  1. I am suprised no one has mentioned Scandinavians the university go a long ways with this one. You could open a Scandinavian hertiage center on campus. Get namesake approval from various organizations. This would be a great way to honor the first inhabitants on the Red River Valley.

  2. I saw something last night that I don't think I've ever seen at a college basketball game before--some of the players on the Dickinson State bench yelled while UND players were shooting free throws in an attempt to distract them (like you often see student sections do).

    A few other random thoughts:

-second half performance was very good; the last ten minutes or so of the first half was about as bad as it gets.

-making Lehnertz try to guard an Emmanuel Little-type player is not a wise move.

-all 13 UND players played in the first half. :)

-I liked last year's offensive set better than this year's. We have some very athletic players, and this offense almost seems to hamstring them from doing what they do best.

I too noticed that I thought it was very unsportsmen like. (leave it up to the students to yell and be rowdy thats what they are for.)

  3. That's not quite true. As I was just noting over on blogland, a very important concession that came out of this is being able to play in REA without all the logos removed.

Don't misread me as painting this as a nickname victory for UND, because it's not. But IF UND thought the only realistic outcomes were tribal approval or changing the name, getting a three year respite to resolve that and not having to remove all the logos from REA was probably worth a million.

Let us not forget that UND does not own REA; the university really does not have any say what goes on at the Ralph. The people who own stock in Arena Holdings Corp do. So UND needs to talk to REA before they say "sure we will remove some of the logos"

  4. Through your public posts and your private messages to me, you and fs1 have me 100 percent convinced me that you are true "insiders." You obviously had information about Hakstol's contract negotiations that very few people would know, which means that you have a source intimately connected to UND's hockey program.

Does your source know how you are using the information that he provides? Does he know that the two of you are spreading this information around the Internet in public and private messages? Does he know that you're sharing it with at least one known "journalist"?

The answers to these questions not only tell us a great deal about you, but they also tell us a great deal about your source.

I work in Athletics as an intern and eventhough we are on the bottom of the food chain we still have to sign a contract of some sort that basically says any non-public or not yet released information stays in the Athletic department no exceptions. You can imagine the penalities.

  5. this schedule has to be one of the best if only we could get a game with Michigan or Norte Dame to go along with that Michigan State game...but the schedule looks pretty full... can't wait

  6. while I see your point that the Chancellor or the Board should make the decision, based on what I know of Potts from ND, you wouldn't want him to have the sole responsibility of deciding. But that is personal feelings. I didn't noticed that the students weren't represented, but that doesn't really surprise me.

No Student in my opinion would want to be part of an university if they didn't have a say in major decisions like this......I think people forget that the university is supposed to work for the students....The students aren't supposed to work for the university!

  7. Round trip from Fargo to Minot is approximately 540 miles. If you assume a vehicle that gets 25 miles per gallon on the highway you will use about 22 gallons of gas. AT 2 dollars per gallon of gas, you will pay ~ 44 dollars. At 3 dollars you will pay ~ 66 dollars. That is the difference of 22 dollars... that difference wouldnt stop me from going to see a band I like

What would be the cost at $4 gallons?.....and while we are on the math subject if it takes you 4 hours to get from Minot to Fargo and its 270 miles and it takes me 4 1/2 hours how far did I drive? JK I have never been able figure out these problems...By the way Simonson's and others were up 3.249for Ethanol Blend and 3.299 for Regular in GF

  8. Not trying to be offensive here, but some of the stuff I'm reading is borderline ridiculous. It seems these days that UND has money for whatever it wants except when it actually needs that money. So far we've had:

    1. The D-I move, which was going to cost 1 million a year, now costing, what, 9 million a year in five years? Oh, and 60% of that is going to be student fees.* You would think a school that is able to raise enough money to catch up with the Big 10 in endowments in 10 years, would be able to fund a move to low level D-I without raising student fees like that. Hell, SDSU and USD aren't raising fees and they can do it.

    2. Money for the Sioux name Law Suit. Everybody knows theres going to be money for that. Oh wait, all of the money has been spent. Amazing, I mean a school that can raise nearly 50 million a year on top of what they currently are doing should be able to come up with the cash to simply fund a lawsuit, don't you think?

    3. The Facilities Master Plan- Where's that at again? I thought I read it was coming out in March, I mean April. Anybody have a TOA on that thing? Because it sounds like something your administration is dangling in front of peoples eyes to get them excited.

    4. The money for a new outdoor football stadium, and new basketball arena for UND. Shouldn't be a problem to come up with that, right? I mean, whats another... 50-100 million sound right?

Are we getting the idea here? Just on the list above UND will have spent around 3/4 of a BILLION dollars. And this money is in addition to what people are already giving in scholarships, athletic tickets, athletic gifts, facility repairs, lawsuit money, etc. Does it sound realistic that a school of UND's size is going to raise 3/4 of a billion dollars on top of that? Just to put that endowment you are going to raise into perspective, that would mean in 10 years UND will have raised 1/4 of what Minnesota has raised in its entire history. That will be half of Baylors money, IN 10 YEARS. Does that seem to fit into reality for you guys? All of you get calls to give to UND, do you really think the fund raising wing of the school has missed 750 million dollars lately? To put what we're talking about in perspective... if every member of this board gave to UND, they would have to give $235,300 to get the kind of money we're talking about. If every current living alumni of UND was to give money, they would have to donate $12,000 per person.

I'm not trying to be a jerk here, but you really believe that this money is going to be there in 10 years? Or maybe, are they just printing stuff to get you excited, and it will be 25-50 years before this is even close to being finished, if it ever is? It sounds a lot like marketing ploy to me.

*one reason I am not to excited about the move to DI

  9. Well after we beat the NC$$ in court, instead of using 100 dollar bills as TP in the REA, we can buy HD cameras, but we may be able to do both

that and be able show the time remaining durning a PP or the time on the shot/play clock....but doesn't matter much to me i go to all the games but sure makes my grandparents mad that they don't see the time remaining on those items.

  10. I never had very much respect for Lee until last year's frozen 4 meeting with BC. The Sioux were going to lose that game 6-4 but it was Lee that scored to make it 6-5 it was Lee along with the rest of the team that carried on that Sioux tradition of never giving up until the horn sounds. And it made the loss a little easier to swollow.

  11. Are we talking about bikini-style mud-wrestling here, or WWF style ala Miss Elizabeth, Sable, Torrey, etc.? Those are the only two types of women's wrestling right? :silly:

I think HBO or ESPN pay-per-view would have to televise those matches...I can't see Steve Halstrom calling those matches for WDAY...but I certainly would watch...It would be better than watching women's hockey on FSN-North

  12. I had no trouble cheering for MSU. My father and grandfather taught me at a very young age you never cheer for BC or the U of M. Plus BC is going home with nothing and UND is bringing home a well deserved HB. No matter how close they come Hockey Least still can't compete with the WCHA or the CCHA.

  13. When I look closely at the shirts yeah i see the ND logo but they also have our name "Fighting Sioux" on them. Here is some great logic for ya Its like UND is now half hostile and abusive. The name is okay but the logo is just wrong? Or is it that our logo has to many different colors in it and would send the cost of printing the shirts up 50 percent? I just don't get it anymore.
