  1. Yikes... ya having lived in IL, we lit off stuff illegally all the time (fireworks are illegal regardless of being in the city or not). Just wondering if the cops are so busy on the 4th that it isn't practical to actively seek out firework lighters
  2. Our launching spot in a rural area fell through... how are the police on the 4th with fireworks in town? Do they enforce the no fireworks within city limits rule? Aaron
  3. Of course! It works out well, UND hockey fan and a OU football fan.
  4. Can't speak for others, but my wife and I are 2 new residents. I'm here for research. She has a job at EERC. Aaron
  5. Sweet. I might have to hit the Minot show. Honestly, AFB free shows are my favorite. Maybe a slightly fewer number of aircraft, but the free pricetag hits the spot. I saw the Thunderbirds for free two years ago at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma. Aaron
  6. I'd be really surprised if the CCD is damaged. This looks just like a dust spec on the image plane itself. There are kits out there to clean off the sensor and get rid of these specks. http://www.luminous-landscape.com/essays/s...-cleaning.shtml http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/tutor...ensorclean.html A quick way to check is to shoot some blank walls at f/4, f/8, f/11 etc. As the f-stop decreases (number gets larger) the specks should become more apparent. They should be unnoticeable at values smaller than f/8 or so. You can aggravate these spots by adjusting the levels or contrast substantially. Aaron (fellow DSLR shooter)
  7. Nice pics... you got a dust spec though =)
  8. I'll trade Paradiso away for a Juanos (sp?)! Aaron
  9. I'm absolutely loving the weather... can't remember the last time we had the furnace on. I love seeing the entire community come outdoors (or so it seems at least). What are the rest of you doing outdoors (I know some are running ) ? This weekend I paddled 9 miles on the Red Lake River. Red Lake River, MN Current on the Red River of the North is still pretty strong, but I can paddle against it for some distance. I have also noticed a couple other kayaks in town so I'm not the only one. I ran into a couple on the river a week or so ago which was nice. Aaron
  10. Actually it has happened plenty... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bath_School_disaster << worse than the VT massacre. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Scho...e_United_States
  11. I think the killer was the two late penalties (duh). Both seemed fair to me, and were avoidable. After the 2nd period, I felt we were extremely fortunate to go into the 3rd period still tied. BC was creating chance after chance... no way we could save em all. Having to PK for the majority of the final 10min was the final straw. We were hanging on, as it was. Considering we still made it close at the end says something for the team... fighting till the end. One edit: Perhaps I'll be proven wrong, but I think we'll see BC dominate MSU. I felt today's game winner would probably go on and win the title. Aaron
  12. We'll go into the Frozen Four having the most goals for and against us in the tourney.
  13. Total in Grand Forks was 11.6in. Guess I learned something in school Farther west there was a narrow region that had up to 20in where a heavy snow band formed (and stayed put).
  14. We already have ~7in or so in GFK. Big question that remains is whether the severe storms to the SE of us will rob our region (and the system giving us snow) of moisture. If it does, then we will probably end up with totals around ~12in. If it doesn't, then we could see well more than that. Aaron
  15. FYI: Latest run of our main medium range forecast model comes out with this solution: Those are the storm total snowfalls for out to 84 hours... so 15in or so. I'd put a safe bet on 10-12in. Heavier amounts will depend on where snow bands setup (hard to predict)
  16. System is divided among two bouts of heavy snowfall... 1 tonight, and another round later tomorrow into Friday. In other words, I have a hard time believing they will cancel school. It isn't like we are getting a foot+ over night so I would think the plows should be able to stay ahead of it. Just my forecaster 2 cents considering I have a couple degrees in meteorology Aaron
  17. I didn't think the Dodge/Chrysler/Toyota Lithia was 5 star to start with (before becoming Lithia). I had a small oil leak that I got fixed under warranty. They didn't give me any crap about supplying me with a rental vehicle so that was good. I had to wait a few days for the part but considering it is a pretty new vehicle I wasn't surprised. If the car isn't under warranty I recommend Olson's Auto (who was suggested to me by some coworkers). I took the wife's car there for a new intake manifold after I blew it up and they were extremely friendly and reasonable. Aaron
  18. Well -31F is my record cold temp experienced (previously -24 in Rockford, IL). I spent a few hours today installing battery warmers on both vehicles. You know it's cold when you have 2 spots in your house where ice is growing inside (only in the corner of rooms bordering the outside near the baseboards). That's a house built in the 1800s for ya... I doubt the plaster walls have much insulation. Aaron
  19. Thanks for the heads up! I probably won't make that event (it's on my bday), but it sounds like they have one every month so I may have to catch one later in the spring. I wonder if the folks at the Hyslop would mind if I showed up with my boat Aaron
  20. Overall, the website looks OK. I was unable to get the banner to load in firefox. Once I viewed it in IE, it was a bit large for my taste. I tend to like "cleaner" sites. The ESPNU ticker on the right is also annoying. Aaron
  21. 90.7 Prairie Public (NPR). They play a good mix of jazz, world music, and indie. When I'm rolling through Fargo I listen to NDSU's station. Once again, pretty good indie. http://www.prairiepublic.org/ Aaron
  22. Ugh... assuming the alcohol found at the scene was involved and being ejected means not wearing a seatbelt, what do we have to do to eliminate such preventable deaths? Do they have active education in the schools up here? I recall being shown a video in HS where they showed graphic video/pictures of people that were killed/injured in crashes due to drunk driving or not wearing seat belts. I can't speak for the others, but that made a pretty big impression on me. Aaron
  23. What a weekend! Hard to believe this is the same team that we saw get s**** at home a few times before the new year! I'd rather peak late season, than early season though. Aaron
  24. Great win Sioux! Lots of penalties, but hey, whatever works on the enemy's ice!
