  1. They haven't scheduled them non conference now so I don't know why they would jump at the chance to schedule them if the situation was any different.

Well, if you've ever smelled the smell of $$$, and if this possibility ever came about, given, that the two teams were on the list and wanted to schedule Minnesota or Wisconsin, the money game always wins. This PC (personal computer lol  ) bull$%!# issue would be thrown out the window.

  2. Its easy to say that when they are not on the list. It's a pretty weak argument your trying to make in my opinion.

Well imho, I'm not looking for an argument. And I know for a fact, that both Minnesota and Wisconsin wouldn't shy away from scheduling those games, if both Florida and Utah weren't' on the list. Let's call a spade and spade, and you know that this bull$%!# is bull$%!#.

  3. Neither one of those programs is under sanction by the NCAA.

    Ours is.

    Big difference.

Right, but if both institutions (Florida and Utah) were under sanctions, obviously they're not and they never will be, but if they were, Minnesota and Wisconsin wouldn't schedule a game in football with those two teams? I called bull$%!# on that. They'd schedule that gosh darn game in a friggen heartbeat!

  4. So are you trying to tell me that Wisconsin and/or Minnesota wouldn't play Florida State or the Utah Utes if the opportunity provided itself in a non-conference matchup during the regular season in Football?

If both programs wouldn't, wow are they stupid!!!

I just don't get this crap, it's so stupid.

  5. Off the top of my head, Leopold, Martin, Ballard, Johnson, Goligoski, Leddy, Bickel, Ness, and Fairchild have all played in the NHL this season.

The best part of that list is all those players and some great (Leopold, Martin Goligoski, probably the best) are all over shadowed for their lack of physical presence on the ice. There's no surprise why the Pens kept some grittier D' man and skilled ones, Letang comes to mind over those former Gopher players who spent time with the Penquins.

Great offensive ceiling and high IQ's of the game, but play a soft game. Those guys won't help Team USA fulfill the dream of winning a gold at the next olympics.

  6. If Gopher players are so soft like you claim, then why has the U had 9 different defenseman play in the NHL this season compared to the amount of Sioux d-men playing in the league. It's not even close.

Yep, Nick Leddy, Keith Ballard, Aaron Ness (to be fair, just got his shot in the NHL, very surprised, not size ready for the NHL or NHL worthy) Stu Bickel, a goon/fighter. not that great.

I do respect Paul Martin and Leopold. Who else am I missing?

Oh, Eric Johnson, he's decent, but nothing great. I thought he'd be a lot better. Being a right handed shot in the NHL has a lot of advantages, but he's not even in the top 5 best right handed D'men in the league.

    Who else?

  7. Didn't he lead the team in goals? And Bjugstad does not play like a pansy as you say. Its bizarre how every Sioux fan just assumes that if he plays for the Gophers, he's soft. Nelson is very good, but he's not on the level of Bjugstad right now. Not yet anyways.

Not bizarre, that Sioux fans think gophers play soft, it's a fact of life. However, in the last few years they've recruited and developed some gritty players, more so than in the past. I'll give them that.

Still, watching a Gopher game/s and I do, I enjoy college hockey, it's pretty funny to see the "Minnesota tough mentality" try and come out.

  8. Why is he a prima donna? Because he plays for the Gophers? If there's a more NHL ready forward in the country than Bjugstad I certainly haven't seen him.

If Brock Nelson didn't get hurt right after high school and had the summer to lift weights and to add strength in addition to last year when he got banged up at the World Juniors and that delayed him as well, he is the better forward. If you haven't seen a better forward in the country, well it will/ soon to be Brock Nelson. He's got the higher skill set and ceiling than Bjugstad. Just needs to add strength.

Better player in speed, playmaking, hockey sense/IQ and on pace to developing a better shot. Brock will be a better pro. Sorry for ruining your high horse Buckysieve. Next debate.

Oh, last thing, He (Brock) doesn't play like a pansy. He's got that edge that Bjugstad doesn't have, just look at Nick's World Junior play this year :whistling:

  9. Do all conference tourneys happen the week before regionals? What could they possibly be discussing, if NCHC is a second rate league? I am starting to wonder.

