  1. After watching your game on thursday, I wonder if some of you still feel the same? I am thinking a 50-0 beatdown of the Sioux would get you all the exposure you are craving.

Good gravy we are still in transition, don't you have your own site to post your swill on?

Does this make anyone else's stomach turn - I hope The Ralph takes a stand on this B as in B, S as in S.

  3. This week's Sports Illustrates rates as #1 pre-game ceremony the Florida State Seminole pre-game ceremony of a student dressed as a native american riding a horse to the center of the football field and throwing a flaming spear into the ground.

    Any thoughts?

  4. The problem is the anti-nickname group has never been primarily native americans it's been the liberal leftys and they will never go away -they have learned the minority can outlast the majority.

I can't imagine how ugly it would get at the mere suggestion of using Spirit lake Sioux. Even with the support of the Spirit Lake Sioux you would have the same group getting the media attention and I think we've seen that tribal governments can change their minds so a few years down the road with a different council we could be looking at the same issue all over again.

My belief might be obvious by my postings and moniker but I see no reason why the spirt and history of the Fighting Sioux can't live on - at least for historical purposes. I do believe that once a new nickname is chosen the upcoming generations of students will move away from the Fighting Sioux but who knows perhaps there always will be a group of students on campus that pick up the baton and preserve the spirit.

  5. It will at least be hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue because once the name is established everyone will need to buy new stuff. Goon posted the NCAA statement about a replacement name in his blog and it appears a little vague. I would guess they are negotiating with the NCAA (oxymoron I know), to have some time for "healing" otherwise any name that comes too soon will be trashed. The reality is a name is needed for revenue purposes you can't copywrite or register "North Dakota".

  6. I was in Devils Lakes for the Fort Totten Days activities and my Sioux Pride shirts were very well received. Many who stopped at the booth said they voted for the nickname others said that the use of the name did not bother them - which to me is like a yes vote. I have also sold Sioux Pride shirts to native americans from more than a dozen states.

  7. While I was in the camp of no nickname, just use North Dakota, there are problems with that. For one thing you can't register the name so you would have no control or exclusivity to it - except of course a new cool logo. Also it appears that NCAA will not allow the no nickname because they must have realized that no new nickname = Fighting Sioux by default.

Just like the Brooklyn Dodgers and the Minneapolis Lakers there is no reason why the Fighting Sioux name can't continue to be worn and preserved, but of course NCAA took care of scrubbing the logo from sight for good because they also said UND could not sell the rights to the logo to any other entity ...

I am hoping The RALPH can get some kind of historic preservation deal going perhaps through the state so the logo can remain a permanent part of the community. I did read that some on the UND Logo committee feel just the opposite they want the logo gone forever, so we can "move on".

  8. I'm taking the Sioux Pride Van to Devils Lake for Fort Totten Days and got permission from the Cenex Store on Highway 2 to set up the van and sell Sioux Pride shirts. If you're in the area stop in, I'm guessing I won't have to deal with picket signs or anyone telling me my shirts are hostile and abusive, in fact last time I attended a Pow Wow and had a booth I did quite well. 9. There is a "can't" it has been reported that the NCAA has said as part of the agreement that UND must replace the nickname and that they can't sell the logo or the nickname to another entity. Thus the Ralph can't buy it and UND can't just go with North Dakota. I'd be happy if this was an urban legend but it makes sense.

  10. The SCSU administration has a long history of not listening or even communicating with its fans - the elimination of homecoming is one example. The new administration has totally dropped the Sioux nickname issue it was obviously an issue that the former president Saigo brought to the school and when he left it left - oh but one thing he did leave behind was massive debt and disorganization. It appears his time could have been better spend running SCSU rather than bashing the Sioux nickname - you can't make it up that while he was running around the country speaking on panels that were protesting native american nicknames they were finding swatstikas on his campus.

  11. SCSU a school that elects a guy as homecoming queen, then eliminates homecoming all together, has discussed dropping football, is laying off professors and cutting their budget to the bone, in the discussion of wanting to be in conferences with universities of similar stature, not sure they deserve an invitation.

  12. The politically correct have won the battle, the sick feeling in my stomach is knowing that scrubbing the name from the school is just the beginning of politically correct madness taking over. I will continue to support the school, support the teams, buy my tickets, make my donation. But I will never wear any colors or any name that is not Fighting Sioux or Fighting Sioux colors.

  13. I'm on board with the belief that the game is part of the total experience and support. I just sent in my season ticket payment. My drive is 4 hours one way, sometimes I sleep in the back of my van if the game is a night game but the Budget Inn Express near the Ralph is about $50 a night - nothing I would have my wife sleep in but for just me it's fine. They are friendly folks there but the walls are a little thin.

