  1. We agree on more than you think.....

Be careful throwing around that term "Mid-Major", it could upset those that really believe that we will be playing in Div 1......?

But then again, I guess when we complete this transition, we will be competing for recruits, wins, and National titles with the likes of UCLA, Duke, Stanford, Kentucky, North Carolina .....

  2. Overall, it is a decent first year schedule. Not much for home games obviously, but there is still USD which will be alot of fun, and the other two transitionals (SIU-E and Seattle) have been solid DII programs for years. Not nearly as good as the women's schedule, but there's alot more involved on the men's side I suppose. I give credit to the staff for doing most of this without an A.D.

Nice away schedule. 2 MVC teams and a Big 12 school. Nice to hear that UNI is coming next season, rather than have us travel twice before getting the return game. I would think that Green Bay and Northern Colorado are amongst the teams returning games next year.

Walrus, I know you were pretty much against the move to DI, and a big basketball supporter but come on. UND has played Crookston every single year since 1999, and 3 of those games were at their gym. On top of that, UND hasn't played less than 2 NAIA teams a year (4 last year) in the same time frame, travelling to play them on a couple of occaisons. After this season, we can only have 4 non-DI games a year. I'm guessing we will almost always play 2 NAIA's probably from the DAC each year, and probably 2 DII's each year. I would think, and actually hope, that one of our non-DI games each year will be either Mary or Crookston.

Check NDSU's schedule and see who they are playing...? What 5 years into transition, and still playing some of these same schools and always will, it's called economics...

I was and still very skeptical on the D1 move.....

We will never get the schools from the Big 10 / Big 12 these big time schools (within our region) will never travel and play UND......UND will be for the next 10-15 years, roadwarriors and sacrafical lambs in some cases.....

And we will still be playing a couple of local lower level Colleges ever year to fill a schedule......I'm sorry but when we get a big game at home like Texas-panhandle State Tech it will be hard to get excited. Our biggest games will big the old NCC match-ups with NDSU, SDSU, USD,UNC ect.....and they will be doing the same thing.

So what did we really accomplish, besides spending more money....?

  3. Considering Ben Jacobson is a UND grad and is from the area, I would think the chances are pretty good UNI will be coming to GF within the next few years. I know there was some resentment in certain circles when he left UND, but I would hope that's all water under the bridge now.

It's a two for one deal UNI will be here next year....

But I can't wait to play Valley City, Mayville and Minot at Home..... Crookston should be a sell out too...

  4. I think that this is extremly selfish of this Coach to leave her team just a few weeks before the season starts. If her heart wasn't in it as evident by the schedule she put together she should have left months ago, so that new blood could have been brought in and put their own summer program together and maybe even beefed up the schedule. She should pay a price for this if she ever thinks about getting back into coaching.

I agree, I also believe she was very disingenuous about how she handled the resignation so late, so UND had no other choice but to appoint her sister as interm Coach....

    Very Unprofessional (imo)

  5. Hopefully the program can move forward, there still must be some communications problems within the department for nobody to know a Head Coach is leaving 2 weeks before the season starts.....?

We need a Division 1 caliber Head Coach, this season may be a loss, but for the future.....

  6. Thanks Walrus. Are you going to be at the GFCC on Monday to welcome us back? Looking forward to my trip up to GF, always enjoy the CC. There were a hand full of Sioux fans out there last year, not many but a few, good time had by all.

yes, talked with Pat Simmers today, expecting 125 golfers, hopefully no rain, last year almost ran out of beer....?

  7. Ok....here we go...

Back when I grew up in Denver, I had a part-time gig as a ring 2nd for the AWA, we used to walk guys to the ring, and take back their robes, feathers, flags ect...

Then at the end of the matches we would usher them back to the locker room....Sometimes getting pelted with batteries and beer.....lol

Got to see 1st hand however some of the Greats, Dr. X, Butcher and Mad Dog Vachon, Dino Bravo, Sgt Slaughter, Adrain Adonis, Jesse the Body, Greg and Verne Gagne, Nick Bockwinkle, Big John Stud, Andre the Giant, Hulk Hogan, Nick Bockwinkle, Larry the Ax and Curt Henning, Rick Martel, Jimmy Superfly Snuka, Rick Flair.....