Yeah... OK. 13,000 Sioux fans will come down no matter what. You're not going to get that out of any Big Ten fan base other than the Gopher fans at the Big Ten Tournament and that's only given because it's in St. Paul. Have the Big Ten tournament in Wisconsin or elsewhere, and you'd only get a few thousand gopher fans to travel and show up. That's a fact, anyone else who argues or says differently, I don't want to hear it.

  10. I am a die hard UND hockey fan but also a die hard FB, VB, MBB, WBB, Swimming, Baseball, Track and University fan. This is as important for hockey's future as it is for FB, BB etc. Some don't see it because they refuse to believe what those in the know are telling them. Frank Burgraff is maybe a hockey only guy. He doesn't remember or probably doesn't care about all of the Sioux FB, BB, Baseball, Track coaches who went to bat for Gino when Miller was not going to give hime a shot at the hockey job. Those guys are not UND hockey nor is anyone person. UND hockey is about all of those guys, coaches, cheerleaders, fans who supported the team over the years to enable them to be in a position to win 7 championships. I will remember Frank's stance and how it is hurting UND but I don't want anything bad to happen to hockey. I didn't like Haks email to support the flawed legislation but I want him t continue as our coach and I hope he wins 3 or 4 championships before he is done. I hope people closer to him than we are will remind him how UND athletics is a family who have benfited from the successes of each other over the years and we may need his help lobbying hockey fans to defeat this measure. I would guess he speaks to other college coaches who see no problems with the NCAA sanctions. UND administrators speak to college presidents and AD's and seem to be learning otherwise. This is a University matter and it is as important to the future of hockey as it is to the other sports. We simply can't afford to be sanctioned by the NCAA.

With over 80 years of excellence, success and tradition as being the "Fighting Sioux", I'll never get the big picture I guess.

Clap for them, clap for them!

I've seen it and heard all before.

  11. You are a really smart guy. If athletic departments around the country went by your idea, there would be 1, maybe 2 sports at each college because 95% of them lose money. It's pretty obvious to everybody but you that college athletic departments are built around giving student athletes the opportunity to play sports at the collegiate level, whether their chosen program is fiscally viable or not. Somehow these schools have made it work for over 100 years.

You don't think I'm aware of the % that colleges loose money with other sports? Your comment/responses are worthless. If I were you, I'd quit posting on this board for the day. You're only hurting any credibility that you may have had.

  12. At different times the basketball and football programs have both been bigger at UND than the hockey program. There is a good chance that one or both could reach that level again. Everything in sports goes in cycles.

And even the hockey program is going to be affected by this issue. Losing historic rivals is going to hurt. It could hurt recruiting, it could hurt ticket sales. The NCAA has talked at times about returning the first round of the playoffs to the campus sites. UND would not be able to host those if they happen. The new hockey conference could adopt the same policy of limiting playoff hosting. Other conferences have adapted similar NCAA policies. The hockey program will be affected by this policy.

Tell me more, you seem like you're an "expert" and know all the variables and indications. Impressive. You tell 'em!

  13. At least you admitted it.

So in your eyes, athletic departments around the country should sacrifice sports #2-16 at any time if it will benefit sport #1? Interesting theory.

I not looking it as a theory, I'm looking it as a bottom line issue. NCAA schools across the nation are losing too much money providing the opportunity and these kids playing sports, such as baseball, football, golf, (I;m speaking in terms of smaller college btw) that really bring no ROI to the school, the only value is the supporting value to the kids that play those spots and meet great friends and get to travel to wonderful location in the country and to meet/compete against students from all over.

I wouldn't hire you as an employee. You belong working for a non-profit.

  14. So its all about hockey and protecting their Division I legacy. The rest of the sports can do whatever they want.

    Got it, thanks.

You're welcome. I'm sorry your love for other sports at UND will unfortunately never be as big as UND hockey. I"m sorry if you're a die hard football and/or basketball fan. Those sports will never be as big as hockey on campus or in the Grand Forks community. In addition, the university should cut back on certain sports soon. I'm looking at the baseball program, but hey, I'm not here to cause problems.

