  1. page 100 in the new espn mag with iverson and melo on the cover

titled TEEN DREAMS. features picture and paragraph on toews, okposo, j johnson, canada goalie carey price and sweden forward backstrom

    U. OF NORTH DAKOTA/BLACKHAWKS. 2006. FIRST ROUND, JONATHAN TOEWS, C, CANADA

The concensus among scouts: He could skate into Chicago's lineup tomorrow. The prize of Winnipeg was on the ice for Canada in every key situation--power play, five-on-three PK, up a goal, down a goal--the complete skills package with no holes in his game. Before the tourney, the knock on Toews was that he was not a solid all-arounder who lacked magic. No more. He scored three times in the shootout agaainst the U.S.--glove side, stick side and on a deke. Highlight-reel stuff, all.

nothing we have not heard before but thought it was cool he got a spot in the mag.....

Is that an ESPN other U publication talking about a college hockey player?

We all know he is good, hopefully the WJHC relit the fire and spark we know he has.

  2. It would be aswome if it where to happen but it looks like the Pens are staying Pittsburgh or moving to Kansas City. Even though Winnipeg would be awsome I can see many road trips if that happens. Bombers game then MTS centre where the Pens play as there new facility is built.

  3. Thanks for posting that.

What the heck was Lawson doing on Oshie's goal? He's on the completely wrong side of the net!

I figure Ducan was down below the left circle was all that Lawson was worrying about and thinking that the D would clear out the net but obviously that didnt happen

  4. It was Rylan all the way. Refs broke it up 'cause it was too onesided!!

Ulwelling or what ever his name is also get jabbed by Kaip but there is nothing the can do about it win you go into break it up only bad things can happen

  5. Didn't we have Zelkin up here a while ago?

The first thing to do is get rid of Greg Sheppard. After that let the referee's know that they are all on probation. Promise more money to the ones that make the cut.

It's my opinion that Greg Sheppard can make a good referee bad.

I'm working on it I need to figure out how to isolate the fight there is nice camera angles for it though.

  6. That's an excellent point. Rarely is a player injured in a straight up fight. Anderson won't miss a game (other than the fighting penalty). Resorting to cheap shots during the play actually can hurt the player.

Of course the best course of action is good officiating. It's my opinion that most fights (not necessarily last nights) are caused by poor officiating. The FIRST thing that needs to be done to get fighting out of college hockey is to call the games properly and fairly. That and the sanctions against fighting that are in place today will pretty much cure any problem there is.

I'm all for a fight if it is the approprate time and the Kaip Anderson bout seemed right Anderson it appeared was trying to set Kaip off all through the first period Hacking at the back of his legs and cross checks while after the play has past. Plus from where I was sitting Porter should have been tossed for Spearing for his hit late in the 3rd since not only did he leave his feet to make contact he led with the blade of his stick. But props to Darcy for sticking up for Porter after the play ended.

  7. I didn't say that I agreed with Shepherd's decison in that case. I have criticized WCHA officiating in general and Shepherd's calls in particular many times on this board. However, going after the officials during or after a game isn't the way to solve the problem.

In that situation you demand to see the rule book and get the explanation after shepard showed you the rules

  8. What the hell is the deal with the audio feed. Games over so they have to save the batteries for the next game? For the love of god, let's quite acting like Mayville State and update our friggin' technology.

You red the Herald this today right? the liberals want to take funding away from UND

  9. Maybe some gopher alum will pony up some big bucks and bring in some high profile coaches for the basketball and football prgrams!!

How about Bobby Knight and Lou Holtz?? that would bring some excitement to the twin cities and you would have simultaneously the cleanest basketball rpogram and the dirtiest football program in the NCAA!!!

They are smart down there buyout one coach for 1.3 million now a second for 4 million

  10. If Maturi hadn't signed him to a contract extension after last season, he would probably be fired. But unless some rich alum ponies up the money to buy out his contract, I can't imagine Minnesota could afford to buy out Mason AND come up with the money to hire a new coach.

Mason is out as the head football goofer news conference at 5PM tonight

  11. Well, I said weeks ago in the WJ thread that we would get smoked, and we are. These players know they are locks for spots and don't have to work for it after the summer camp. They should be expected to "compete" for those spots right up to the end. We should at least do it the Canadian way and start camp one week early with 40-50 players and make cuts!

I remember being at the hotel that Slovakia was at for the GF WJ the final weekend of Sioux play before it started, and they still had four to send home after their exhibition games. Every practice, every shift mattered.

Our kids are too soft. used to being coddled and promised spots 2 weeks before with no consequences for poor play. It is the fault of the system. They need to be hardened by the fire of play well or go home. That certainly means both physical and mental baptism by fire, too.

USA Hockey is just not as organized as Team Cananda, plus we seem too political in our picks. Many players develop after they have been passed over by the NDTP, and usually those players are left out. Is it to make USA Hockey look good because their NDTP players are selected overwhelmingly? Don't know, but it sure looks that way to me. And it is not doing Team USA any favors.

Sounds like the Politcal Correctness be nice to everyone is starting to infiltrate our sports something is going to have to change
