Regardless of whether North Dakota's congressional delegation can actually accomplish anything in Congress to help UND in this fight, simply expressing their displeasure with the NCAA carries a lot of weight. Even if the NCAA doesn't lobby Congress (and it's hard to imagine that it doesn't), some of its most influential members certainly do.

Was this story in the print version of the Herald? I just skimmed it this morning and don't remember seeing it.
-
About time. My thanks to all those who kept the pressure on. Of course, Conrad can't resist getting some political mileage out of the issue. I noticed that the Congressional delegation of one of those "other states" that got its appeal approved first jumped on the NCAA almost immediately. What took you so long, Kent? Maybe you, Earl and Byron should have said something before UND filed its appeal, not after it was denied.

He should, but he didn't. It took a while to get it changed, but Kozek finally has his goal. Sorry about that.

Do Arizonans have some kind of quota that makes them repeat this phrase a certain number of time each day? Because my father-in-law lives down there and I swear every time he talks to us on the phone or e-mails us, he says the same thing.

Caitlin needs to get out more and maybe pay a little closer attention to current events. False. Right. So why do you care whether it changes or not? Translation: Kupchella should act on my personal beliefs. That's nice, except that the NCAA started the argument and refused to end it when Kupchella asked them to. But, hey, if discussing the scholarship of "some American Indian students" makes UND a hostile and abusive place, then it's time to raise the white flag, throw in the towel and fall on our swords. We've been busted by Caitlin.

The famous 1972 quote: "I can't believe Nixon won. Everyone I know voted for McGovern."
-
I thought that was one of the job requirements.
-
Please. Don't encourage him. I'm surprised that UND is rated that high, given our hostile and abusive nickname and all. Beating Manitoba apparently did wonders for the Sioux.

And if so, why am I not teaching that class?
-
So it's gone from you made a bet with someone to needing to know for a class you're taking?
-
So you're saying that the local media knows about the reports and is simply ignoring them?

I didn't play enough football to receive massive head trauma. Besides, we had those spiffy leather helmets to protect our noggins.

GK is big on literal interpretations. It's his thing.

Now that's just harsh. If I have a choice, I'd rather be taken out for Frank Gifford reasons.

There are two sides to every story. I'm not saying the all things you say happened didn't happen because I don't know. I know the egging incident happened because I read about it in the Herald. But without knowing who did it or why, it's impossible to know if racism was the motive. I would hope that each incident was reported and properly investigated. I would hope that if there was validity to the charges, the authorities would have made an effort to find out who was responsible and charge them with whatever crimes applied. What I do know is that you have demonstrated time and time again a tendency to interpret words and incidents in a literal fashion just so you can cry racism. Like it or not, it diminishes your credibility.

If I knew (which I don't), I wouldn't tell. Why is it any of your business?
-
Amazing, isn't it? Over the past month or so, I've submitted at least four letter to the editor in response to editorials or columns. Not one of them has made it into print.

Actually, my wife was sexually harrassed at a place where she once worked. So you strike out there. Because we worked at the same place way back then, I saw with my own eyes and heard with my own ears what was going on. She didn't have to prove anything to me. Back when I was a young man just out of college, I once had a younger relative of mine threaten to accuse me of attempting to rape her if I didn't let her drive my new car. I've been on that end of the spectrum, too. I'm quite familiar with the incident. In fact, the only time in my life I've ever been to Las Vegas was the weekend it happened. I was also a subscriber to the U.S. Naval Institute's Proceedings magazine at the time and read its detailed coverage of the incident and its aftermath. Quite obviously, the women involved deserved to win their case. But once again, you're applying one of your extremely literal interpretations to what I'm saying. I'm not claiming that sexual harrasment never happens or that there's nothing wrong with it. I'm saying that there has to be some standard of proof. Just because somebody decides to cry racism or sexism doesn't mean that you automatically allow the label to be hung on you.

I thought this quote from the university president was quite interesting: So if someone says your university is engaging in racist behavior, you just admit to it even if their's no proof to back up the accusation? If a woman accuses a man of rape, do we simply assume that the man is guilty, that his side of the story doesn't count and that whatever evidence he can present to prove his innocence doesn't matter? That's a heck of a way to run a university, Dr. Sethna.

I sent it last night, but it didn't show up on USCHO until this morning. I thought it was old news by now. Oh poop! What was I thinking? I knew Kozek scored the goal. Why did I write Watkins instead? Senility is a horrible thing. A correction has been sent.

Don't you want proof?
-
I'm glad to hear that. We can never have too much Diggler. No press box photos? What's up with that?

All I can say is that I feel a lot better about this season's team beating Manitoba 6-1 than last season's team beating them 8-3. Last year, the Sioux outshot the Bisons 24-19, which made me worried about how much offense the Sioux would generate. It was a sign of things to come. This time, the shot differential was 49-18, and if not for some great saves by Krister Toews, it could easily have been a 10-1 game.
