I blame Hak for this loss. I am sick of him changing the lines every night, how do you develop any type of consistency with your lines? I know what he is doing, he is giving everyone a chance to get some ice time now and try somethings out, and hopefully everyone will be ready to go with the season really starts after Christmas, like he has been doing the last four years, but when tonight would of been a huge win, why not leave your line up the exact same the night before, with the exception of blood playing (I had no problem with him getting time)? I mean it doesn't take that bright of a hockey expert to see how bad kozek and malone and watty play when they have new lines every night, you can through in zajac too, when these players have different lines game in and game out, they can't develop let alone sustain any consistency. This is a joke to me, but hey I am no Hak, nor the coach. He's done this before in the past, I am just having a hard time seeing this night go to waste....

LaPoint:
There is a reason he is here at UND. It's starting out the same way everyone talked about Finley. Now, he isn't here due to an injury, and he is missed. I feel for Derrick, having to scrub off all those bus tire tracks every night he plays.

Produce or live up to your potential enough said. Everyone knows he (Derrick)is capable of being a lot better. We just haven't seen it yet and we are waiting.......

Wow, nice win by the boys. Who would of thought they would of put up 7 goals against Cornell? Nice to see a well played full 60 minutes. Nice to see Mario in the line-up I really like his presence out there. Lapoint, I am sorry but you need to sit out, Blood plays tonight, and Cory Finaage, in my mind had a solid game last night for not playing in a game in awhile. It's nice to Frats step up, yesterday was Fratty Fratturday! I knew this kid had a bomb of a shot, so when he wasn't scoring I thought, is he really a bust or is he in one bad slump? I would say 5 goals in the last 3 games, that it was just a bad slump. Last but not least, Eideness played really well, first goal was one of the softest goals he has given up, but he responded well after that goal. Now the real question is can we get a sweep tonight and actually be happy with this team for a weekend? Tonight we shall See.........

Before you get all in a tizzy...I went through the "What if" and came up with the following based on what has happened thus far, this year I had figured the Gophers would start slow and finish fast based on youth and schedule. They have to get more balanced scoring to remain on top. AA has been a nice surprise. Mankato, SCSU and Wisconsin have been disappointments because of the inconsistencies for me. I thought UND would start slow and maybe make a typical UND late surge. I don't see it when Mankato, @AA, CC and @Wisco are your final four series. 8 points would be a very successful run there I think. Tech is the only likely sweep. Again, this is based on what I have seen so far. BE has been solid in the net and better than I thought he would be coming into the year. If he can make the progression similar to Kangas last year, I could see you getting to the 5th spot. Gotta score to win games. Gophers fought that every weekend last year. Even they got into the tourney and that's all that matters, new season.
I have a split in the Gopher/Sioux series.
WCHA Final
Team GP Pts
UMN 28 41
CC 28 37
Denver 28 37
Mankato 28 33
AA 28 28
UW 28 26
UND 28 25
SCSU 28 24
UMD 28 16
MTech 28 13
Rip away...lets see your too.

Not to a be a jerk, but you are an idiot, Wisconsin will not be higher then the Sioux and UAA. I watched Wisconsin pretty hard when the Sioux played them, they are god awful, I know the Sioux are struggling and aren't that great right now, but Sconnie is serious brutal with their defensive system and lack of scoring, they don't have any real true offensive talent on that team, "big names" on the o side.

A lot of interesting scores from the WCHA last night. I would of never guess Alaska upsetting Colorado College. St. Cloud also destroyed the Badgers. Looking at the current standings in the WCHA, most teams have about 4 losses, other then the current unstoppable Minnesota Gophers (which I don't really care for, and we'll see how they are at the end of the year). I think the Sioux tonight need a must win, I hope they rock their black jersey's and realize it's all business tonight. I see the Sioux ending up in the top 4 of the WCHA this year, which is fine for them and they will go on a great run into the WCHA Final Five tourney, and the National one as well. As long as they get healthy and keep getting good play from the freshman and continue to improve, I don't see any reason why this team can't compete/beat any team in the nation.
How would you guys rank your pre-season WCHA standings now after a few games in the conference has been played?

It is actually tough to read the article. Souix?? Try Sioux! What a waste of the public education system. Too many other spelling and grammatical errors to even start putting them all down. There was really nothing in that blog that was "new" news. In his profile, it says his location is Grand Forks. Buddy, you live in Grand Forks and are trying to write a blog article. Don't be disrespectful and at least spell SIOUX right!
I did not not notice that the person spelled "Sioux" wrong, that is pretty pathetic. Nice job pointing that out.

