  1. So everyone should just expect to be ripped off because they are attending a game. Your already paying for the ticket and they still rape you on anything else you buy. I have lived in Seattle and Houston and going to a pro game at either place is roughly the same cost in spite of the fact that it cost about twice as much to live in Seattle. I think at a UND football game it is a little foolish to charge that much for popcorn, especially considering it is almost all profit and UND isn't the NFL or Major college football. I only paid around $20 bucks to go watch Rice or UH games in Houston and when I looked at tickets before season start last year it was between $30-$40 at UW.

If they sold products a little cheaper they would likely sell more, keep people happy, and make as much or more money anyway. For myself I will not pay that price for popcorn because it isn't worth the price to me, but if it was more reasonable I would and I think a lot of people are like that. It isn't really about the money as much as it is a feeling of being taken advantage of.

If UND athletics was making all the profit from concessions I would be more willing to pay a higher price, but I don't think thats the case. Does anyone actually know who is making the profit from Alerus concessions?

I never said that people should be expected to be ripped off while attending a Fighting Sioux Football Game. That's just how things work at the Alerus with some concession items and it's the way it is get over it and move on it's a part of life there are a million other things where a fan or consumer is getting taking of. Sorry, obviously wasn't a rant just an perspective on the guys comment. Now with you saying "if they sold products a little cheaper they would likely sell more, obvioulsy I am glad you understand some economics, in reality though, when your dealing with a profoit margin and costs that would be the most uneducated soltuion to the problem. $4.50 for a large tub is not that much.... what are you paying for a large popcorn at a movie if you have the desire to fork over the money and indulge in the large popcorn.....probably the samething. Then again a large tub of popcorn at the Alerus or at a movie theather..... is a hell of a lot popcorn and probably not a healthy conscious decison but that is a story for another day my friend.

  2. Random thoughts and comments...

    1) Two games...zero sacks for the defense. ZERO.

    2) Freund showed good mobility.

    3) Hellavang plays like Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde. He would have had three kickoffs go out of bounds in a row but the SCSU player caught the third before it had the chance.

    4) Did anyone else hear the referee make a serious mistake when announcing which team would receive the ball to start the second half? Mr. Referee...I award you the IGIT OF THE GAME AWARD. Congratulations!

    5) The seats in the Alerus don't seem very comfortable after running a half-marathon.

    6) Brady Trenbeath received the Player of the Game award...he should have won last week as well.

    7) "Offensive line has been unimpressive, especially in run-blocking, through 2 games"...per bincitysioux.

    8) Poor tackling in the second half.

    9) $4.50 for a tub of buttered popcorn?

    10) The Blue Moose burger is a work of art.

    GO SIOUX

I think you have the typical North Dakota persona of let's bitch and complain about anything with money. While I realize a tub of popcorn might be $4.50 get over yourself, go to any other Big Time Division I school, oh yeah.... then you'll be paying $50-$80 a ticket and I think you get the point. Not trying to be harsh, but it seems everyone complains if something isn't free while attending a Fighting Sioux Football Game. Going to a game is one of the cheapest things of entertainment around. You have people giving out free posters and other free promotions that are "free" and mid 30 to 40 year old couples bitch and think that these people giving these things out are tyring to sell them something. Rant over/ not trying to be hard on you - Jusy Saying

  3. The sioux are skating hard, I'll give them that, but Phil needs to make those saves on two of those three goals. This will be a tough hill to climb, it will be a shootout if anything like the previous two years against BC.

  4. Thoughts:

The Sioux got outplayed and lacked scoring chances. NH is a pretty good team and generated more scoring chances, but Phil played one hell of a game. Phil played very well and was easily the player of the game, if not for him NH should of won the game. The powerplay for the Sioux is still very inconsistent and is lacking getting shots to the net. For some reason this year, Chorney is so hesitant to shoot the puck on the powerplay and even on some other offensive plays, I wish he would just put the puck on net.

Tomorrow will be a hard fought game, a sweep would be huge right now. I see tomorrows night game being very close. Keep lines how they were tonight, even though I am not in favor of them in the long run. Nice to see the team get a win tonight, but they have a long way to go to develop into the team that we think this team can be.

    Win on Saturday for once...............Please!!!!!

  5. Alright, time for some thoughts on the weekend...and no one roll their eyes. I'll be objective as possible.

After watching the Gophers play on T.V. so far this year, i figured we were gonna see a team that was a lot worse than what we saw this weekend. They were pretty good. But pretty good is it. The sioux were outplayed for AT LEAST 105 of the 120 minutes this weekend. They were faster, worked harder, beat us to nearly EVERY foot race and were so so much stronger in the corners that it all most made me sick. If their defense played at about a 7 on the weekend, ours played at about a 2. No excuse for the odd-man rushes...if you try to pinch and miss the puck...take the body. Not hard. Bina is torched because of this frequently and is behind the play often. Finley played alright and he was the best on the ice tonight at D. And he only played alright.

The forwards are a mess. Vandy mentioned after the game that the sioux just weren't getting the bounces. Well...they were because had they not been getting the bounces it was a 4-0 game and not a 4-3 game. All three goals were on broken plays and fortunate bounces. Absolutely zero production from anyone but the Oshie line. Someone mentioned that a hurt Oshie is still the best forward for the Sioux and thats dead on. Some of these forwards are young..but not all. Miller isn't, Kaip isn't, Martens isn't, Kozek and Watkins aren't. Our forward group isn't very good and doesn't create anything. Couple that will an effort that left something to be desired and your just flat out screwed.

