  1. Nash committed to Cornell because of family reasons, I don't think you will see him change his mind, but I've been wrong before.
  2. I'm not sure if we've recruited this kid, but he's slowly rising and could still go the college route. He's listed as an 08, but he is an August of 90 birthday which means he's younger than Kristo and Fink. He's received interest from Michigan State and had a hell of a year in the BCHL for a kid that is only 16, here is the link. http://bchl.bc.ca/leagues/rosters_profile....playerID=238612
  3. Drew Fisher from Sioux Falls of the USHL commited to Minnesota yesterday. I don't think we recruited him much but this is the second time this summer Lucia has brought in a 20 year old player. This could imply that Okposo is surely out the door.
  4. The Exiled One mentioned him earlier and was being talked over on GPL, but one kid to maybe watch out for is Corey Fienhage who is a d-men from Eastview. I haven't seen him play yet and he should be up here this fall for the hs elite league but he's been a little bit under the radar up until this point and has impressed people at the Select 17s.
  5. Hey I had to make up for posting a negative thread, so I figured I would put the videos on there Malone was last ranked by NHL Central Scouting to go in the second round, which is where he originally started before he went down in the mid-term rankings. I've seen Malone play and have been on here before talking about his talent and he definetly deserves to be in the second or third round. Although I haven't seen him play, the biggest surprise was Frattin who was not ranked at mid-term and went all the way up to the fourth round, must have gotten a little more recognition after committing here . Blood has pretty much stayed put in the rankings and in terms of watching him play that's about where I think he will go. I also haven't seen Eidsness play and since he is a goalie it's hard to tell if and where he will be drafted since he is a goalie. It's hard to tell with Gregoire, in seeing him play his potential (although they are different style fowards) is right up there with Malone. Since he was out for a while during the USHL season, his draft ranking went down to the fifth round but if he can show his talent fully healthy he may get some better look and move up a ways where he belongs. Another player that was ranked at mid-term but was not ranked in the final rankings was Bruneteau, which I don't see why because in watching him play I think he has a good amount of potential and statistically didn't have that bad of a season. So we'll see if he sneeks in as a draft pick and if he does I assume it would be 6-7th round.
  6. Lets please keep this forum at recruiting, talk about next years roster somewhere else. I figured this would be the best forum to post this, but here are some videos of some of the NHL draft picks including Turris. Turris http://video.tinypic.com/fullsize_video.ph...&height=530 James Van Riemsdyk http://video.tinypic.com/fullsize_video.ph...&height=530 Angelo Esposito http://video.tinypic.com/fullsize_video.ph...&height=530 Sam Gagner http://video.tinypic.com/fullsize_video.ph...&height=530 Patrick Kane http://video.tinypic.com/fullsize_video.ph...&height=530 Karl Alzner http://video.tinypic.com/fullsize_video.ph...&height=530 Keaton Ellerby http://video.tinypic.com/fullsize_video.ph...&height=530 Jonathon Blum http://video.tinypic.com/fullsize_video.ph...&height=530
  7. 8. They don't (and other teams coaches) recruit kids that have verballed somewhere else. Although the offer may still be on the table, as in this case or they'd still love to have Riley Nash, they aren't going to actively recruit the player to change his mind. With the comments made by Donald, remember that being a UAA fan can create animosity towards every other school. It's hard to consistintly lose good recruits and therefore games to every other team in the conference. Remember the standpoint he is coming from
  9. It must have been all Toews and Oshie. After all, Duncan wasn't playing well in the begining of the year when they were out of the lineup
  10. Brad beat me to it, but Mike Cichy was taken in the first round of the USHL entry draft by Tri-City. Remember that this is important because he will have a decision between the USHL (meaning he will still play here) or the QMJHL. So far, none of our other verbals have been taken, you can follow the draft results on http://www.ushldraft.com/.
  11. I'll give you a hint, Mark Jeffries was from Hopkins
  12. There are better fowards out still out there for 2008 (ie Toews and Lee). If they still need to fill a foward spot, Kristo is a June of 90 birthday and could come in 08 if they needed him. Besides Toews, Lee, and if they're are interested in Zajac, I think the recruiting class is pretty much done for 08. With the running for Mattson, Fink, and Buddish, ect. 09 is the big recruiting battle right now.
