  1. Before Midco decided to shut down on me for a while, I finally was able to get my first look at the team this year.

    Things I noted

-This team still is showing its youth, the 2nd set was the perfect example of this: jump out to a huge lead, and instead of slamming the door hard, MSU was able to come back to make it a semi-competitive set.

-With that said, said youth has some serious talent.  Very impressed with the freshman Place and Dominguez.

-Hart has to be the best DS in the Sky, if not top 2-3.  Can get a lot of good, clean digs and get at balls you would think would be sure points.  Gonna miss her next year.

-Moser and Dooley are solid in the middle.  I will enjoy watching them next year

-Sydney has managed to step in as setter and has had some decent success.

-Overall:  There has been some growth, but there is still some green within this team.  Good start to conference but a stiff test next Saturday at home vs ISU.  I think the team is still 1 year away from being a true contender for the Sky, but if this team gets clicking on all cylinders by November... look out Big Sky tourney.

Agree with a lot you had to say.  Feel our hitting needs to get better if we are going to make some noise this year.  Very soft hits early today vs the powerful hits coming from MSU and I think that will be exposed by ISU next Saturday.

  2. Have to believe the biggest factor in bidding Sioux Falls is the anticipated bid from Omaha in 2018. Century link is way larger than Scheels and would likely be the favorite to win that bid. But by bidding the Denny you at least improve your odds somewhat in that category.

Now on a selfish level, I hope to see 2018 awarded to either Sioux Falls or Omaha. Easy drive from Forks and there is something to be said for taking the opportunity to experience what other towns and cities have to offer.

  3. Damn it I hit the Listen Live on the UND website.....but then I don't get it......Grrrrrr

If you are logged in to your insider account, go to you profile page and make sure your audio subscription is selected.  Mine wasn't working and the problem was my audio subscription had expired (even though its free).

  4. I think Michigan Tech will be the 2 seed and Minnesota will be the 3 seed in Fargo going off of USCHO website

I sure hope it doesn't go down like this. That would mean St. Cloud would have to face another NCHC team in the 1st round. And while the rules may allow this, it would be a shame as they could easily switch Denver for Tech or St. Cloud, Harvard, & Minnesota and avoid it.

But this is the NCAA after all....

  5. I can't remember where I was a number of years ago when the MacNaughton Cup was clinched by the Sioux, but they did not give the team the cup that night. It was instead presented to the Sioux at the next home game.

That is what happened when we clinched the MacNaughton in Madison in 2009. Disappointing to say the least.

  6. I'd still probably take Nick over Rocco right now Nick just seems to be in much better position defensively most of the time and I like the way he can play along the boards while also not turning the puck over nyear as much as Rocco did.

Nick as a freshman has already exceeded what Rocco accomplished over his entire career. No disrespect to Rocco but he isn't even close to being in Nick's league.

  7. So they didn't want to risk the loss since they're sitting at the top of the PWR and the polls at the moment. I remember a North Dakota team not long ago that dress every player they had because of injuries.

Who knows how many players they actually can dress? They may only have 3 lines and 4 D-man available. Can't really expect a team to play like that, top of the PWR or not.

  8. I hope so. I thought the last time he played he looked good. Generated some offense and didn't turn the puck over but hasn't played since. Sorry but I am not a fan of what Panz brings to the table. No offensive punch and a couple penalties a game. Hard to be effective on the PK when you're the one in the box.

    Panz for President!!

  9. What a great game so far! I'm actually surprised at how 'civil' it's been, however I suppose nobody wants to put their team shorthanded. Anyone have the game DVR'd? I don't think that should have been a too many men penalty on the Sioux. When they came back from commercial they showed the replay, and one player definitely jumped out of the bench, however I only saw 4 others on the ice. Once the puck went up ice another player changed and yet another Sioux player jumped out of the box. I'd like to see a replay of this.

No it was a good call. Sioux had a player so far back into the zone that he was out of the picture.

  10. I believe the one month "dead period" on recruiting only applies to FBS schools. It was brought up in the Craig bohl discussions- that he wouldn't miss out much on Wyoming recruiting as he continues to coach the bison.

So, as every other FCS school is out working hard on recruiting, we are picking our thumbs and twiddling our a$$es, aimlessly taking our time to help assure our new coach is completely behind the 8-ball in his effort to assemble a staff and try to steal other teams' recruits.

No it applies to FCS as well. The Bohl example just happens to involve an FBS school.

  11. There is no excuse for beating someone until they are unconscious, even if that person threw the first punch. If the other person attacked, Beck should be able to defend himself. But there is a limit. Unconscious is past that limit.

Very common to see someone knocked out from just 1 punch. Now please tell me how that is past the limit? You have no control on how the events unfold after the first punch is thrown. That's why no fight is ever worth it. Even if you win you end up losing.

  12. It is so heartbreaking and frustrating to see a penalty like that MacWilliam clean hit called. I half expect it when we are out east, but this is the WCHA, you know, the conference that prepares the players for the NHL. Sad to see.

Indeed. Thing was the Tech player even turned his shoulder to brace himself before the hit. How the refs missed that is appalling.