I knew this team could play alongside with anyone as long as they played better team defense and played a full 60 minutes. This sioux team has tons of depth which is a great thing, malone and frats sit out and the team doesn't miss a beat without those two players in the line up. That is something special there. Also big Joe has still yet to play, despite peoples love hate relation of Joe, he will be a critical asset to the team. He is big and has a long stick that can be utilized a lot on the penalty kill and other key scenarios. All in all, a great win and go sioux tonight! Sweep, boom baby!

Whoever that girl Zach is with needs to eat something.
Nasty...
Well said, I totally agree. Women these days..... ;(

I think you guys should of had 4. You have a very solid team there, great passing, good puck handling. I like Lofquist's spirit for a freshman. Stoa's backhand 6 seconds in was pretty awesome. It could be ugly in January at the Ralph (especially without the students there).
UW's team lacks crisp passes. Many times during the PP they would lose the puck back into the neutral zone. Stick handling isn't that great either. Gardiner seems to be pretty solid. I'm sure after last years battles, Coach Eaves will have these guys geared up for a battle this weekend, but anything less than a sweep would be dissapointing I think.
Who are you kidding? The true die hard fans and students will be there, it will be lights out!

They might have $16 of mine, too. The first time I clicked continue, nothing happened and the page locked up. We'll see what shows up on my statement.
I had to rebut the first game. Totally gay, they better refund my first 8 dollars. Go Sioux!
-
This team will be deep, I love what was displayed. We will have more options of great d-man and forwards, and great players will have to be scratched. I think this is the most balanced team I've seen in a while. We have everyone role of player you would need. This should as always be an interesting year. I expect banner #8 with this class of freshman not playing like freshman all year!

I think originally they were going to have an online sale today and then make them available at the box offices tomorrow onwords. However, after realizing that some people don't have credit/debit cards and having all the gopher tickets sold online would mean none of these students could get them, they decided to have the sale at the box office today and tomorrow onwords. So I think they totally scrapped the online sale and they go on sale today at 12 at REA and tomorrow at the Union, REA, and the Fritz box offices.
It's absolutely ridiculous that some College kids at UND do not have debit/credit cards.... once your 18 and you move on out of mommy and daddy's basement its time to grow up! I just don't understand it!

Not only does www.fightingsioux.com have Women's hockey for the splash page, they had this article about the start of women's hockey the other day.
Nice to see them supporting WH with the spalsh page plus they were advertising the game on the electronic billboard on Demers and Washington today. I hope that they continue to support the team and try to build up attendance throughout the year!!!
My dream is that they eventually get the UND/OSU game on the FSSN in the future. If they ad/push the fact that OSU is part of the WCHA for women's hockey I think they could draw some decent crowds. How many times a year does OSU come to the Dakotas for games of any sport? This would be a good game of any of the women's games to get on the FSSN. Advertising that OSU is part of the WCHA for women's hockey will just add to the WCHA. And if they could get this game on the FSSN, encourage the fans to sit on the west side to make the arena look fuller, and giving discounted tickets to girls hockey teams in the region to come to the game to help fill it up is only going to help.
Recruit: shoudl I go to SCSU, MSU, or UMD or go to UND where I can play in the Ralph, get X amount of games on TV and be a roll model to all of the girls in the state?
I will help pay to get women's hockey of the FSSN if that is what it takes!
Not trying to knock women's hockey. but I hope you have some deep pockets my friend

Hands down winner here...the intro to warmups should be Welcome to the North by The Music...It is an absolutely perfect intro song for UND Fighting Sioux Hockey.
Nice.... I digg!
-
I agree that it's rather disappointing they aren't televising more football games. I wonder if this game will truly be a FSSN broadcast or if they will just be picking up the SD feed. It was posted earlier that USD will be televising the rest of their home football games on the Midcontinent channel (Channel 23).
It's simple logic, you televise home games, less people fill up the Alerus. That is the sole reason behing not haveing telvised home games. You can look up the data from past years when they had more games televised.