  13. Here is a list of the Minnesota players invited to the USA Hockey Select 17 Festival in St. Cloud on July 7-13. One of our commitments, Joe Gleason is on the list with some other prospective recruits. Besides Gleason, the only other commitment that could be invited would be Cichy. Forwards Tyler Barnes Burnsville Ryan Bohrer Cretin Marshall Everson Edina Mike Fink Hopkins Keegan Flaherty Duluth East Luke Greiner Shattuck Ben Hanowski Little Falls Tyler Landman Roseau Matt Leer Edina Zach Lehrke Park Rapids Danny Mattson Holy Angels Jordy Murray Shattuck John O
  14. Fink is from Hopkins and Mattson is from Chaska. Fink attended the NTDP tryout camp in March but I'm not sure if he's going to play for them or not. Mattson will be playing for the NTDP. Fink would be a 2009 recruit and Mattson a 2010. I believe Fink made a recruiting visit here and there are four schools in the WCHA (including us) that are interested in Mattson.
  15. Gleason and some other WCHA recruits and some WCHA prospective recruits will be competing for Team Minnesota in the Minnesota vs. Michigan prospects tournament next weekend in Detroit. Here are the rosters http://www.teamminnesota.org/Hockey.nsf/Ge...33;opendocument
  16. If anyone wants to watch these, here are some videos of a few college prospects including Turris. http://www.isshockey.com/videoarchive.asp
  17. Duncan had six contract offers the day after he won the Hobey. Besides Toews he had more stock than anyone on the team in terms of signing. His stock now only goes downhill because he (assuming) won't win the Hobey again. In terms of players leaving it can draw more interest if you're a free agent. In terms of Finley, he probably had the least amount of stock amongst the four so far that are staying. He would make an AHL team though, you have to look at how good of a league he is playing in compared to the ECHL and UHL.
  18. Bruneteau should be eligible since he was born in Jan. 89, he's even older than Malone. It's good to see Frattin all the way up to the 4th round.
  19. From what I've heard it's pretty much a done deal, it just hasn't been officially announced yet.
  20. Great comparisons. Moreland is a 21 year old playing in a secondary league to the USHL. Fisher is 20 and Lamaroux is 19. The point is is they are all older than Malone and have more experience playing juniors. If either of the three were just as good if not better, than why didn't we recruit them? All three would've came here if they had the opportunity. I also think the NHL would beg to differ on talent, since none of them were drafted and Malone will be.
  21. I've previously stated before that junior stats are not always a determinate into how much potentential/talent a player has. With Bruneteau, he was out for a few games this year whereas some of the guys ahead of him played in more games. Also, the guys ahead of him are older in which Bruneteau was the top 89 scorer on his team. Bruneteau and Malone are still some of the best 89 birthdates in the league. Malone was also out for a few games this year. This doesn't factor in the line they were playing or however long it took for them to get back from an injury. If the coaches didn't feel they had the ability, they wouldn't have recruited either of them.
  22. So have you seen Malone play? I'm assuming not, all you do is go look at his stats on ushl.com and then you evaluate his skill level. Your assesment is wrong on both Kozek and Miller. Remember that Kozek is only a sophmore and played on a checking line this year, his skill level is enough to be maybe be hmmm (a second round draft choice). Miller, same thing, let him develop more and don't jump to conclusions because he is only a sophmore. Also, you list Lee and Finley as hopeful departures. I'm sure you were saying the same thing about Smaby after his freshmen year. Once again, sophmores who need a few years to develop into top players. What is the biggest reason that we have lost in the semifinal the last two years? YOUNG D-MEN. You put another year on Lee, Finley and everyone else on the d-corps and they become solid college d-men, leading us to a national title. Remember, the majority of college hockey players are still three/four year players. Not everyone is Toews, Parise, and Zajac and comes in and plays his best right away.
  23. More recruiting stuff, Mike Fink (one of the best 91's and 09 prospects from Hopkins) is apparently on a WCHA campus this weekend other than Minnesota. I don't know if it is UND, but this would be huge pickup for 09. He tried out for the NTDP back in March.
  24. If anyone is in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, and wants to watch some spring hockeyand one of our recruits (Joe Gleason), the Select 16 and 17 spring fesitals are in Plymouth. I believe they narrow the roster down to 50 and then 20 by the national festival in July. Iceburg on GPL posted the rosters so I figured I would post them here. There are a decent amount of players on here that are being recruited by WCHA schools and some have already committed. 1A/1AA G Kraig Ewing (Rochester Century) G Taylor Sturlaugson (Lakeville North) D Kyle Kozelka (Owatonna) D Mac Williams (Shattuck U-16) from Minnetrista D Mitch Anderson (Rochester Mayo) D Brandon Binder (Lakeville South) D Beau Burgau (New Ulm) D/F Ryan Kalan (Owatonna) D/F Grant Paulson (Owatonna) 2A/3AA G Jack Hanna (Centennial) G Joe Phillippi (Hill-Murray) G Trevor Tracey (Duluth Central) D Charles Skarman (Duluth Denfeld) D Brent Putney (White Bear Lake) D Trent Johnson (Duluth Denfeld) D T.J.
