  1. After the non goal, the students started chanting bull S***. You should have seen the security guards run up the stairs. Really?

And btw, times have changed. For better or worse, the "f word" is used to describe anything from cool to bad things for todays students. So them chanting it isn't anything different than a normal conversation. I was reading UMD's message board and it seems like they have the same issue with the word rape. It's just a part of normal lingo for todays students.

  2. You don't think its Landry's fault what did he do in this game. Nothing. but throw a pick when we were down by 8 rolling out all day, they bring Goska in score a TD then they bring Landry in and we are now down by 15.

New flash. Goska didn't do crap the next couple of times he was in. It's fine if u think Goska is better and want Landry to sit. I'm not to pleased with the whole situation. But it's another thing to get off to him being benched. That's the difference.

  3. He was not give a game DQ, was just given a Game Misconduct as is always given with a CFB

Well they can give out game DQ's for a CFB but they are pretty rare. Although Wisc got one earlier this year.

  4. I like those numbers but they don't mean jack. Cameron Indoor at Duke holds less than 10 thousand, yet there is demand for much more than that. Florida's does hold 12,000, but Florida is just becoming a basketball school and has no tradition there. Pauley Pavilion at UCLA also holds over 12,000 and UCLA has tradition so this is surprising. Michigans holds over 13,000 but it has not been a relevant basketball school since the early 90's. So while those numbers look good, thats all they are...just numbers that can be spun in any direction.

  5. i actually brought this up a while back, and wouldn't be surprised if this happened. i hope it doesn't, but can you really blame him if he does? he needs gametime to get better and to get where he wants to be, which is in pro hockey. he obviously isn't getting any ice time here, so i wouldn't be surprised if he has thought about going elsewhere.

I can see that being an option too. However, he is the 7th man in, not 8th or 9th. If someone gets hurt, he will get to play. And not that I am hoping for it, but with how deep Chay brings in the puck and how teams like Tech were making sure to get their shots in on him, I don't see him playing every game this season. I think he is going to get nicked up for at least a series. So maybe Fienhage will get some playing time somewhere down the line. He may be waiting for that one last shot to make an impact and if it doesn't happen or doesn't come then leave after the season. Plus, this team is deep. You would hate to bail and then see them go on to do something great.

  6. At this point for Fienhage, it seems like it will take an injury or losing stretch for him to get in, neither of which are desirable, but both of which are very possible. I agree that he looked tentative, but it's understandable given how little he's played. I don't think anyone can conclude the coaches have decided he can't play - he's just behind the other guys. It's unfortunate, but his career got sidetracked last year when the team struggled in the first half; to make the NCAA tournament, they had no margin for error, and couldn't work him in. Combined with Miller's emergence, which took another blueline spot, he was the odd man out.

With a couple studs lined up for next year, it doesn't get any easier then either.

Exactly. But at some point in time, you need to start looking out for yourself. If he hasn't got playing time against Tech and UAA, its a stretch to think he will see time without an injury. I wouldn't fault him if he jumped ship after the season.

  7. - UND is still going to be losing scheduling opportunities, even if they reach a deal with the tribes (Iowa would not participate vs. UND in a swimming meet, for example)

Iowa and Wisc will play us now and I don't see why they wouldn't if we get the agreement and get off the NCAA's bad list. It remains to be seen what Minnesota would do, however.

  8. I enjoyed the dance the student section was doing to one of the band's songs. How did that get started? I noticed that by Saturday a lot of other people were doing it as well.

The band has been doing it for the last couple of years. Towards the end of last year, some students started doing it as well. And now this year, everyone seems to be doing it. Some gopher fans sitting next to us remarked "I didn't know we were in Madison."

  9. I thought Eidsness cost the Sioux the game when he over played the puck. There was no reason to come out of the net to play that puck. Don't get me wrong I think Eidsness has a lot of talent but his game has some flaws that he needs to work on.

    He's the new Stalock Stalock.

  10. Pondering my notion a little further ...

Why not sell student lower bowl hockey tickets as a package to the students like now, with the whole "camp out in line" thing.

But, why not have the upper bowl hockey tickets be given out at the preceding home FB or BB game.

For Friday's Gopher hockey game you'd have had to attend the FB game v. Stony Brook. (Last FB/BB game before that day.)

For Saturday's Gopher hockey game you'd have had to attend the FB game v. USF.

Want to see UND v. Wisconsin in hockey on Dec 11 or 12?

You'd have to either go to the M/WBB games on Nov 29 or the M/WBB games on Dec 7/8. (I'd pick "give away" games to be the ones being televised on FCS so you have a better looking crowd on national TV.)

    It's a pretty simple plan.

    Would never fly.

    1. REA would never go for this. They used to put single game upper bowl tickets on sale a week or 2 before the game. Whatever tickets were not sold went on sale to the general public a couple of days before the game. However, a couple days notice wasn't enough for the public. It resulted in tickets being unsold. REA did not like this (and for good reason). So they then put all student upper bowl tickets on sale on 1 date at the beginning of the year. Students have up to one month before the game to pick them up. Any unsold then go to the general public one month before the game. This has resulted in almost all of the tickets being sold. No way should they go back to a different system that wouldn't allow this to happen.

