based on the SWOT analyses that is the direction Idaho is going.  Some members in Big Sky are not happy.  With the new Commish from the B1G it appears this is fast moving as NM St. will soon become a member.  The new BigSky/WAC would rival the MWC quickly.

What happens to all those basketball schools currently in the WAC?  It would be extremely difficult to make it workable.

(Pure speculation by me) But the WAC maintained a pulse. Conferences that don't do that probably can't (see: now defunct Southwest Conference).

How about conferences that still exist, such as the Missouri Valley?  It sponsored football at the highest level for most of its existence.

Maya can't break even for Minot State varsity if it stays under 2000 capacity.  All Seasons has like 3900 seats and it's possible that Minot State can break even there.

Maya is a cheap place for the club team so it make sense that the club team plays there.

From what I understand the break with the All Seasons Arena happened over concession sales.  As stupid as that sounds, it's typical small-minded Minot politics.

Weren't the WDA HS regionals there?

Nope. At the Maysa. I'm not a 'hockey guy' so hardcore fans probably don't mind watching games at the Maysa, but the current arena is not a great place to watch games.  It's basically a set a of metal bleachers running along the boards on one side. I don't know if there's a seat in the place where you have a decent view of the entire ice. I've been told the new sheet will be more of a true arena with better sight lines, but we'll see.

The is an article on www.sbncollegehockey.com on how Simon Fraser and Minot State are investigating DI and the WCHA.  Minot State would have the option to play in the All Seasons Arena at the fairgrounds.  SBC doesn't realize that there is an alternative to Maysa, where the Minot State club rink which seats under 2000.  All Seasons seat nearly 4000.

There hasn't been a hockey game played at the All Seasons in years.  Maysa's getting a new sheet of ice that will be used as the main arena.  Tauros, Minot State, and Minot High will all use that sheet for games.

Someone else said 14 is the minimum earlier. By my count ndsu has 16, USD has 17, SDSU has 21, Montana has 15, MSU has 15, and UND has 21 but will have 19.

Counting indoor and outdoor track and field as two separate sports, the minimum is 16.  NDSU is currently at the minimum, and thus can't cut any sports.  Not sure about the other schools mentioned.

Economic impact for Valley City and Mayville......

This is the correct answer, and why these schools will never be closed. We could have a pretty good higher education system by closing two of the normal schools and probably one or two of the two-year colleges.

ndsu used to be the ndac...you went there to learn farming.

The second part of this is not true.  They did have winter short courses farmers could attend in the very early years of the 20th century, but the primary purpose of land grant universities was not to train farmers.

How much money would saved if the state of North Dakota went back to this?

    2 year colleges

Dickinson State, Mayville State, Minot State, Valley City State, Bismarck State , Lake Region State,  Wahpeton State, Williston State, North Dakota State School of Forestry, and the North Dakota Agricultural College

    4 year universities

    University of North Dakota

I would love for you to educate me about the good old days when NDAC was a two year university.

For the record, a lot of Bison fans have come to feel the exact same way about bisonville that you do. There are about 20 people who all know each other in the "real world" who have dominated that board for the last 5 years and any opinion outside of their little circle jerk is mocked and ridiculed. That board is full of tired old jokes and "overconfident" insecure people. I only visit that site to keep up on recruiting.

I just want to second this.  It's very "junior-highish" over there at times, with their little cliques.

Any sport will be expensive if you do that stuff.

I'll ask my dad about the costs that went with wrestling on a yearly average.  The guy in your example seems to be somewhere very very different than North Dakota...monthly dues?  Traveling all over the country?  Good Lord.

Kind of what I was thinking.  My son's doing club wrestling.  He's practiced three nights a week and wrestled in 3 tournaments over the last month.  Total cost so far is $39 for registration fees combined.  No overnight stays and I've probably spent about $100 total in gas and food.  No dues and i get the $50 deposit back for the singlet.

In related news, someone actually might actually sing the 'su fight song beyond the first few lyrics ...

"On Bison" is the school's fight song, not "The Yellow and the Green".  And for what it's worth, i don't even know the first few lyrics of the latter, much less the third verse.

I believe Dorn, Ruley, and Taylor all came from outer space with the idea of taking over the world and when that didn't work they turned their energy toward taking over NDSU. There, how's that for more conspiracy theory?  HAHAHA

Sadly, this is more plausible than Sic's interpretation of events.

  14. 26 minutes ago, The Sicatoka said:

Ms. Ruley lost the WBB coaching role to a fundraising role outside of Athletics. Ms. Dorn was suspended and then allowed to resign (see UNDBIZ post).

I'm not sure how that is retaining power and status.

Ruley resigned from her coaching duties of her own accord.  Both of these women left NDSU AFTER Taylor left.  So maybe Taylor was fostering a great environment for women in the workplace.  He'll probably engineer something similar at Iowa to turn that mess around.

  15. 1 hour ago, UNDBIZ said:

Lynn Dorn deserved to be fired due to her sexual harassment of co-workers and student athletes.  Ndsu suspended her and allowed her to quietly resign, so there's no apparent mistreatment of her there.  As for the general treatment of women's sports by Taylor and ndsu, where there's smoke there's fire.

The first part of this is true.  She was not a good administrator.  If anything, being a woman is the only thing that kept her employed as long as she was.

  16. 1 hour ago, The Sicatoka said:

Truth is, I can't find Amy or Lynn on here: http://www.gobison.com/staff.aspx?tab=staffdirectory

That's awesome.  You've failed to address your previous statements.  You've been caught in a lie and you know it.  In the Iowa case, the field hockey coach was fired and the womens' AD reassigned BEFORE Gene Taylor got there.  In Lynn Dorn's case, she retired AFTER Gene Taylor left.  And Ruley worked with Taylor as an employee of NDSU for at least 8 years before she left voluntarily.  Yes, quite the history of misogyny there.

  17. 14 minutes ago, The Sicatoka said:

Where Taylor goes, high ranking women in athletics disappear. Happened at NDSU; happened at Iowa. It may be purely coincidental. Is Taylor cause or effect? We don't know. But it is surely coincidental.

    Liar.

  18. 13 minutes ago, UNDBIZ said:

Looking at the number of scholarships available to women at ndsu, I'd characterize him as a misogynist before I called him a homophobe.....

Although I disagree with that statement, at least you're man enough to come out and say it unlike Sic, who thinks he looks intelligent by speaking in platitudes.

  19. 3 hours ago, The Sicatoka said:

Given what I know and what's reported at Iowa, the patterns seem rather coincidental. Beyond that, I make no claims to know others' personal beliefs.

So Gene Taylor was hired at NDSU in 2001, hid his homophobic tendencies for six years and then decided to fire Ruley (oh wait, you lied about that; she resigned and got a job in the same athletic department that Gene Taylor oversaw).  And then realizing he hadn't done enough to perpetuate his misogynist attitudes also had Lynn Dorn reassigned (oops, lied about that too, she was womens' AD when Taylor was hired and continued in that role until her retirement).

But probably the greatest feat of all was firing the Iowa women's field hockey coach before he started working there.  That, my friends, is power.

    Yep, quite the coincidence.

Somewhere between Navy and Iowa on Gene Taylor's resume.

I getting tired of reading between the lines on your posts.  So I'm just going to say it.  You think Lynn Dorn and Amy Ruley are lesbians and partners; you also think Gene Taylor is a homphobe, had Amy Ruley fired and Lynn Dorn demoted because of their homosexuality?