  14. Its been a long time since UND left the rivalry......

Sigh ... revising history must be so rewarding

    1. NDSU chose to leave the NCC

    2. NDSU chose to leave DII

    3. NDSU had lost 10 of the last 11 football games to UND

    4. NDSU was all about maintaining the football game once they had dozens more scholarships than UND and were recruiting at the DI transition level

    5. UND was still eligible for making DII playoffs and hosting playoff games - playing outside DII had been proven to hurt a team's DII playoff and hosting opportunities.

  15. Are we speaking Chinese here? You are irrelevent to us, we have moooved on. You have your own Bisonswille board to post on including a smack thread that reflects your integrity and your fixation. Your disfunctional insecure immature fans already ruin every attempt at an intelligent discussion on the newspaper comment boards. Please go to the boards of your new-found rivals and make enemies there. We are in a different conference, one that now is not good enough for you, we never win a recruiting competition with you, the newspapers hate your team, they love our team, your players never do anything wrong, you do everything right, we do everything wrong, you had the best president in the country until we drove him off, we are a one sport school, you are smarter than us, have I fed your dillusional minds enough or is there more to be said to feed your inferiority complex?

  16. Didn't I read somewhere that season ticket holders for the upcoming season will be able to purchase their season tickets for the 2012 season at the same price? All the more reason for those who fell off the wagon to get back on board next year.

Sorry but I have to agree that a game every other year is plenty for me against NDSU, I don't think Iowa/Iowa State play each other every year in football so when they do it becomes even bigger. However I say the nickle trophy gets retired and either stays at UND or goes to the State Museum with the Sioux side facing out ;) and the overall record between the two teams posted prominently nearby.

  17. Thanks for caring. The NCAA has no reason to "up the ante" and wishing won't make it so. We know what the consequences were originally set up to be - no hosting and no logo on play off jerseys. It could change for the better but no reason they would change them for the worse when that is part of their original agreement. Sorry to disappoint you.

As has been stated many times, hosting is a pipe dream in basketball and hockey, could happen in football but if given a choice between a name that has been a part of the school's history for 60+ years or someday hosting a football playoff game - I know what choice I would make. Keep in mind some schools have to wait 20 years between hosting a home football game.

And again you can wish that it will impact recruiting, but the truth to the type of student athletes that UND recruits a scholarship is a scholarship, especially if the school has the major you are looking for - highly doubt that not being able to host a playoff football game will stop many true student athletes from coming especially with the BIG SKY on the horizon. Again wishing won't make it so.

But thanks for caring and stopping by.

  18. I was there. Nice idea to create interest in football in the spring. The weather and the newness of the event probably contributed to the turnout, which I thought wasn't that bad. The participation by businesses and individual groups in the tailgating booths was very good I thought for a first time event I had more ribs, burgers and other stuff than I could handle, great quality and lot of fun. Again a little cool in temperature and the 8 inches of snow made it seem strange. But definitely something I hope they build on.

It was n ice to be able to walk into the heated Alerus for the game, but if the weather were better the stadium would be a nice flash from the past, however, much less space for tailgating and I'm sure the Alerus didn't mind having the event.

The game was enjoyable, not a game atmosphere but it was fun to see the team having fun. It was worth the drive (4 hours).

  19. I think I Googled "St. Paul Parking Ramps" or similar and came across a great map that shows every parking ramp around the Excel there are plenty of them. Also on weekends and after 5:00 you can park on the street for free. Does help you on Thursday but it could save you some dough on Saturday - okay I'm not overconfident just sharing my belief in the team.

  20. Really, I mean REALLLY!!! Anyone who comes to the chat room of another school with that kind of message is either incredibly immature, ignorant, stupid or just looking to stir the waters so they can go back to bisonswill and say "Geez the posters at Siouxsports are really terds all I did was ask some simple questions."

I think the statistics that have been shared speak for themselves. UND owns the overall record vs SU (or similar to your post "The school down south") We owned SU in the last decade we played each other in football. SU had the glory years before the rest of the DII caught up in scholarships then they bolted when that became obvious. Then when they had almost double the scholarships they wanted UND to continue to play them, which didn't make sense for anyone but "The school down south". Now the ignoramous on their website refuse to move on and continue to feed their egos by posting negative comments about UND, even so far as needing to have a permanent Smack thread to hold their spite, anger and envy. UND will do just fine in the BIG SKY, we're glad you're concerned but as history has shown UND is committed to putting a quality team on the field in all sports and once the transition is over will be right on track to continue to do so. Enjoy the Summit you deserve it.