    Great Memories....

Andre the Giant was the best, when he was in the locker rooms and drinking cokes and playing cards.....In his hands a regular Coke can looked like a 5oz juice can and he had trouble holding on to regular size playing cards, because they were too small.....lol

  8. I'm surprised those two knew that I-29 extended north beyond Fargo.

    Why always so negative....?

Last year we had 125 Golfers at the Bison Open Scramble at the Grand Forks Country Club.....They are genuine guys, both Gene and Craig

  9. Name a DI all-sport conference that doesn't have an auto-bid to march madness, ncaa baseball, volleyball, etc, etc, etc. That's right, there isn't one. Only the GWC, if you call it a conference.

Duping your the fans with "conference" talk . . . yes, I have a problem with that.

Would this be similar to say.....

    buying fake championship rings.....?

  10. UND reportedly has a press conference scheduled for tomorrow, apparently to announce its inclusion in an all-sports Great West (as reported on the 5:30 KXJB sports).

I'm really trying to understand our communication and leadership at UND......The Grand Forks Sioux-Per Swing will start tomorrow at 11am with lunch and tee off at 12:30 pm....The Sponsors, Supporters and Boosters are expecting that our Coaches and Athletic Adminstration will attend and particapate......?

This Press Conference (scheduled for 2pm at the Betty) could not have been scheduled for another day or a earlier time 9 am....?

I guess that is why I never went to College, there was not a class on common sense.....

  11. I'm thinking that the area of volleyball scheduling is a place where having an athletic director for the past 7-8 months would have been helpful. Or a head coach that had some sort of DI connections, but that is for an entirely different discussion. Here are a handful of this year's opponents:

    vs. Bemidji St.

    vs. UM-Crookston

    @ Jamestown College

    vs. Mayville

    @ Carleton College

    @ Valley City St.

    @ Dickinson St.

    vs. South Dakota

    @ Dakota Weslyan

    vs. Dickinson St.

    vs. Valley City St.

    @ South Dakota

I fully expected to see many DAC and NSIC teams on the schedule, but what's with all of the away games against the NAIA's? If you ask me, there is no reason why it shouldn't look more like the Soccer schedule, with the DII's at home and some decent DI's on the road.

It does not look like a AD was needed to schedule 22 D1 Games for womens basketball, I think it is time for a change in the womens volleyball leadership.

  12. I think either Darcy (Deutsch) Cascaes or Tonia Jones would be good candidates if either were interested in getting back to the area. Darcy is currently at Minneapolis DeLaSalle, and I believe Tonia is currently at St. Thomas, although not in the athletic department to the best of my knowledge.

Neither interested anymore, were once a couple of years ago have now moved on to better things...

  13. Any potential candidates with UND-ties out there? This is a position that probably needs to have a built-in understanding of UND alumni and UND tradition, so that Faisson gets quality counsel.

Why now.....?, Lets hire someone from South Africa....

  14. Do you know who the compliance director is? Not a chance they would be willing to go out of their way to help out the football program. They've got their plate full anyways. Their lame-duck status as "Senior Women's Administrator" and "Co-acting AD" have them very busy right now. :D Have they officially left yet?

I'm not saying Chappell's ineligibility is their fault. Ryan did this to himself. But if you were looking for any help to make some things happen, then you shouldn't have been looking in the direction of our compliance director.

I think I just saw a bus run over Betty..... :D

Sad part is that the Staff tried to help Ryan all they could on this one, Vince is right it falls on his shoulders.

What is the saying...."You can lead a horse to water, but you can not make him drink"

I hope Ryan gets it going, it would be great to have him back in 09.

  15. What is an Athletic Director's job? No, I'm serious. What are the job responsibilities? This is in the link previously provided (emphasis added):

I'm reading a lot of words about positive relationships and fundsraising here on the board but that seems to rank behind administrative and NCAA-type (conference, schedule) activities in that posting. What should I infer from that?

click on and listen to the quailifcations of Oregon's AD.....he does not even have a college degree....?

click on the Phil Knight story and Oregon Pat Kilkenney.....great story....on the right video box