The 70's and 80's arena rock anthems seem to work best at sporting events. No need to fix what isn't broken.
You DaveK of all people would say that, quit thinking closed minded!
-
I think that the Ralph, needs to start incorporating new songs at hockey games, while I love the old rock music of 80's and your classic AC/DC stuff, in 2008 we need to add some new stuff with the currently crop of music out there.
My suggestions:
1. Some Audioslave
2. The Let It Rock Song with Kim Rundolph and Lil Wayne - I know this song will get old but at the hockey games it would get the crowd going
3. Incubus - anything
4. Trapt, another song besides "Headstrong", yes they have other good pump up songs....examples "Stand up"
5. Kanye West's new song "Love Lockdown" sweet beat to get the crowd going
6. Muse
7. Foo Fighters
8. The Raconteurs
9. 30 Second to Mars
10. Starting Line - "Island (Float Away"
11. Linkin Park - Anything on Minute to midnights album
What do you guys think?

yes, really, what does the swift jerseys have to do with a jersey im selling personally?
is a comment really needed like that if you are not interested?? not a big deal but just curious? ive sold and boughten many game worn jerseys over the years, thanks though
ive paid under that price for sioux game worn jerseys and double that price for a few sioux game worn jerseys. i wil leave it at that.Did those jerseys really have that design gap on the sides of them, for that game? That jersey looks like a cheap repleca, even thought I know it is legit, I think the sides look absoltley cheap!

So everyone should just expect to be ripped off because they are attending a game. Your already paying for the ticket and they still rape you on anything else you buy. I have lived in Seattle and Houston and going to a pro game at either place is roughly the same cost in spite of the fact that it cost about twice as much to live in Seattle. I think at a UND football game it is a little foolish to charge that much for popcorn, especially considering it is almost all profit and UND isn't the NFL or Major college football. I only paid around $20 bucks to go watch Rice or UH games in Houston and when I looked at tickets before season start last year it was between $30-$40 at UW.
If they sold products a little cheaper they would likely sell more, keep people happy, and make as much or more money anyway. For myself I will not pay that price for popcorn because it isn't worth the price to me, but if it was more reasonable I would and I think a lot of people are like that. It isn't really about the money as much as it is a feeling of being taken advantage of.
If UND athletics was making all the profit from concessions I would be more willing to pay a higher price, but I don't think thats the case. Does anyone actually know who is making the profit from Alerus concessions?
I never said that people should be expected to be ripped off while attending a Fighting Sioux Football Game. That's just how things work at the Alerus with some concession items and it's the way it is get over it and move on it's a part of life there are a million other things where a fan or consumer is getting taking of. Sorry, obviously wasn't a rant just an perspective on the guys comment. Now with you saying "if they sold products a little cheaper they would likely sell more, obvioulsy I am glad you understand some economics, in reality though, when your dealing with a profoit margin and costs that would be the most uneducated soltuion to the problem. $4.50 for a large tub is not that much.... what are you paying for a large popcorn at a movie if you have the desire to fork over the money and indulge in the large popcorn.....probably the samething. Then again a large tub of popcorn at the Alerus or at a movie theather..... is a hell of a lot popcorn and probably not a healthy conscious decison but that is a story for another day my friend.

Random thoughts and comments...
1) Two games...zero sacks for the defense. ZERO.
2) Freund showed good mobility.
3) Hellavang plays like Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde. He would have had three kickoffs go out of bounds in a row but the SCSU player caught the third before it had the chance.
4) Did anyone else hear the referee make a serious mistake when announcing which team would receive the ball to start the second half? Mr. Referee...I award you the IGIT OF THE GAME AWARD. Congratulations!
5) The seats in the Alerus don't seem very comfortable after running a half-marathon.
6) Brady Trenbeath received the Player of the Game award...he should have won last week as well.
7) "Offensive line has been unimpressive, especially in run-blocking, through 2 games"...per bincitysioux.
8) Poor tackling in the second half.
9) $4.50 for a tub of buttered popcorn?
10) The Blue Moose burger is a work of art.
GO SIOUX
I think you have the typical North Dakota persona of let's bitch and complain about anything with money. While I realize a tub of popcorn might be $4.50 get over yourself, go to any other Big Time Division I school, oh yeah.... then you'll be paying $50-$80 a ticket and I think you get the point. Not trying to be harsh, but it seems everyone complains if something isn't free while attending a Fighting Sioux Football Game. Going to a game is one of the cheapest things of entertainment around. You have people giving out free posters and other free promotions that are "free" and mid 30 to 40 year old couples bitch and think that these people giving these things out are tyring to sell them something. Rant over/ not trying to be hard on you - Jusy Saying

Not sure if it has been mentioned or not, but it looks like Darcy Zajac will be attending Chicago's Prospect Camp this year:
The camp runs July 7-11