Good news? Plenty of time to right the ship. Yeah yea we've seen this before...their just building up for a late season run. But they don't have a Stafford and Travis Zajac from 05' or a healthy Toews for the stretch run like last year. And i stress Travis on the Zajac because Darcy was the worst player on the ice by leaps and bounds this weekend. Here's to turning it around and fast because we were awful fortunate for a split this weekend.

    Rant Over

I agree, pretty good reflection of the game and the weekend in general by soohockey. After seeing both games I think that the sioux were very lucky to come away with a win Friday night. This team is just lacking in so many phases of the game to be consider an above average WCHA team. The lack of offense and excitement that this team creates for me is hard to watch. This team lacks a lot of key elements of past great Sioux teams. A few things that really bother me are the breakouts and transitioning and along with that, puck possession. This team doesn't have the smooth breakouts and passing skills of forming teams as well as an effective offense attack. This team is a one line team with Oshie, Duncan, and Vandy, after that the offense just tails off and is really ineffective and cannot generate scoring chances.

Also, the powerplay looked so out of synch and has all year. With all the skill out there on that first powerplay unit, I really don't understand why the powerplay in general hasn't been more effective. For the second powerplay unit, all I have to say is find the right people for it and stick with them. I am sick of seeing different players playing on the second powerplay unit one night and then the next night rolls around and we see someone else. I could be wrong on this, but wasn't Martens on the second powerplay unit friday night and then tonight he was obviously a scratch? Talk about not developing consistency let a lone chemistry with a unit when you have different players on that unit every game. I am not Hak, but I think with this team the way it is you have to have Frattin, Kaip, Trupp, and then Genoway and develop Marto on that second powerplay unit, those are your best options of players and talent to give this team somewhat a more realistic powerplay unit that may generate scoring chances when out there.

  6. Tonight proves that some people think this team is a little to good. It's early in the year, but after watching this performance there are many aspects of the game that the team needs to work on. Defensively the team doesn't look good. The team also needs to start finding chemistry with its lines. Another thing is the team needs to find the right people for the second powerplay unit, I would like to see Trupp and Frattin out there and then at point you need to have Lapoint with Chay or develop Marto to play with Chay. Finely isn't powerplay material, that isn't his game.

  7. Well, 8 games in, they are 4-3-1, and Lee has 1-8-9 in points, with a +3. Pretty good for a rookie, I'd say.

Seems like Brain is doing pretty well, funny how some people didn't care that he left. He would of been big for the sioux this year!

  8. Exactly, it's a 2-game stint so he doesn't have to pass through waivers.

Drew with the GWG for the Sabres tonight.

And, I'm heading home to Jersey at the ass-crack of dawn tomorrow for the opening of the Devils new arena. I'll try and get some pics of Zach and Travis. I have a feeling Jordan will be there too since he's hurt.

Just saw Drew's game winner on fox sports net, pretty lucky game winner to say the least.

  9. That line with Toews and Kane is amazing. I watched the game on Saturday, when the Hawks were playing the Leafs the chances that the line creates every shift is fun to watch. Kane and Toews will battle for the Calder trophy. It's too bad that the older players on the hawks can't do half the things that Kane and Toews are doing for the blackhawks. The young kids are leading by example.

  10. Wasn't at the game, but heard Marto looked pretty good at defense, what are your people thoughts about his play? I see Marto playing a lot and see maybe Jones sitting or someone at forward being a scratch. People on this years squad will be battling for spots, should be interesting.

  11. On the right wing, the Flyers boast a group that includes Upshall, Joffrey Lupul, Stefan Ruzicka and Darren Reid. The latter two played most of last season with the Phantoms and may do so again if prospects Claude Giroux and Steve Downie make strong impressions at training camp. Another youngster, Andreas Nodl, is likely to return to the University of North Dakota

Didn't know we had St. Clouds Andreas Nodl on this years squad lol, gotta love NHL.com news and timely mistakes with College hockey players.

  12. I'm not concerned about this at all, even if they don't sign Hak.

Dean Blais wants the job back in two years. I have some creditable inside information. He will obviously coach the new Fargo Junior team for a year or two, but speculation is that Dean will be back at the University of North Dakota. Hak better win his National Championship this year to solidify his spot as a coach. We, as people need to realize how bless we have had in terms of recruiting and players in the last five years and haven't won a National Championship. Players consists of, Zach Parise, Brady Murray, Travis Zajac, Drew Stafford, Matt Grenne, Matt Smaby, Jordan Parise Jonny Toews, the list goes on and on. I know National Championship are earned and not just given out, but with this years team and the recruiting classes coming in I hope they finally get # 8. The only reason I can't think that we haven't won yet is the curse of the Ralph and logo lol. of yeah

  13. my vote is for kozek. i think he brings a lot to the table. if he can find the back of the net more cosistantly... thats the question. i think the freshmen listed would be great on the 2nd line together with VV, perhaps.

I'll bet my life it will be either Trupp or Frattin. Kozek will stick to his checking line role, even if he stars out with Oshie and Duncan he will not end up remaining with that line. Oshie and Duncan should dominate with Trupp on their line, he is a highly skilled forward who has good vision and is a very impressive skater, he should be ablel to keep up with those two guys. I would have to see Frattin live to see where he stands, I know he can score and has a wicked shot, I just need to seem his on ice presence and vison as well as skating, none the less he is going to be a pretty good player this year for the sioux, I'd say 10-15 goals in that kid.
