  1. While my comment was tongue-in-cheek, the above is a ridiculous statement. Level of success like two national titles (Lucia did that), a runner up at NCAAs (Lucia did that), three straight league titles (Lucia did that first), a 67.8 winning percentage (Lucia has that at CC and Minnesota). I'm sure most Minnesota fans would agree that both are outstanding hockey coaches...as well as, we wouldn't trade the Don for any other coach in the country. I'm sure NoDak feels the same way about Blais. Sorry to burst your bubble, but Blais signed the deal after Dienhart and Schemmel hopped on a plane to talk to Lucia. They were on a plane to Denver within two hours of Woog's press conference.
  2. Sorry. I forgot. He's still bitter they picked Lucia over him in 1999. Thanks for the reminder.
  3. That's so true. Then they'd be able to win a national title.
  4. So Blais is now anti-Minnesota because Lucia has two national titles during his tenure with the Gophers, while Blais has none? How is that relevant? Woog didn't get his "ass kicked" by the Sioux. His career record vs. North Dakota proves that. Maybe he's anti-North Dakota because he's a former Gopher All-American. Or maybe because he was the head coach for 13-14 years. Or maybe because he's still employed by the University. Or maybe because he's working Gopher television broadcasts on Fox Sports North. Blais takes shots at Minnesota and its players when he's interviewed...nobody here points out that bias...why?
  5. Woog had a 33-27-6 record against North Dakota during his coaching tenure.
  6. The Gophers stay in a hotel in St. Paul during the Final Five.
  7. Or maybe it's the fact that Duluth is in first place in the WCHA? 2001 was a long time ago.
  8. It's called objectivity....but apparently that means I'm not a "true hockey fan".
  9. Don't you mean "Sioux" hockey fans? UMD lost three games at Engelstad with two of those being by one goal. The 6-3 loss was with Johnson in goal. Duluth is the hottest team in the country playing in their own building (won 11 in a row there) where they destroyed Minnesota just a couple of weeks ago and then went on the road and swept CC, something North Dakota couldn't do at home a couple of weeks ago. Throw in the fact that the last time UND went on the road against a decent team, they got swept. I'd give the slight edge to UMD.
  10. I think the Hobey Baker Award winner, the nation's leading scorer and the best freshman class in the country might have had a hand in it. Not to mention playing at home. Karl Goehring was from where again? 42 saves in the title game? 93.2 save percentage in the Frozen Four? Sixth in the nation in points; averaging 1.3 points per game as compared to 1.4 for Parise. 28 points in league play, same as Parise. For shame. Couldn't you have inserted a 7>5 or Golden Chokers reference? A total lack of originality. Didn't even reference the UMD series last weekend.
  11. A bit sensitive don't ya think? You can honestly say a trip to Grand Forks is like going to Boston or Denver or St. Louis or Detroit or St. Paul? It's an event. When there's no hockey, people want to do something besides playing blackjack in the hotel bar.
  12. Grand Forks hosting the Frozen Four? That's like Boise hosting the Super Bowl. People want to have fun when they go to these events...nightlife, shopping, nice weather, etc. A direct flight would be nice too.
  13. Kinda like cfm567b27's performance on PrideonIce a couple of weeks ago. How about you judge all Gopher fans by this guy (like you probably do anyway) and we'll judge all Sioux fans by the posts of cfm567b27. Fair?
  14. Who cares what PA and Dubay have to say? Sioux fans start threads about them on a near weekly basis. Even Blais said he enjoys listening to them. And by the way, first you want me to sit next to you in your section, then you want to know my "demographics" and now you want to share a bus with me. I'm sorry..but like I said I'm happily married....please stop obsessing.
  15. This isn't anymore important than the Wisconsin series next week or the trip to Duluth in a couple of weeks or closing out the regular season vs. St. Cloud State. Why play this series up as the be-all-end-all when it isn't. I think UND gets a tie or a win tonight and who knows how the teams react on Saturday. That said....it'd be foolish for a Gopher coach or player to add to the hype already surrounding this series. (Plus it's kinda funny to watch everyone here react to them downplaying it...how dare they!!) I'm sorry the Gopher coaches and fans aren't hyperventilating over this series like their UND counterparts. Edit - and what's with PA and Dubay saying Blais is a class act....I thought they only belittled the opposing team's program and fans?
  16. It's Lucia first big game as a collegiate head coach....of course he's tight. He's never experienced pressure like this before. Those first 399 wins, three straight WCHA titles in the mid-90s and back-to-back national titles were a piece of cake. I think they fold and Lucia's out of a job by Sunday morning.
  17. Marty, do you try out your material here before you copy and paste it on PrideonIce?
  18. Looks like skateshattrick doesn't agree with your assessment that it's just the Gopher fans, cfm567b27.
  19. OK, whatever you say. Glen Sonmor has his own thread on this board. PA and Dubay are routinely brought up and of course, there's Doug Woog and Frank Mazzacco references littered throughout...yep, no Sioux fans are talking about the arrogant Twin Cities media. And it's "your" bucket, not "you're" bucket.
  20. Doesn't the arrogance of the Twin Cities media astound you? PA actually told Dean Blais to his face (figure of speech) that he was classy. That guy's got a lot of nerve. As a Gopher fan, I'm appalled at these displays of arrogance by our media.
  21. Stealing a line from ESPN.com today: "If you had no one to root against, you'd have so much less to root for." That biased Gopher media has gotten out of hand this week. Mike Max had Zach on last night. KFAN is having Dean Blais on this morning. Star Tribune had a story on Jordan Parise. Pioneer Press has a Vanek-Parise story today. PA says Zach Parise is the best player in the upper midwest. Dubay predicts a split. Woog predicts a split. Why won't they respect the Sioux and give them some pub?
  22. Didn't you say the exact same thing last January? Oh wait, that was everyone here. The glory years? Why didn't you just say the present?
  23. You seem so comfortable in the past though...how can you focus on the present? Maybe you can pull out the VHS tape from the 2000 title game...or do you have it on laser disc?