  15. The reason it would be easy to do is because they haven't even joined the league yet. And they are 600 miles from the closest school. And they don't have a travel partner.

But, as long as hockey fans get to keep the nickname - lets take the chance!! ITS WORTH IT.

Love the football team, proud supporter and they WILL get into the Big Sky. But let's not forget the hockey team was always a D-1 sport at the University. If you're going to whine about the nickname doing damage to the football team and other sports, there's always the option of going back to D-II. You, please take your sarcasm somewhere else.

  16. You are clearly one of the "Save-Nickname-Instead-of-Athletics" people. Go read the sayanythingblog. You'll find more people like you there.

A supporter yes. A person who is smarter and more educated than you, yes again.

Yeah, the athletic department is screwed. :whistling: Football team won't get into the Big Sky etc... When have you seen a conference league kick out a team? I know the presidents of the schools in the conference league can vote out the Sioux with a majority of the vote... I'm sure that'll be great PR coverage and attention for the league. I'm sure the Big Sky would welcome that with open arms, right?

    So, yeah....

  17. As a member of Bisonville said, you may need to change Sioux Yeah Yeah cheer to "Sioux D-2!" Another suggested possibly making a shirt that says, "Fighting Sioux Big Sky Tour: 2012-2012" This is absolutely ridiculous that there is a soul left who wants them to try and fight to save a nickname that will destroy athletics. I feel bad for the rational fans.

    Hey JohnboyND7,

We didn't ask for your thoughts on the issue or your comments. Please go kick rocks, pal!

In response to the "Sioux D-2" and "Fighting Sioux Big Sky Tour: 2012 -2012" Not original enough. Keep trying... :whistling:

  18. That's perfectly fine, if you don't see MN Mr. hockey winners go to UND. The track record of past winners in the last 10-15 years have been busts. Nick Bjugstad could potentially be the one outlier, still I put him as a risk factor on how much impact he's really going to have in the nex level.

  19. i don't understand why people gave him such a hard time (ya i know people thought he wasn't a big burly defenseman like greene or commodore), he was/is a good hockey player and it would've been nice to see him stick around another year.

A nice kid in all. His ego and "2-year plan" path is the key problem with him at his time at UND. Was he ready to leave after two years? Some would argue no, and some would argue yes. He had quite the decent stats in his first professional year in the AHL, made the all-star game in his first year.

Since his first year in the AHL, he's done hardly anything. Poor kid. Not impassive whatever so ever, even when he has an advantage of being a right handed shot/defenseman in the NHL. The kid is great, first pass puck moving defensemen and that's it. Kid can't shoot or skate by anyone.

    Rant over.

  20. The list of Mr Hockey MN has come out. Am I right that not a sigle one is a UND recruit? When is the last time a Mr Hockey Mn has not gone to the U of M?

Brian Lee was one. We (UND) don't like to claim him as "one" as we usually do with our past players that progress forward to the NHL.

  21. UND's web series "Through These Doors" may have sparked an 'NHL 24/7' trend amongst college hockey.

Michigan and Notre Dame created 24/7-esque videos this season and now Merrimack plans to launch its own series called "Merrimack All Access." Watch the trailer, here.

I think these shows are a great recruiting tool for college hockey and are a nice way to highlight each program's unique history and tradition.

First of all, thank god UND has Matt Schill and many others with "Through The Doors" our production and tv series is second to none. Not trying to be a smartass, but what is Meriimack's one mission?

  22. Your right, $100 a ticket is a lot especially since most here at UMD don't look at UND as a big rival. Now if it was wisky, that would be a different story.

The only thing we like about Duluth, is Mr. Sandelin as he once was ours. Down the road, he may be taking the reins over at UND sooner than you think.

  23. If you don't want to pay what the market bears, sit at home and watch. If you are a season ticket holder, one of these kind of weekends you can paydown a bigger portion of your tickets. Nothings says fair market like what I can get someone to pay for them. Economics 101

Nothings says fair market like what I can get someone to pay for them. Economics 101

    That someone isn't me.
