. I see that on the Sioux roster, Schneider is listed at 6-0, 215. I'm sure that's pretty close to reality. I was thinking that at one time, they had him listed as 6-1 or 6-2. There's no way he's that tall.
  18. Now that I see the Sicatoka's post, I think what Lennon and Hennessy probably said last night was that a UND win over NDSU next season would only give UND 4 points as opposed to the 9 points received for beating UM-Crookston.
  19. I could've sworn that Hennessy or Lennon said that NDSU received only 4 points for beating Montana.

    Officiating

That only happens to ARs in Grand Forks who dare to call penalties on the Gophers.
  21. I am no expert on the DII selection process, but if I understood Lennon and Hennessy correctly, all the teams in the NCC knew the selection criteria before drawing up their schedules. UND received twice as many points for beating UM-Crookston as NDSU received for beating Montana. Is that fair? Probably not. But NDSU gambled and lost. It's easy at this point to say that playing NDSU next season won't affect UND's playoff chances, but it's clear that the possibility exists. If UND's goal is to win national championships, why would you agree to play a game that doesn't help you if you win and cripples your playoff chances if you lose?
  22. Hey, RW77, any Mapletoft sightings lately?

    It's always a roller-coaster ride here.
  24. Listening to Dale Lennon on the Sioux coaches show Wednesday night, he didn't sound very optimistic that UND would play NDSU next season. He is, however, keeping his options open until the season is over. All the talk focused on how the Bison loss to UC-Davis really hurt their chance to make the playoffs and how their win against Montana did little to help them. As Lennon and Hennessy described the DII playoff selection criteria, I don't know how anyone could reasonably conclude that NDSU's loss to UC-Davis didn't severely hurt the team's playoff chances. Hennessy made the best point a couple days ago on his morning talk show. If, he asked, at the end of next season, playing NDSU kept UND out of the playoffs, how many Sioux fans would think that agreeing to play the Bison was a good idea?
  25. How about some Lawrence Welk or Benny Goodman?