    2. Students do have jobs and other things (labs, studying) that prevent them from attending every sporting event. To force them to attend events they don't want to go to just so they can attend ones they do seems pretty weak. Now if you want to come up with a system that give better seats to students based on their attendance at other events, fine. But to penalize students by not giving them tickets just because they have to work during their college years seems very unfair.

  11. There are people calling this the worst loss in UND history... just based upon the actual talent on the field, I don't even think it's the worst loss in the last 5 years. The 2005 loss to a far inferior UNO team when UND blew a 19 point lead and a national championship season was much worse if you ask me.

But at least that was just a fourth quarter collapse. The team never even showed up on Sat. Kinda like the SUU game last year. Just went through the motions since we had beat them in Utah the year before. Ended up losing a game that should have been an easy win.

  12. On days like this (two in a day), how hard would it be to set up a simple student promo:

    Come to the football game.

Starting after the 3rd quarter UND stamps student hands (green ink, unique pattern) and that moves them to the front of the entrance line to the hockey game.

Basically, make the waiting line for the hockey game the student section of the football game.

If the students complain, tell them it's warmer and drier than outside. :silly:

(You guys are so **** lucky I don't charge you for these simple ideas.)

Dang it I had a similar idea but you beat me too it. Actually, the groundwork is already laid for this. On Sat, REA came out and handed blue tickets with numbers on them to students waiting in line. The tickets allowed students to go to the womens game and then get back in line after it was done. It was a great idea, probably the first one ever to come out of that building. If it can be done for that, I think something similar can be done for football.

I think the stamp system would work the best. Face it, even if you aren't a football fan, sitting in the AL seems a lot more comfortable than standing outside. Plus, I think its an incentive for students to wake up early. Knowing that in order to get a good seat for hockey that you need to get up for the football game would be a big deal. I think we would see increased student section attendance. If students would have known that they could go to the front of the gopher line without waiting in it just for going to a fb game, I think the student section may have been full.

As for attendance for Cal-Poly, I hope for the best. I know it Halloween but I really hope the students show up. The game gets over at 7. Plenty of time to go out after, so there is no excuse not to show.

  13. -derick sheptard

    -Marco Hunt

Hunt was the chief moron last night.

I actually thought they were fairly good. I didn't really have much to gripe about. And who would have thought I would have said that about a Shep reffed games just a couple of years ago. He's really improved in the last couple of years.

  14. I agree and said before BU and BC ahve survived with or without the WCHA and or Minnesota and Wisconsin so I think UND would be fine without them.

Care to elaborate on this? How does BU or BC even come into this discussion? They are major eastern powers. Of course they can survive without the WCHA. Nobody ever said college hokcey ran through Minn and Wisc. Western college hockey? Maybe. College hockey in general? No.

  15. Which is one of the reasons why I was against expansion, which wasn't a popular position on this board. I'm not saying UW and UM should be able to call all of the shots in the WCHA, but I think when you're talking about something as major as expansion, the league needed to think really hard about going forward without support from both of those schools. Those schools are unique and situated differently than the rest of the schools in WCHA. Like it or not, they just are. They have options UND just doesn't have. I think it's now pretty obvious that Wisconsin did not agree with this expansion.

Nothing is guaranteed and things change. It would not be prudent to assume that, no matter what, UND is going to be at the top of the college hockey world, sell out most of its games, and make a lot money. It hasn't been all that long since the early 90s when UND was playing in front of 3,000 fans. If there is a perception that UND hockey is no longer big-time and plays in a second-rate league, that will negatively impact interest and attendance.

IMO, you're probably right that the Big Ten Hockey Conference would not be a fatal blow. UND could still schedule non-conference games against other big-time programs to keep interest relatively high. But losing two Division I Big Ten teams from your own conference, including your undisputed biggest rival, would be a significant and noticeable blow.

Very true. I also don't think UND would be in as bad as shape as other WCHA teams, but I can't imagine how the formation of the BTHC helps or at the very least does not hurt UND. Maybe it would be good for college hockey. Maybe it wouldn't. But there is only downside from UND's point of view.

  16. The decreased revenue is due to? 2 new teams? Minny leaving and having to play the Final 5 in a smaller venue? Please explain.

If I understand the revenue sharing correctly, all first round playoff gates and the Final Five gates are shared between the schools in the league. Minn and UW have the 1st and 3rd largest arenas in the league and normally both host playoff series. If they leave, their spots as hosts will be filled by schools that likely have half of the capacity as those 2 rinks. Revenues will take a hit. Then at the Final Five, there is no doubt that UND and Minn fans make up the majority of attendees. Take Minn away, and I doubt the X would sell out. UND fans travel well as does UMD and to some extent SCSU, but losing a base as big as Minn would affect attendance. Plus you would lose walkup sales of general hockey fans living in the cities that may not be big Minn supporters. This of course is assuming it still stays at the X. DU and CC may push to get it moved to Denver (which I think would make the situation even worse) or Omaha (still not ideal). Either way, revenues would decrease, which could make Tech look for other options. However, I don't think the CCHA would be on much better ground after losing their big dogs as well.
